  1. alright wheel dude - heres the situation alberto's got a couple sets of wheels - but doesnt have the time to box and ship stuff out to anyone. hes happy to sell them (he says some are good, some are rough, some are bent), but hasnt gone thru them to see whats what - if someone wants wheels, they'd have to go there and look thru, and he'd price them accordingly (and fairly) thats Ramsey Peugeot on Route 17 in Joizey.
  2. descriptions of both from his craigslist ads (he lives in harlem, but the cars are being stored at Ramsey Peugeot in NJ): black 1989 peugeot 505 turbo parts - $1000 (East Harlem) was in a wreck with an uninsured motorist and out of pocket repairs will exceed the value of this beautiful classic automobile the right front of my 1989 peugeot 505 turbo automatic with the ground effect, clean suede seats all around, skirts rear air dam raised spoiler on trunk, mouldingsand decals uncraked dash board, excellent sport gripsteering wheel, clean rims/ tires, doors front and back, trunk, engine turbo transmission.. i think many Peugeot enthousiasts can take advantage of these parts, note that everything in this car worked before this mishaps and the paint job is still euro gloss finnish, window/ roof/ mirror, climate control, powersteering and all switchesand fixtures from PMA are 16 bucks a piece peugeot parts are expensive and rare if not impossible to find, junk yards no longer disassemble vehicles for parts, just crush and recycle. come see parts you might wanna extract for use now or in future bulb, cables roof, brakes . antenna motors rims, trunk lift, shocks springs everything goes! let her parts live on in another instead . http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/pts/2003982714.html (current ad, tho he will probably make a new one with pictures i took today showing the damage) 1988 peugeot 505 turbo 5-speed - $1500 (East Harlem) black peugeot 505 turbo, 5-speed gray leather interior heated front seats, working sliding roof, runs excellent all possible engine work performed by ramsey peugeot where car resides now, original clutch and turboengine, in dash cd player with ipod input, alpine all-around speakers, box bass and amp in trunk. was my daily travelling vehicle till i suffered a stroke and was summoned to automatic transmission only. http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/cto/2009205084.html
  3. i went to ramsey peugeot (i was checking out some pugs a guy was storing on their property) and ramsey has STACKS of wheels sitting around. i'm going back this saturday, i'll ask what he sells them for, and shipping (if he's willing to box them up, etc). but yeah, pass the tip along to your subie buddies - there is no shortage of wheels in nj hehe
  4. youve got email bean! and to update the rest of the board - i'm going to ramsey on saturday and will snap lots of pictures of both cars.
  5. what else is there to say besides im jealous of that car haha. sweet sweet ride man
  6. that could be/im fairly sure the same 88 in this pic on the right http://www.servimg.com/image_preview.php?i...&u=13953803 damn. its so much more crowded there right now, theres a lot of empty space in those pics. i have a note written to myself on my door right now, to remember my camera when i go back to ramsey! yup, im trying to hammer out a way to get the 88 (i may just buy it, and keep my 84 still) and have somewhere to keep the 88, until my gf's winter break - then she'll get used to the 88, and be cool with driving it daily, and i'd sell my 84 at that point. thinking if i can ask alberto how he'd feel about letting me keep the 88 on his lot for a bit longer, if i help clear up space by helping him sell/remove other cars on the premises.......
