  1. I got super lucky and found a rebuilt head on eBay. Replaced it, car is ok now, no special tools required. Think about it- with the head on, what would a tool to hold the cylinder liners in place do? Answer-nothing! I did use a torque wrench. The torque pattern is weird, use the book! Also, be sure to match the head gasket holes to the passages in the head. This should take precedence over any labels or markings to the contrary. The French word “dessus” was on the bottom of it. That means top. You’ve been warned.
  2. I’d give them that price with no problem, as long as it runs and wasn’t rusted out. I’ve always wanted a 604.
  3. Do you think the price for it is within reason?
  4. Clean everything. Any connection with more than about 0.1 ohms is a kind of like a resistor and it will negatively impact the functioning of the thing it operates. It will work miracles. Check to be sure the engine is grounded to the chassis. Same number, 0.1 ohms. Secondly, on my 1985 505s, when I get back to it, I’m going to put a manual override on my fan clutch control, and put a good, new electric one in the front. Texas is a hot place.
  5. Well, you finally did what I was about to recommend, i.e., to verify that your replacements were in fact serviceable. Here is a secret- I work on airplanes, and we get a bad part on rare occasion, so I know it happens with cars also. I love my 505, it was my DD until I went overseas. I had fun talking crap at work about having a French car (1985 505s) and an Italian motorcycle (Ducati ST3), and neither of them ever making me late for work. Drive safe
  6. Darned shame. This is why we have to make the most of every precious day. Godspeed, brother.
