  1. The tell tail sign is bubbles in the coolant when the head cracks, smoking out the tailpipe is something else as the crack leaks combustion pressure into cooling system, never coolant until the HG fails completely from an over heat due to coolant getting pushed out. It can go quite a long time on the cusp of pressurizing cooling system - and it can get stay usable a long time with proper cool down and warm ups (never beat on it cold!). Rabin
  2. There’s some online manuals available for download - unless you want the actual paper copies? Rabin
  3. Windshields are usually done in butyl so they’re easy to cut out, if it was urethane then it can still get done but usually takes hours! Bubbles in the coolant bottle is the tell tale sign when the motor is revved up. You’ll also start filling the coolant bottle up as it gets worse. Still not a death sentence IMO - the right alloy head specialist should be able to fix them up since so many cars from the era crack heads. Rabin
  4. Hi Brownie, A previous owner found a generic 3/4” (19mm) chrome strip replaced the factory strip perfectly. Might be worth looking into locally, or sourcing from here. Usually comes in a roll with 3M tape on it - basically peels and sticks in. Rabin
  5. Do you have any lights with failed / rusty chrome buckets that still have good lenses? I’ve been trying to find replacement lenses for euro lights with broken glass…. Could be interested in other parts from the lights as well if any fall into that category. Rabin
  6. Wow - welcome back again, and what an entrance you made this time! Collection looks great, and the new place looks amazing! Do you have shop space there or were all the cars bought in current condition?
  7. You’ll find a thorough going through of all the grounding tree locations, all grounds, all electrical connectors, and fusing the electric fan circuit will work wonders for the car’s electrical system. Peugeot used unsealed electric plug connections, and exposed grounds which reek havoc with functionality over time. Too bad about the AC, but it might be worthwhile to do a vintage air or similar aftermarket system. The XD2s did have AC so sourcing the AC components to mount the AC compressor should be easy-ish to find. Rabin
  8. My brother is in Charlottesville VA - He’s got a couple 505 V6 5sp cars. I’ve ridden through Asheville years ago, but absolutely stunning country. Totally normal for both to indicate - best response I got was “If you don’t know which way you yourself have signalled you have bigger issues” Rabin
  9. Man that looks like a score! If the paint damage is limited to clear it might be fairly easy to bring it back while keeping original paint. Looks great in the pics! Rabin
  10. Welcome to the forum! Location is much to vague to be of any use, but you likely need to just call around to the euro places specializing specifically on European cars. The box store shops won’t have the expertise. Also confused that you comment that the hole is too large? I’ve balanced 1 ton truck wheels as balancers have an array of cone sizes - the issue is on the closed center wheels that just have the small square hole. Another option might be to use balancing beads in the tire. There’s also a technique of balancing the tire on a front wheel on the car. Can’t have any brake pad rubbing, and it has to be very easy to spin so that the heaviest part of tire always settles to the bottom. Add weight to the bottom spot until the tire spins to rest in random spots. Farmers sometimes use a horizontal balancer that basically balances the tire on the centerpoint. Add weight to the high points until tire is evenly balanced. Rabin
  11. The ‘84 will have bronze tint, your ‘87 should have green tint. Moulding should be the same, but the plastic “T” strip holding the rubber moulding will shatter when you remove it. Talk to your windshield guy to see if they can glue in a universal moulding, but it usually means gluing the windshield in a little higher off the flange for the moulding to sit nice. HVAC is vacuum controlled, but you might want to check the o-rings in the hard lines connecting the turbo to intercooler. Speeduino sounds cool - I looked at MS, had a VEMS, and then ended up with an AEM Infinity 508 and an SDS 4F EFI stand-alone just via deals I came across. Just need the time and space to make them happen! Rabin
  12. Mechanical injection is an incredibly elegant engineering masterpiece imo - For me it’s similar to admiring a really nice analogue time piece. Sure technology does it better, but the appreciation of that mechanical sophistication makes it better somehow!
