  1. I should also add that a tip I was given may help the dreaded cracked head syndrome - and that is to simply mount the overflow bottle so it's the highest point in the cooling system... So with all my cars I pull the bottle up as high as it goes and then tighten the clamp... In the future I'd like to find another overflow bottle and mount it to the firewall or something so that it is the highest point. Made sense to me at the time as it should allow the engine to keep "full" of coolant and not have any bubbles or low levels in the engine that could cause a hot spot or something which could aggrivate the issue. Made sense to me at the time - and I've never cracked a head on a car I've owned. Rabin
  2. Hey August, I had an 88' GLX that I parted out and it didn't have ABS brakes - but it looked like all the suspension bits and such were the later versions - it just had the regular 505 booster and master cylinder... I'm betting you could gut it all and revert it back to the old system with no problem... Rabin
  3. It's a bit more involved - Eurotrash did it on his V6, and I'm pretty sure there's a post of his that outlines the process... Need the bumpers, front fenders, and a bunch of mod work for it all to work. It'd be a pretty big job... Rabin
  4. Well - my V70R that weights 3800 lbs has a documented top speed of 152 MPH... (260 HP), and I've topped my 86' 505 Turbo Automatic at an indicated 220 KPH (137 mph with three of us in the car...) So an indicated 147 might not be that far off... (If it was verified by GPS that'd eliminate the speedo error.) With similar power of the V70R in a 505 Turbo - The car would easily be a 150 MPH car... The V6 has the potential - but not likely without getting it to 220+ HP territory since those last few MPH will take big power gains with wind resistance increasing exponentially as speed increases. Rabin
  5. Cool! My old Gary Fisher is from the early 90's and has the first gen Rock Shox on it - has maybe 3" travel with magnesium housings and is ridiculously light as well... First time I took the bike to the locl shop to get upgraded the guy was shocked that they were in excellent working order and immediately tried to buy them... It's got an odd 1 1/4" headstock though so it's tough to get replacements - so I passed on the offer. I can still go into the stores and compare it to modern bikes costing big money and it's still as light as they are and rides pretty well just as nice for what I want... As for the Peugeot Road bikes - if they become available I'll definitely let you know. I'd check the local craigslists and stuff around you though as there have been some guys that have scored killer deals on some rare bikes that way... One guy just posted getting a rare factory racer spec model PSV-10 Peugeot road bike for $50! The PX-10 with the Reynolds 531 tubing though seems to be a reachable "holy grail" bike if one comes up... Apparently every Peugeot enthusiast should have one! Rabin
  6. LOL - no doubt! But if you actually were setting the car up properly - the bits he's made would be able to dial the car in pretty damn nicely... Granted - though - if you were to do it right - you'd be using the threaded adjustible bits on newly built suspension arms and not just cutting and welding into stock ones - but the thought is sincere enough... Rabin
  7. I just did some quick googling to see if there was anything blatant - and the Invision search brought up a lot of issue and complaints on a number of forums... So with my 20 minute research based suggestion would be to go with the Gallery2 - as that just brought up different sites with it - and I've been to sites using Gallery and they seemed fine. Finding the right template is key - but something that allows albums, thumnail previews, and slideshows is pretty much all we need. Ideally with a nice interface to upload images too would be nice - but I'm sure that can be worked out. I was the admin on my car club site - but wasn't involved with the development - just maintenance and I kinda owned the gallery part since I was the club photographer. So I'm not that much help on the selection - but I can help once it's in place... If it helps - the guy that set up our club was able to imbed the gallery into the forum using the same permissions - it was a hack job by his own admission (but it worked awesome before the switch to the Windows host) - so I can get a run down of what he did to get to work if needed... Rabin
  8. That's a neat front suspension on the MTB... Don't think I've seen one like that - does it work well? As for the score - I'm pretty stoked as it sounds like a pretty rare bike in general - and very much so up here. Hope to get it tuned up and looking real nice - and then start some indoor training to get in shape with it on some training rollers... (Found a used set for $100) I may even have a line on some older Peugeot road bikes through a buddy - apparently his father does / did a lot of triatholon stuff from way back and still has his old Peugeot road bikes in the basement... He just upgraded to some fancy new one so I'm hoping one of them is a 70's Peugeot to go with my 76' 504... First things first though - once the hubs are rebuilt and the bike tuned I'm hoping I can get some riding in to get a feel for it. If I enjoy riding it then I'll spend some more $$ on a good seat and some better tires when then need to get replaced... Rabin
