88 505 STi for sale

I am helping Dennis sell his car.

1988 505 STi V6/Automatic for sale. 44,000 original miles, Burgundy with charcoal leather. ABS, Sunroof, OEM Fog Lights, 8 spoke alloy wheels in very nice condition. Dash is perfect!

Issues:

Clear coat faded on Roof and Hood, typical unfortunately. Trunk lid paint in good condition. Nothing has been done to restore the paint condition, no wax or buffing of any kind at this point. It may come back to life with a good buffing job.

Sunroof has not been used since purchase. It may work, it may not.

Small tear in Drivers side seat bolster. Seen in photo.

Head liner drooping in rear seat area.

Water Pump has developed a leak. Water is pooling in the valley under the intake manifold (when running).

The car has been driven about 4000 miles in the last 18 months. The recent water pump problem has taken it off the road. The car did not overheat. In fact, it has probably lost less than 2 quarts of coolant in total since the leak started. Topped up with anti freeze so there is no worry about freezing.

The Good:

This car drives very nicely. I've ridden in it several times (in town around Wichita) and its quite a nice driving car. Engine fires right away, runs quiet, idles smoothly within 15-20 seconds.

Interior is very, very nice. Seats, carpet, dash, etc are all in very good condition, except for the items noted above.

Trunk panels are in excellent shape. OEM jack and tools. Glove Box Manuals are there as well.

Everything works, save for the Sunroof question noted above and it might!

ABS works perfect.

The mileage! 44,000 original miles! Most likely one of the low mile 505's on the road in the US or Canada today!

It was a Colorado car before coming to Wichita. 2 owners from what we know.

This car needs a proper service: oil, trans, diff, brake fluid plus all filters changed and a new or rebuilt water pump and it will be ready for many miles of service to a new owner.

As noted above, I am helping Dennis sell his car. Please contact me with questions, more photos, arrange a test drive, etc.

Photos can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bryancohnraci...57625962531669/

Note: I could not get good photos of the left side because of where the car was parked. I can get photos if needed for any interested parties, just let me know. It is as clean as the right side.

$1000 obo

Car located in Wichita KS. Shipping can be arranged. Cost to either coast is about $800

Well as far as I know mine are the only two that I see running around town. The shop that I take them to for maintance, theres a peugeot mechanic there btw, love and admire my cars. In fact the owner was telling me not too long ago that his first brand new car when "he made it" was a '84 Black 505 STI five speed with "Taupe" leather. What a great combo. I told him I was Very familiar with that car. My parents bought the same car and then 2 years later traded it for the '86 Turbo I bought 10 years ago and now drive. Every time I go there to drop my car off for maintanence we swap Pug stories :):)

You should posts some pics of your car Horhay

I had been talking to Bryan about the STI, but all that was going down the week before and the week of my bar exam, so I couldn't get my act together in time. I'm glad you got the car, Phil -- someone who will not only take care of it, but appreciate it for what it is. I look forward to hearing more about your progress getting everything sorted out.

And I too would like to see pics of Horhay's car...

Yeah. My uncle had an '89 V6. he lived in New Jersey. And when I would go visit him every year he always let me drive when ever we went out. his was a stick. I always said if I could ever come acrossed a good condition V6 I would snatch it up. Really for I bought this car for and the impeccable condition this car is in and how low the miles on it were, I really couldn't pass this up. Once I get some issues sorted out i.e. transmission slips, water pump being replaced and having all the fluids flushed and drained: radiator, rear end, brakes, fresh synthetic oil, the car will def be one that I plan on driving into la for my weekly commute as you know andre, the 405 traffic can a bit rough for a stick. Not that I don't enjoy driving my turbo. How'd you do in the bar exam btw?

think i did okay, won't get official results until end of may.

yes, LA traffic can be brutal if you have a stick...that's why, when I was looking for a car, i figured i'd be happy with either. if i got a 5-speed, it'd perform a bit better, if i got the automatic, it'd be better as a daily driver. plus, my wife can't drive a stick; once i get my car sorted out, my plan is to let her drive it. i think she'll like it a lot. she likes cars with lots of carrying capacity, and you can't beat a 505 wagon for that; maybe in a year or two, i'll talk her into one...:)

I have a buddy in San Diego who has a fully cherried 87 turbo wagon with the third row seat. That thing UBER comfy. He hasn't been driving it much as he bought a new Audi Q7. I asked him not too long ago what he was going to do with the Peugeot and he said that he's not quite ready to sell it. I told that I'm positive I could help him sell it when he's ready. It's cranberry with gray leather and has a working sunroof. Which finding a wagon with a sunroof is rare, and working at that. I got a sunroof cable in yesterday for the turbo. I'm planning on getting it fixed before the nice sunny weather rolls in for a the rest of year :) can u believe that the sunroof cable on my car has never gone out til latter part of last year?! The car was my parents b4 I bought it 10 years ago and it always worked. Pretty good life for this part if you ask me ESP considering that the part i's made with awful pastic that gets brittle over time with usage and such. One time if I'm ever in la on a sat we should meet up for coffee. la i's practically my other home with work and all my friends I'm there frequently

I just found all the replies on this thread... :) Can't wait to get the update on the V6 Phil, and some before/after pics of course.

As for the wagon - are you positive that the wagon has a factory sunroof? I was quite sure it was never an option, but a number of dealers had aftermarket sunfoofs fitted. So I'd be REAL curious on what that wagon has. I'd also LOVE to get the SW8 interior for my 86' TD wagon. It'd make it the ultimate people hauler...

Comfort wise - I don't know of any other car more comfortable than a 505 wagon on the highway. It just soaks up stuff that you don't even notice how bad it is. The week after I brought home my wagon, I had our Volvo on the same stretch of road and it was INSANE how rough the pavement was and how much of a pounding we took inside. I had NO idea the road was that rough in the 505!

Volvo along with Saab are a very harsh riding vehicle.....

The only comparison to a Peugeot 505 is a Mercedes with the ride quality, but I not to keen on the old 1950 style old spring seats....

The 505 wagon does not the quietest tailgate, and the rear drive is noisy on the interstate @ higher th 60 MPH

Well my V6 does have grey leather. But however, it's burgendy. I am actually going to have it repainted and have a rear spoiler the kind I have on my '86 turbo. I also am going to replace my US spec head lamps with the MUCH nicer sleeker looking euros. B)

I was talking about the one your uncle had the 89, because I may have had that car. I bought it from a kid that got it in jersey. I found out about it from rentshlers in reading pennsylvania. Unfortunately the kid was drunk and ran it into a telephone poll. It was beyond repair, but the 5spd trans and rear live on in my 89 today.
