  3. This car is for sale now at Leboncoin.fr and the seller kindly gave me the serial number: 4495447, Cabriolet Carburetor 1962, Bleu Ciel 1041, Black Leather, Asking price € 27.000, front turn indicators and hubcaps of a post-1963 model, VASSELAY FRANCE Total: 1816 !
  4. If the solenoid is working, then the starter is likely wrecked (but you could still have a wiring issue or you have a bad battery). 405s are notorious for high impedance in the starter wiring, an additional wire was run on many cars to avoid this problem.
  5. Just a warning: I changed my 405's starter twice but in neither case was the starter the issue: it was the wiring. On the XU9J2 it is possible to RE&RE it without taking anything else off the car. Not sure about the J4.
  6. So I have booked the time off work, next step is to book flights and the car. We'll be there for five weeks.
  7. I will be doing all the driving! Sandy doesn't drive! We're looking at about 5 weeks in total, about 25 days on the Continent. I should work out the finer details in the coming months. One change I think is the return leg, I am looking at taking the Brenner Autobahn back from Italy to Austria, so we can give the car a short blast across German Autobahnen.
  8. Here is another new one: 4598373, Cabriolet Injection 1966, Gris Clair Métallisé 1162, restored in 2013, originally Rouge China, GERMANY I have a photo of this car, but the owner has requested that it not be published on the Web. Total: 1815!
  9. This car was bought out of the Gard Département in France and will be restored by its new owner in Germany: 4499948, Coupé Carburetor 1967, Blanc Arosa 1132, BONN GERMANY Total: 1814 ! (10.53% of total 404C production)
  10. Unfortunately it will only be mine for a few weeks.... My wife and I are planning a trip to Europe in the summer of 2014 and when it became apparent that we would be wanting to go to multiple destinations, having a car started to make a lot of sense. The basic plan is to fly into Paris, spend a few days there, pick up a brand new RCZ on bright red TT plates from Peugeot-SODEXA and drive it to Vimy Ridge, then Ypres, then Metz to visit friends, Strasbourg, Chamonix, Venice, Ancona - ferry to Igoumenitsa Greece - and drive it around Greece for 9 or 10 days. Then we'll come back on a ferry to Bari or Ancona, possibly via Pompeii, the Rhône valley and back to Calais, where the car will be returned and the British leg of our trip will begin in a more boring RHD car. On previous trips to Europe, we've needed larger unexciting cars due to having the kids with us (the last TT car we had was a Renault Scenic 1.9 diesel!) but this time my wife and I will be alone, so only two seats are needed. (Our daughters may meet us in Britain or Paris for a day or two, our son will probably be working and unable to come over). The RCZ has some very small jump seats in the back in case they want a ride somewhere. The cheapest TT car from Peugeot for the time we need it would cost about half of what the RCZ costs; however given the choice between a three pot stripper Peugeot 208 hatch and a 156 HP manual RCZ with navigation system, leather and that oh so sexy body, it's a no brainer. The cost for 21 days is $2435 CAD. This is slightly cheaper than the US Peugeot TT site is advertising for the same car. I would love to get an RCZ-R but that would be asking too much and since we're not spending much - if any - time in Germany (to legally take advantage of the 250+ km/h top speed) there wouldn't be any point. 156 HP should be plenty, for a car that weighs the same as a 405 MI16. Top end is supposed to be 215 (I will check that if we get to Germany on the way back) and 0-100 comes in 8.3 seconds, both of which are plenty quick enough for our needs. We have travelled in those countries before, so I know what to expect of the traffic and all the other things. We have also taken TT cars to Greece before, driving there in the 1980s through what used to be Yugoslavia. I guess you could say I am looking forward to this trip quite a bit. I will take lots of photos of the car and post them here wither during the trip or when I get back. I will also write up a review of what it's like to use an RCZ on a long road trip.

  18. The previous count was too high by one because one car registered by Carrosserie number only was found to be also in the VIN registry (the mistake was discovered because the license plate was identical), so the total shown below is one less than you might expect. 4598607, Carrosserie 10842, Cabriolet Injection 1966, Rouge China 1135, Black Leather, Excellent condition, red carpeting, 130,000 original km, BRITTANY FRANCE 4598870, Carrosserie 11038, Cabriolet Injection 1966, Rouge China 1135, Black Leather, for sale 9900 Euros @ HD-MOBILE GmbH, Carburetor engine but the Injection engine (in parts) is also included, Hardtop, FREIGERICHT GERMANY Total: 1808 !

  23. I drove a 405 wagon with a 70 HP diesel around Europe in 1995. Short comment: don't bother. Although it was an OK engine for its time, it is a LOT slower than my (remapped) diesel smart.
  24. My wife an I are in Banff this evening in our Mercedes B 200 but last evening we were in Invermere BC and when leaving there this morning, we spotted a white 505 Station Wagon with Alberta license plate driving into town. It kind of blew my mind, seeing it in a rural area in eastern BC. I had no time to turn around and chase it down, or get a photo. Maybe someone knows who it may have been? There can't be that many 505s left in Alberta.
  25. They have apparently been sent and they are trying to pick them up....