  9. The milkshake on the cap is pretty common - the tell tale sign for sure for the N9TE is bubbles in the overflow... Pretty sure when she does crack - you'll get coolant into the exhaust first... I've never had a head crack though - so I'm not positive of the oil getting contaminated. Mine was notorious for the milkshake on the oil cap with our cold weather - so I vented the valve cover into a K&N filter instead of back into the housing and that helped a lot. That, with an oil change and a nice long drive once a week to really warm the engine up to evaporate any moisture that make have collected seemed to do the trick. Rabin
  10. Is there some sort of support beam integrated into it? I know some guys in my club that gutted the support beams in their cars to save weight... Can't even tell from the outside. Good to know though! Rabin
  11. For the record - Gold rims don't work on white 505's at ALL! Would been nicer with white or something... Rabin
  12. We should do a Peugeot meet in Whistler! It's actually close enough to swing for me... Plus I can convince the wife easily as it's gorgeous up there. I was there once during a downhill race and it was awesome - but I was told if you're not running disks you'd be in trouble in a hurry. Hardtails would also take a beating - and after seeing the downhill bikes there - mine old MTB would explode if I tried to downhill with it! Rabin
  13. Just went through the entire thread - the dude "Slater" has some skills... While I'm not a big fan of the style - I still think it's pretty cool and he's definitely done some very trick stuff with the suspension that we've all thought about doing - just for a different application... Still be cool as hell to see it finished - just wish he was on this side of the pond as I'd love to get some of the stuff he fab'd up. Rabin
  14. Hey Rob, I'd make sure that the car was originally in the States so that it can be imported back - if it was always out of country then it'll fall under the 25 year rule to get it into the States... Good luck though as I think it was probably exported... Dude's got nice taste in cars - not sure about the gold till I see it though. Rabin
  15. Cool! Yeah it's pretty funny how there are so many commonalities to Peugeot car ownership! I think it's those common qualities that make for a tight community and making fast friends... I've gotten so many PM's from guys on the bike forum asking about my Peugeots - and then telling me the ones they used to own... One fellow said his father is a French car nut with a Citroen XM and is waiting till 2010 to import a GTA... (Sent him the link to the e-bay one) Oddly enough they're the same guys that are hardcore Peugeot bike nuts... After reading through the forums my next quest is to get a mid 70's PX-10 road bike... I figure they'll be killer sweet to have the 89' Mont Blanc on my 86 Turbo, and have the 70's PX-10 on my 504 when I transport them... On a pleasant note I went to the biggest bike shop in Regina to check out bar wrap and new seats available and took a couple road bikes for a spin on the indoor track... There's maybe a 5 lb different between the high end $3K road bikes I took for a spin and the Peugeot I bought... I understand 5 lb is huge in the bike world - but 19 lb vs 25 lb isn't anything when the price difference is $2940! Can't wait to refurbish the hubs, regrease the bearings and get a nice seat on it. Priced out some training rollers and for $400 they want - I think I'll look at building my own... Rabin
  16. I think the parts guys or the DB was wrong - All the PRV versions share the same water pump - so find one for either the Premier or the Volvo and it'll work dandy. They're a bugger to replace though as the intake has to come off usually to get the hose on the back of it off... I did it once with the intake in place and it was a PITA - did it again with it off on another V6 with the intake off and it was WAY nicer - good time to detail the engine and clean out the "V". Rabin
  17. Hey guys, I was wondering what the chances of getting a gallery in place would be? Something with a whack of space so that we can upload Peugeot specific ads, our own pictures of our cars and that kind of thing... I know Rob's been collecting everything on the internet - so it'd be nice to be able to share cool finds. Or even using an online album somewhere else - but where the mods all have access so we can upload pics to it and the link it to this site... Just bouncing some ideas around as I came across a whack of pics of the ice / dirt racer 505 XN6 STI and some more slalom pics of my 505 Turbo. They used to be on our club site - but we moved servers and lost gallery functionality when it went from Linux to a server 2000 environment. If it's a cost issue - I know a lot of forums offer memberships with perks - and the gallery would be one of them. I know I'd join in a heartbeat - this is an AWESOME source of info, friendships, and sharing ideas... Thanks! Rabin
