  1. So what's the word on appraisals? How much weight do they have when it comes to crunch time? It seems only prudent to establish value before an accident.
  2. Nice. I missed that note about them providing floormats. Price is right and you can probably specify the size. Do you have a ratty factory set to use as a template? I'd watch out for. So-called "patterns". I got a set from Jacues Abot when he was as W-H and the fitment was marginal at best. I don't have an origional set. Maybe someone here has a set you can use. Also, try to get the lion logo reproduced. Its not like they're going to be selling them retail. Oh yeah, ask about a group price. I'm down for two sets if they are decent.
  3. Hey André, Have you given any thought to floor mats? Someone around here was going to pattern one from factory units and have them remade. If someone does that, I might be in for two sets. We should start a separate thread if we're going to push a group buy forward.
  4. Nice stuff there André! The rear seats look to be 87+, but they'll work. I like the 87 seats better. Have you checked out Second Skin Audio's Damplifier Pro? Reviews on the interwebs put it pretty high. I used their firewall stuff on my 86's firewall cover. Their spray adhesive sucks, but the product itself did wonders for engine noise. Absolutely dying to see how the carpet goes. Carpet is trick to get right. After pulling many factory carpets, I've really come to appreciate the complexity of getting it right. Hope you went with a good supplier.
  5. Very nice work there! Can't wait to see how this work out with both projects.
  6. Dave, Crawl under the car from the driver's side. See if you can jack it up a few inches so you can really get under there. Look for a control rod that's disconnected. That's what it sounds like. If that's it, you can just pop it back on to get it home. Then you can order one up and have it replaced by a trusted tranny shop. Easy job. It'll look something like this: The big end is usually what disconnects. It's about six inches forward of the door lock (where you'd go underneath the car).
  7. Their dealers were squawking because they were losing sales to "grey market" imported euro-spec Benz models which offered a better value than the twaddle they were allotted that M-B had federalized. But now the system is in place and it's probably easier to import a car into North Korea than it is to get a non-Federalized car into the US.
  8. That car is illegal in the US. Ineligible to be imported until 2017. Sure you can import a Citroen C6 or anything in TX or FL. And all is fine until 1) the Feds find out and crush it or 2) you get in an accident and your insurance company denies your claim on the grounds you have a non-DOT compliant car. I wish the issue of laissez-faire importation of cars got political. Even the most statist-minded people I know would not object to overturning the outdated and useless import restriction of the EPA & DOT. The only people who want them are the automakers and bureaucrats. (Hint: it was M-B who lobbied Congress for import restrictions.)

    The Daily.

Just got back from a road trip vacation. Total of 3550 miles driven. Average MPG for trip: 34.31 Average speed. About 70. Best tank: 37.1 MPG. MPG drops off bad above 60MPH. 1.9L M44 BMW 1996 318ti 5sp. Never missed a beat. OK car.
  10. Care to guess how they became handicapped? "Art Cars" are very common up here in hippy-land. However, even that would get a lot of attention!
  11. I've got Firefox 3.6.6 and they ain't popping up. These are the pictures that people "upload" as attachments that popup into another window to show their full size via Flash. Anybody else having that problem? If I need to see a picture I fire up IE9 - which means of course, stooping to firing up IE9.
  12. Mike, When you used to be able to get a Ferrari Certificate, they required a few VIN shots, engine stampings, tranny stampings as well as the differential. You paid a lot of bucks and there was no guarantee you would get one. Can you scan in what you have for one of your 404s? I might do this. Thanks!
  13. You absolutely have to change out that distributor cap. That's the worst one I've ever seen I've seen modern Toyotas, 505s and 405s with better looking caps fail to start or suffer bad drivability problems. It's cheap and needs to happen. I'm very curious to see exactly what difference it will make.
  14. Try ebay UK. They seem more prevalent over there.
  15. I think the take-away from this is that anybody can do anything. It's just that you need to be forced into it!
  16. You know, i just pulled the plastic trim from within the rubber side mouldings out. I've seen threads (maybe here, maybe peugeot-l - can't remember) where others have sourced material to go in there. Wait! It was Fernando (Sukhoi). Anyway, I left my mouldings naked and they look nice. You'll have to work like a mo-fo to get the "glue from space" that discolors and turns white out of the channel. But it's worth it. I'll try to post pictures soon. Maybe this weekend.
  17. Yes, I believe I know where the last factory Peugeot grommet went. It went on a friend's 88 STX. It would be great if you had an off-the-shelf solution. Post pictures as well. Thanks!
  18. OK. Here it is. Looks like most all went smoothly. Thanks August for all the years of putting up with all of us! Thanks in advance James for all the years of putting up with all of us!
  19. No way in hell would I give up my Peugeot shocks for ANY other shock. Peugeot uses an in-house design with six valves (opposed to 4 by Koni, etc). They patented this design and short of a Citroen Hydropneumatic setup, nothing can touch it. Beg, borrow or steal some used Peugeot ones. I'm sure Brian Holm has a set that came with your car.
  20. Wow. I can't help but think most if not all our tanks/pumps look like that! I think we all have to do this sooner than later. Rather than get stuck on the side of the road. I'll have to put this on the summertime list of things to do. How tough was removing the tank? Don't know what that white thing is. Someone else here will know.
  21. Yep, AAA and a fully charged smartphone are required items when using an old Peugeot as a daily driver... Omar, 'cause of the age of our cars, everything you touch will need a "go-through". When I was a kid reading about the Titanic (before Leo ruined it for all time) I remember thinking "why can't they raise it and restore it"? Time changes things and although the changes are not as dramatic when metal sits in sea water, real changes do occur. Our cars are nowhere near the cars that people drove off the lots in the mid 80s. It's our job to sort the systems out. One by one. This isn't a Peugeot problem. I read of 928 and Alfa guys going through this exact same drill. Even Ferrari 308s. The 80s were the first years of computer driven cars and they'll take more smarts and determination to keep running than our dads did with their 50s and 60s cars. Really those cars are cake compared to our cars. Peugeot owners who keep their cars on the road during the next decade will be the toughest of the lot. I've already seen dozens of decent guys bail on the cars in the last 10 years.
  22. Nice bit of research of the sunroof fixes there, Andre! I never knew about the Dutch site. Although I think the Peugeot Service Bulletin would work fine, I think the wood block fix is even better. Of course, the idea could be executed a little cleaner, but very nice idea. Steffen, looks like you'll do great by that car. Already taking care of a multitude of deferred maintenance items. And some of the more difficult ones. Good on ya!
  23. Seeing that your battery appears to be not charged, verify this with a voltage reading. You have a digital VOM? What's the voltage of the battery? If it's not charged, see if the connection to the alternation is good. Nice and messy down there because of where Peugeot decided to locate the battery. Many auto chains will indeed test your alternator, but usually this is off-the-car. You did not put too much of a demand on the car. It was designed to have all the accessories you listed operating at once as needed.

  25. You live near "Just Dashes". What's the standard ring to have one done there? Always wanted to know.
