My starter is going bad on my 89 MI16,I do have used replacement starter but I'd like to purchase new unit. I drove from Sacramento to Rancho Cucamonga for 2013 SubieFest with my MI16. Poor old MI16 did not get too many looks by younger croud...I've heard some one said it's British car! So far I did 480 miles one way,and absolutely NO problems at all. Three Subaru's suffered from overheating up hill,but not my MI16,A/C was ON for the whole trip.

If the clutch engages and disengages that indicates proper operation of trinary switch.Now if refrigiant is low compressor will cycle fast on and off.First thing I would check is to make sure that blend door(hot,cold) is not stuck in HOT possition.After that I would make sure for proper amount off refrigiant in A/C system.

Bill,make sure first when vehicle is running that A/C is on and that A/C compressor clutch stays engage.

I got my DSM registered in CA county where is no SMOG :-)

I can always buy good quality Catalytic converter and new O2 sensor and not worrie about failling SMOG.
