N9TE
Head will probably go on tomorrow. So, in preparation for this, I'm cleaning the studs, etc. All threaded holes in the otherwise 'perfect' rebuilt head look fine except for the exhaust manifold holes. I ran a thread chaser down them and more aluminum than I like came back. On the first stud on cylinder #1, the first 3 or 4 threads are pretty much done for. But, the next 4-6 bite fine. So, question is - how prone would would this be to failure now? Recommendations?
V-M
Not sure what you asking? treath size (M7)? depth? Just remeber at short side of stud goes on head and it should be reach bottom just before treath ends. treath should be bit tight to keep stud hold. keebs
I think he's saying that while trying to clean the threads they got buggered. If it's only a few threads you'll probably be fine since they don't need much torque. If you want to fix it get a helicoil, or take it to a machinist. In the future use a small nylon brush and an air gun to blow the crap out of aluminum threads.