  13. Congrats and welcome to the forum! Car looks to be in fantastic shape - Is it auto or manual? I love the early 505’s with the quad lights, inset grill, simple interior and the super comfy seats. Keep us posted on progress! Rabin
  14. Distributor body can be in whatever position in convenient, it’s rotor position at TDC that’s important. And yeah - batch fired injection so no worries there. It’s a decent injection system for the time, but very antiquated. These engines should benefit greatly from a modern standalone ecu… Rabin
  15. The shifter has some bushings in the shift assembly, and it connects to the trans with shift rods on “ball and socket connections. Vibration is usually worn out sockets on the rods which are then metal on metal, or the shift bushings in the assembly itself which results in a sloppy shifter. When in good condition there are few cars with as good a shifter feel - not quite Miata good, but still one of the best. With some effort a DIY short shift and a weighted rod make it even better. Rabin
  16. And so it begins! Start a new thread and just add “Part Deux!” Sounds like you got a very sweet car with really low miles! Take lots of pics and know that you’ve graduated to expert level of Peugeot aficionado now that you’re a multiple Peugeot owner. It’s inevitable when they really get to you - next thing you know you have 4 of them…. BTW - Can you post details of the place you got your ECU from? Rabin
  17. Sorry Tommy! Your post never showed up for me as a new posting so I never saw it until now. The turbo intake tube doesn’t look stock, but the stick intake hose has a connection that attaches to the valve cover PCV hose. The intake provides the vacuum and it ingests those gasses to be burned up. A better solution is to put a catch can in line so that oil vapours can condense out into the can and not be burned up. Rabin
  18. I love wagons - and that one looks really great. Glad to see it’s going to get some love and be made even better! Borderline cars like the red Mi-16 or the toughest - Too good to be a parts car, and not quite good enough/pricey to make really good. My personal justification for something in that niche is to assess it as a daily/winter/workhorse or fun car to beat on for track days or something cool. That way it can be driven without remorse and possibly fast track it a little to parts car status over time.
  19. I can understand liking the 8V with close ratio trans and it looks like the wagon has already gotten some upgrades like the Mi-16 wheels and steering wheel - the 8v probably has better low end torque, so daily driving it likely does quite well without having to wring it out. I love Wagons - so I'd save that one for sure no matter how you do it.
  20. Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and a fellow Peugeot enthusiast. It’s nice to hear you were able to save the cars as I’m sure the owner would be happy they’re going to a good home. As for the cars themselves - the obvious conclusion for me is an Mi-16 Sportwagon…. Both cars seem like they’re in decent shape, sounds like it’s win-win no matter what you decide.
  21. Turn it in the same direction the starter cranks it, but you can turn a motor over by hand either way with no issues. Rabin
  22. A board spreading the load to the transmission pan edges will work fine. I’ve strapped the trans to the jack end, and I’ve also tied it to a 2x4 across the opening of the transmission tunnel inside car. Either of those work well depending on circumstances. Rabin
  23. Shaking has to be wheel, tire, bushings, ball joints or tie rods. You could try rotating tires, but also check all the bushings and ball joints - make sure to use a lever to apply proper pressure when looking for play. Rabin
  24. These cars really get under your skin for how they drive. The steering is telepathic and the road feel is absolutely one of the best I’ve ever experienced. They’re also great fun driving at the limit which is why I loved rallycross and autocrossing them.
  25. Yes - FSM means that. 2-3 pumps for regular maintenance sure, but for a car that has been sitting that long I’d do more personally. “Flooding” the torque tube isn’t really accurate, but if you’ve ever repacked bearings with a cone packer you’d see 10-15 pumps is enough to push fresh grease in. Much rather have excess rather than not enough. The noise you have might be from contact being made to the rear suspension. There are silent block bushings that give out and can cause vibration and driveline noise to pass into the chassis. Just spit balling possibilities, as I’ve never known a transmission to make that kind of noise, but maybe it is?
