N9TE
Welcome Jordan! Better get one soon. You sit out for another few years and it'll be get harder and harder to find one. Although for the dedicated, they always show up sooner or later.
model1911
Oh i know how hard they are to find that's one of the reasons im doin a retro type mod out of it so it will have that old (beautiful) body but it will be like a new car on the underside with 50 state legal emissions
N9TE
What kind of drivetrain are you considering?
model1911
Im looking into different diesel right now im planning on it being a common rail system capable of multipluse injection and will be running a dpf on it as well so probably a v6 or maybe something a lil bigger with a automatic trans with manual valve body i am wanting a power plant that will produce somewhere close to 400bhp and 700ftlbs
Bean
The VW diesel guys are getting those numbers out of the 2.5 TDi's, BMW 335d's have a lot of potential, as would the Benz ECO tech engines. Problem with all of those it they're run by incredibly sophisticated systems that are tied DEEP into the cars electronics. Motor swapping one of those simply isn't feasible unless you do Diesel standalone like http://www.specialist-components.co.uk/engineering/diesel-engine-management/ BIG money - but it'd be cool! I'm hoping to modernize my TD by fitting a VNT Garrett Turbo with a stand alone controller. Tata used the same XD3T design, and it's last iteration they did have a CDi injection system - so you'd need a stand alone to control it too. For me - if I can do the VNT turbo, and get the engine to 140HP on the stock pump I'll be plenty happy since the car will get 40+ MPG and have all the power I need for it to keep up with traffic. model1911
Oh yea i plan on running a complete new wire harness like i said it will also have all the newer emissions stuff except the scr system aka a nox reduction catalyst im just not sure yet of which engine/trans set up i want but i am goin to take the car down to the shell and build it up to take the torque and hp with adjustable suspension a little fender well cutting on the rear to provide room for some extra wide tyres and then I'll work in a full harness and computers for the engine/trans controllers i plan on putting in quite a bit of money and time into it but i figured its something that will be a car i could take anywhere and throw it around on the track then drive home i might go for something a little lower in power but i want a common rail engine for sure because of the tune ability of the system i am kinda looking for the best of both fuel mileage and performance and with most systems hitting 25k+ psi for the injection pump and the new injectors are hitting 7 sprays per combustion cycle you can't get as good as that for a diesel using a mechanical pump by the time everything's said and done it will be a car that will last another 20 years
