  1. New ones can be found on ebay. The 405 seem to share the mirror glass and probably internal parts depending of manufacturer, in europe if you're not looking for new parts and you can keep the plastic triangle that fit on the door 309 MK1 or Citroën BX mirrors should fit. Originals manufacturers where CIPA and Manzoni, CIPA is visibly still producing them: http://www.utiligo.com/retroviseur-peugeot-505-break-5-portes-0002016002.html And a cheap new one: http://www.leboncoin.fr/equipement_auto/842673281.htm?ca=21_s
  2. An original TAD 99! You can read the codes without it but it's not as easy and way less cool. The unused "2" position on the switch is for engines without catalytic converter bdw, here is an old VHS rip about motronic diag but in french: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xcvrlz_autodiagnostic-motronic-peugeot-405_tech
  3. Yes but on a diesel you don't really need hight performance gaskets due to the low EGT. The last turbo diesel 110hp with intercooler use a K16 with a special flange, same design as the later XUD turbo but with smaller T2 or K14.
  4. Is the head gasket expensive? On a french forum a guy is making his own overside gaskets by ordering the rings and machining a stock gasket, cheap and he runs with lots of pressure. The post was old but maybe I can find the name of the ring supplier.
  5. Here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Peugeot-Other-309-GTI-/111736035280?forcerrptr=true&hash=item1a03fc97d0&item=111736035280 Not cheap, seriously not cheap but the car is from japan so probably better maintained than a french one and the car got A/C tha is someting you will rarely find in a french one. This car got the 122hp motronic cat engine XU9JAZ and not the iconic 130hp LE2-Jetronic XU9JA, probably easy to maintain with the motronic and can probably pass californian a smog test. Production numbers and remaining 309 registerd (by who?) looks like vendor bullshit but yes a car with low mileage, 122hp engine and A/C is rare. If you wanted to import one from europe the GTI16 would have been a better choice either with the XU9J4Z or the not environment friendly 160hp XU9J4.
  6. Look inside the iac and you will see if it's clogged, it should look like that: If it's not slightly open the engine won't start properly. It can be opened for cleaning:
  7. Spacing look good, bolt holes not that much. The exhaust is not on the good side but maybe this is not a big problem, they used two stock casting heads in the SAAB V8 prototype if I remember well.
  8. Murena 2.2 parts are the same so you can try Simon-auto in germany: http://www.simon-auto.de/pdf/kapitel_01m.pdf http://www.simon-auto.de/matra/englisch/kataloge.htm
  9. Interesting, the Chrysler engine is probably based on the BMW M10 engine layout but this one has a 100mm bore spacing. The design of the ROC 16v head is really, really close to the M10 based Schnitzer 20-4: A really close head design was also used on the 6 cylinder version of the M10: Finally this 6 cylinder made his way on the Motorsport street cars (M1, M6, M5) and for the DTM aimed M3 E30 they chopped 2 cylinders and made the S14: Unfortunatly with a 103.5mm bore spacing using the S14 head is probably too complicated.
  10. I will have a look but don't expect much ; the popular engine to swap is the less expensive and widely used XU10J2TE a.k.a TCT, a 2.0 8v turbo with 145-150hp stock and at least 180+ with minimal tuning. Much more torque for moving a 405 even with a stock engine: You can use the 6 speed insert on the 405 gear knob, or directly the GTI6 gear knob as Peugeot just reused the 405 gear knob and BE1 sleeve with hurricane grey leather instead of black.
  11. That was a random picture to explain it, it's probably less than 11.5mm on the Chrysler with 92mm bore.
  12. Can't confirm as I don't know what changed... but I will bet on 2150.G3 as the 306 GTI 5 speed was released after this change and the GTI6 was still using the same cable.
  13. If it's the entire GTI6 drivertain using the mk2 405 Mi16 2.0 cable will be the easiest. I forgot to mention the steering issue, the left wheel will touch the gearbox so you need something like this on the steering rack: Lenght depend of the car and also the wheels you use.
  14. The 6-speed was only fitted on the 306 GTI/S16, to do the swap on a 405 you need to keep the stock clutch and fork or use an mk2 405 pull type clutch cable (found on 1.9 diesel turbo or 2.0 Mi16), the new pull type clutch can handle more torque but can also be a pita when you reattach the gearbox on the engine. The differential is a little bit bigger so the left drive shaft can be too long but I don't now if it's an issue on the 405, anyway you can use a mk2 drive shaft, shorten the old one a little bit or put your old differential on the BE3/6. Talking about differential what about a Quaife torsen-like type? good value for money. Finally you need the cable-type reverse gear control lever from a BE1 405 mk1: http://www.miamistu.co.uk/pug/GB/405F/2/24A20A.HTM Also there are two final ratios for the BE3/6: 19x75 and 19x77.
  15. Here you can see the Torsen and the old LSD: You can probably swap the crown and pinion from a regular diff on the old style LSD but the Torsen need a specific crown or at least some machining.
  16. Bore pitch if you prefer, the distance center to center between two cylinders.
  17. Can anyone tell me the bore spacing of the Simca-Chrysler engine? I know something you don't about this head design...
  18. Well not that much, the paint job on the white isn't that good and the grey one need a big respray. Also as 99% of the GTI16 the white was damaged multiple times before, you can go really fast with it but when the car is pushed to the limit you will not see the massive oversteer coming until it's too late ; Peugeot wanted a really sporty handling with sharp cornering and minimum understeer but you have to pay the price. The other issue related to the handling and general performance of the car is oil surge, this one is from 91 and so has the updated oil pump and the oil sump with a baffle but that's not always enough.
  19. Stock ones wern't out of a big roll, the right and the left are distinct items: http://www.miamistu.co.uk/pug/GB/405F/9/90F01A.HTM
  20. Hi there, my name is Baptiste (29) and i'm from France so feel free to correct me if my english sound stange or is completly incorrect I live in the south near Spain, just a few kilometers from Lourdes. Curently I own 2 Peugeot 309: a SRDturbo and a GTI16, for those unfamiliars with the 80-90' Peugeot lineup the 309 was between the 205 and the 405. If you want you can find more about the 309 here: /http://en.peugeot309.net/about/ My diesel has a 1.8 turbocharged (but not intercooled) 78hp engine, almost the same as in the mk1 405. The GTI16 use the XU9J4 and the BE3R from the 405 Mi16, 160hp in a car that weigt 975kg (2150lb) ; on the early 90' that was simply the best hot hatch on the market! The white GTI16 with PTS (Peugeot Talbot Sport) aftermarket rims: Imageshack was hosting the pics of the diesel but not anymore, I need to find my old laptop and reupload them but it was something like that: Then I made it more GTI look-a-like with a front bumper and a rear spoiler, 220k miles and still running as a dd.