  18. You should post that link to the Peugeot-L list! I'd love to be in a position to get it - but it needs a LOT of work, plus the transporation here would easily be another $3K... The only option for me is the Toyota frame with the powertrain... If I could chose - I'd want a Toyota Turbo Diesel pick up as the base - then put the 504 wagon body on it. The one I found is the first gen 3L V6 and it doesn't have a very good reputation (No power and a gas pig) - so I'm still waivering... Might be worth it for the chassis and the 4x4 - then do an engine swap later as that's also really popular with the things so kits are easy to come by. I really want it to be a diesel though... Thanks for the link Rob! (Would like the quads off that parts car though...) Rabin
  19. Thanks Brownie! I've also got a pepper grinder, and when I painted my Gary Fisher MTB I put Peugeot decals on it... I also have a number of 1:43, 1:24, and 1:18 die cast cars. Also collected a shaving bag, ball cap, and Peugeot lion teddy bear... The last are gifts received from family that have gone over seas since we don't get anything like that here. I pretty much collect anything Peugeot - just not a lot available in Canada at all. Rabin
  20. Normally getting a bike would be an off topic post - but not when it's a genuine Peugeot road bike! Built March 89' it'd be one of the last model bikes made by Peugeot before they sold the cycle division... more pics here: New road bike I've been wanting to get a road bike for sometime, and I've ALWAYS wanted a proper Peugeot bike, so I killed two birds with one stone. Found it locally on Kijiji, and have been researching it a bit on BikeForum.net and got a ton of info. Sounds like a fairly high line bike with some neat components since it was purchased in europe originally and brought over... Bike needs a little love - but has been used very little. Funniest thing is that I've met a lot of hardcore Peugeot bike guys on that forum - and they all have respect for the car as well... Very cool indeed how some worlds intersect... Now to find some training rollers so I can ride it in the winter to get into shape! Rabin
  21. 90 ft*lbs is probably what you meant to say - and it's a little high. It's more important on alloy wheels, and it's most important that they're all equal - so it's fine to do 90 - just might be a bugger if you ever have to change a flat with the stock little wheel wrench... I usually torque to 75 ft*lbs at first, then about a week later I retorque to make sure. Rabin
  22. Sorry it's been a couple days... I confirmed the thread pitch on the 88 GLX wheel studs are in fact M12 x 1.25mm... Not sure what the dudes at the parts places did - but don't take their word for it and ask to try it on a wheel. Failing that - if they have a M12 x 1.25 bolt it should thread onto the Pug lug nuts fine. Sadly - I can not find my box of lugs to take a picture of the Peugeot steel wheel lugs to show the comparison to the alloy wheel lugs... I'm going back into the garage tomorrow so hopefully they turn up... Rabin
  23. Oh yeah - I guess these aren't the same rules as SSB.. As for the aero kit - it'd be interesting to get a weight for the 89's as I would have thought without the heavy rubber bumpers it'd be lighter... Just a guess though... As for the time attack / solo 1 - I think it's a great goal to shoot for to develop the car, and then once I'm able to take the dive into wheel to wheel I'll do it with F1600 / F2000. I alreadyt have a couple deals to help crew my buddies in exchange for a race weekend in the spare car for free later in the season - pending me getting my race license in May that is... Keep us posted! Rabin
  24. Sorry - was busy the last couple days and forgot about getting you pics of the lugs... I'll also confirm the thread pitch as I have the front end off an 88' GLX in my garage I can check out... Rabin
  25. A "performance" air filter won't do much at all if you're running the foam OEM style filter and it's clean - they're damn good for air flow. I'd look at modifying the airbox snorkel though so that it's sucking up nice cool air from the front with some decent diameter hose. (2.5" - 3") As for getting a bit more jam - if you did some better exhaust manifolds / headers with a better exhaust system, and a better ignition system you'll probably get a few more ponies... Other than than you'd have to upgrade the cams to get more power... If you really want to go fast - talk to John Lane and he'll hook you up with everything needed to turn it into a 500HP turbo monster like he has in his rally car... I still need to call John back - I wanted to get a price to see if it was even comparible to what the N9Te is going to cost to do... Rabin
