Fiat and Peugeot have broken off their cooperation on the commercial vehicles as of last spring, so unless it's the bodystyle above, it might be not be Peugeot-able!

Sounds like a fun gig if you can drop your own job for a year. I would love to get a Peugeot RCZ Asphalte (the 260 HP one) and bring it back, but that would not be possible, sadly. Second choice for me would be a 405 T16 but it would need a container of spare parts to keep it going!

And, thanks to Peter Teuffel, here is No. 1700 for the Registry, the 502nd new one added since I took over the project for the Club: 6800125, Cabriolet Injection 1967, Blanc Arosa 1132, Black Leather, grille, turn signals and front bumper from a 404 sedan, 460,000 km, AUSTRIA Total: 1700! This one looks like it could use a face-lift, but it's given good service!

This one is not a survivor, but we will gladly accept it to the Registry: 6803025, Cabriolet Injection 1968, scrapped, Blanc Arosa 1132, Black Leather, car was crashed years ago and bought for parts, RODEMACK FRANCE Total: 1699 registered 404 C !

I think the ship is sinking fast at PSA and GM is probably going to write down their investment and bail completely.

It's actually quite fun, with the paddle shifters. It even rev-matches on downshifts. The slow shifting is just part of the car's character. I too would have preferred a 6 speed manual but the 6 speed SMT is a lot better than a CVT. I've driven a few cars with CVTs (Mercedes B 200 and B 200T loaner cars) and they are truly dire.

They're not really that simple. ESP, ABS, 4 airbags. CANBus, 5 major computers linked on it. Electrically operated transaxle. My remaining smart has a BRABUS sport suspension and handles great. It is slow though. Faster than a 504 D! Much faster!

Yeah that's just inexcusable. I drove my former 2005 smart 250,000 km in 8 years before it was rear ended and written off and in that time it had....ZERO electrical, engine, suspension or any other problems. And it was a cheap car! Peugeot has lost its way.

Hi, there is another one for auction on eBay Motors.com: 4498469, Carrosserie No. 7518, Cabriolet Carburator 1965, Blanc Saratoga 1031 with black leather, SCOTTSDALE AZ USA It's the 46th 404 C in the USA that is now in the Registry. Total: 1694!

Here is another one, this time in nice condition: 4670079, Cabriolet Carburator, 20 March 1967, Rouge China 1135, Black Leather, pre-1967 nose type, VILLMERGEN SWITZERLAND Total: 1693 !

One of the Swedish 404 C records proved to be incorrect, but to make up for the "loss" of that, I found another, this one in Hungary. It seems to be in very nice condition. Obvious problems are stainless trim on the sills that are too short, incorrect trunk/boot trim (should be pebbled rubber and ribbed rubber mats. Another "problem" is the red leather interior, that suits this colour very well in my opinion. It's hard to be optimistic about Peugeot's future, but I hope that they can pull it off. They seem to have totally lost their way since the mid-seventies and I suppose the succession of shitty CEOs has taken its toll. Sad.

Mr Håkan Granlund of Transportstyrelsen (Sweden) today gave me a huge list of all Peugeot 404s that are in Sweden, whether on the road or not. Obviously the vast majority of the 963 (!!!) cars are sedans, estates and pick-ups, but to my surprise there were 5 more 404 C models: 4590812, C Injection, 1963, car is not on the road in 2012, location: SWEDEN 4595419, C Injection, 13 April 1965, car is not on the road in 2012, location: SWEDEN 4498145, Coupé Carburateur, 19 Aug 1965, this car is on the road in 2012, location: SWEDEN 6800015, C Injection, 09 septembre 1969, car is not on the road in 2012, location: SWEDEN 6802220, Coupé Injection, 13 May 1968, car is not on the road in 2012, location: SWEDEN ....and that makes the total 1687 cars, of which 64 are Swedish.
