august
there has been a bit of conversation in a few threads regarding shock oils, and how to increase damping. the manual calls for 'EXXON OLEOFLUID 42 PX (P.N. 9730.27)' anyone have any idea what weight oil that is? Metako
found a link which seems to suggest it is W10 or std fork oil weight, as used in injection pump of 404: http://www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/archive/i...php/t-1692.html and this list in German seems to be listing W10 fork oils in order of preference and the Oleofluid is there! http://72.14.235.104/search?q=cache:ZCKp86...=clnk&cd=11 and ebay France: http://cgi.ebay.fr/BIDON-DHUILE-ESSO-OLEOF...5QQcmdZViewItem
Bean
That's great info Metako! I was going to just compare the two once I got the fluid out and compare the old shock fluid pouring a known amount through an orfice. Time that and go with the fork oil that's slower to pour... Course - now I can just spec it out by the oil weight... Thanks! Rabin
august
yeah, nice one Metako. do either of you know if the ESSO stuff is synthetic? the OE oil i have a feeling is not, but i could totally be wrong. also, am i not seeing it, or is 10W the thickest AMSOIL they offer https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/SearchRes...x?CategoryID=
Metako
Well I think the Esso-BMW fork oil is synthetic. They make a "Comfort" W10 and a "sport" W15 for BMW motorcycles. Not sure about the Oleofluid. Amsoil only make a W5 and a W10 but Mobil, Motul and Esso make it up to W15 and others like Fuchs to W30. From what I've read it wouldnt be worth trying anything less than W20 for better damping, maybe even W25 or 30!
Mike T
FWIW I had some new 42PX tested in 2017 and it is 5W.
