Mike T Posted January 12, 2015 Author Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 Peter Teuffel has found another one for me: 6803099, Carrosserie 16653, Cabriolet Injection, 12 November 1968, sold in Germany when new, MINDEN GERMANY This one came in, thanks to an anonymous source in Ontario :6801237, Cabriolet Injection 1967, Bleu Clair Métallisé 1158, Black Leather, Nardi floor shifter, CDN model, I am not sure whether it still exists in 2014, ONTARIO CANADAThis contact indicated that the new numbers that he or she gave me, three in total, are the only 404C survivors that made it to the 1980s, into the computer records era. Before that, cars were registered on paper records only. The newer data/current status is private and cannot be shared. Certainly, the 1960s and 1970s in Ontario would not have been kind to the easily rusted 404C bodywork, so most of them probably disappeared from the road by the end of 1979. And the 404 Club President sent me this one: 6801805, Carrosserie 14899, Coupé Injection, 1968, Bleu Clair Métallisé 1158, stripped of parts, does not exist any more. Some sheet metal of this car was used in the restoration of Cabriolet No. 4499206, LA PLANCHE FRANCE 6801805-01 by p404c, on Flickr The total remains at 1919 cars because just after Christmas I realized that there was a duplicate record in the database, so we "lost" one! Rudi is not where I would go, his bodywork is done at Coachwerks in Victoria, but I am researching a highly recommended guy near Duncan, we will see. Good references are important in selecting a shop. Meanwhile..... Mike T Posted April 1, 2015 Author Report Share Posted April 1, 2015 Thanks go out this time to Marc Maksimow (himself an owner of a 404 Cabriolet) from Los Angeles for this lead: 4592659, Coupé Injection 1964, Engine No. 5191326 (XC5); CALIFORNIA USA This would not be a US model because the car originally had an Injection engine, so it likely came from Europe (I don't think that Canada got the 404C in 1964). We are not sure where the car is today - the VIN is written into a parts manual formerly owned by the late Peugeot collector Jim Bell - but if it was in California in the 1990s it is likely still there because that climate is very favourable to cars.
