Trevor
It's time to change the timing belt on my mi16. I'm wondering if anybody has opinions or experience with beck arnley parts. There's a timing belt by beck arnley (0260290) for $22.99 at kragen, and there's the westernhemispheres "gates" brand for $43 + shipping. Any thoughts on whether i should save a few bucks or go with the one from westernhemispheres?
august
i'd hella go with the gates belt.. having one go bad just suck so damn much. i'll never forget bending all the exhaust valves i'd go for the good one for an extra twenty bucks.. have you checked on pricing for waterpumps and tensioners, etc etc etc? V-M
Those aftermarket tensioners SUCKS! I have seen too many bad ones... rollers are in wrong angle, bearings "worn" before eaven used, etc... V-M
Bean
Does Goodyear make any of their "gatorback" series of timing belts for the Mi-16? Those are the best aftermarket timing belts I've seen so far. Supposed to be better than OEM - but I'd try to go with a good brand like Gates, Goodyear or whatever. Just isn't worth it to save a few bucks on something so valuable. Rabin
Trevor
yea you're probably right. Autozone does have the gatorbacks for special order! I didn't know that was made by goodyear! GATORBACK 40188 $30.
Bean
I always order "Gatorbacks" for the accessory belts as well... They're really well made, and I've never had an issue with them. I usually go for them first, then OEM, then Gates or whatever name brand I can get. Pretty cool you can order it from Auto Zone too!