  7. Alright. So while combing craigslist to find a car for a friend (we found one, he bought it, an 86 vw cabrio), i came across an ad for an 88 turbo 5spd 505 and an 89 turbo 505 automatic (same seller, same ad, both cars are black). heres the story, from the ad, plus after meeting him today and going together to Ramsey Peugeot: he bought the 88 brand new in georgia and has owned it since; hes owned many nice cars, and swears the 505 is his top favorite - this is over various jags and bmws. He bought the 89 brand new for his wife, it was a dealer demo model, and he says it definitely had a rough life within the 300 miles it had on it when he bought it. things always went wrong with it (including the turbo blowing, and headgaskets), but his wife liked it so much they kept it anyway and kept paying for whatever repairs it would need. the 88 never missed a beat (has original turbo and head, headgasket was only replaced as part of maintenance), never left him stranded. anyway, fast forward a couple years, and its 2008 and hes divorced and switching between 88 and 89 for his daily driver - he had been using Ramsey as his go-to mechanic shop; and on such good terms with Alberto, the chief mechanic/current owner of Ramsey, that he was able to store whichever car he wasnt driving in the lot at Ramsey. Reason he kept the 89 was/is he liked the spoilers, etc, and its suede interior (the 88 has gray leather). As time passed, his plan was to swap the bits he liked from the 89 to the 88, since the 88 was the solid performer of the 2. until a few months ago. He had a stroke; cant drive the stick. A day or 2 after getting out of his routine therapy sessions, driving the automatic 89, a guy hit him, hard. crumpled the passenger front corner of the 89, frame is bent. Now he cant drive either - he picked up a 78 jag automatic to drive now (also being restored at Ramsey by Alberto, will be ready for road duty in about a week). So the 88 and the 89 have to go. The 89 looks great aside from that crumpled corner =P so thats for sale as a parts car (i forget the mileage on it) the 88 is what i was/am interested in. Its been sitting more than the 89 lately (the past couple months), and the paint is super super faded and cracked. inside is excellent. 260k miles or so, runs like a top tho. Alberto says its a solid runner, and everything works - minus the trunk strut, and the e-brake cable needs to be replaced (which i can take from the 89, and just pay for the labor involved). I took it for a drive - damn thing is fast. and tight. no smoking from exhaust or underhood. There WAS tho, smoke when we started it up, but alberto said it had been sitting for about a month since last he started it, and we let it idle til it warmed up, and there was no smoke after that (even after my lil thrashing of it in my test drive). So...I dont know. Alberto hasnt been charging mike (duh, i havent mentioned the peugeot owners name this whole time!) for storage, but now hes got 3 cars sitting there for free, and needs the space, so he'd like mike to get the cars, atleast the 2 peugeots, outta there. My position in this is that mike would like to trade me his 88 for my 84 sti. my 84 is damn mint haha. But its also my daily driver. and actually moreso my gf's daily driver, because she drives 5 days a week to and from school; i just drive on the weekends really. She was cool with getting a stick, she can drive, but just 2 nights ago, her usual 30-40 min drive took 3.5 hours - most of it in gridlocked traffic. When that happens, she doesnt wanna be driving a manual. Shes mulling it over tho. She could see the look on my face when i came home from my day at Ramsey and knew what *I* wanted haha I dont really wanna have a car that adds to her tiring day (if shes in deadstop traffic), its her first year of law school and she gets run ragged just enough as it is. But still, she digs the turbo as a fun car. So i dont know. mike has had people calling about the 88, but he was willing to wait for me to see the car today and i have til tuesday this coming week to give him a final answer. I'm also posting this all here, so that if i pass on the car, possibly someone here could jump on it (will also post to yahoo list). Its a good deal imo - hes selling the 88 for $1000. i think hes asking 800 for the 89, i dont remember. You can search nyc craigslist for "peugeot" and you'll find his ads. Somewhat separately - Ramsey Peugeot is a cool cool place! Alberto himself has a showroom condition v6 sti 505, that he has driven for a couple years - he took it apart and almost has it completely rebuilt - the man has little time, customers come in and out all day, he has a very loyal customerbase. standing in the old showroom is a timewarp - theres his sti in the corner, theres a delorean (under a lot of dust), theres a mint 57 tbird (looks just like suzanne sommers american graffiti tbird!), and mga that needs resto, a mint sunbeam tiger, a 80s/early 90s? miami vice drug dealer looking jag vert, and a brand new looking late 70s/early 80s 635csi bmw. and peugeot parts and part boxes EVERYWHERE. also a bunch of pug 405s all over the premises. Theres like 4 or 5 other 505s, besides mike's 2 505s sitting there also. and thats just in front and visible, he has a backlot with tons more parts cars. If you have a pug in the area, i'd suggest making him your new go-to shop btw - his prices are really good. I will make another trip and chat him up some more, i think it would make a good story for jalopniks recurring "forgotten dealerships" posts. well i think thats about everything i had to say, tho i could be forgetting some stuff that i'll post later on when it comes to me, it was a hectic day. A lot to absorb. Also, question regarding my test drive of the 88, to those of you with 5speeds: totally normal for the clutch pedal to not go down all the way without MEGA force applied? i only needed to push it about i dunno 5 inches for it to engage/disengage the clutch, but ive never driven a stick that had that much pressure in the clutch pedal. Also, both the 88 and 89 have good stereo systems installed, alpine stuff all around iirc.
  8. ah, thanks dude! (about the pics) and yeah, my 3spd is really my only hangup about my pug. i dont mind the automatic, but i think the 3 spd really hampers the already, uhm, not-performance-oriented XN6. what would be a premium 505? u mean a turbo? perhaps a turbo 5spd? an 88 turbo 5 spd? an 88 turbo 5spd with one owner and bought new at ramsey peugeot and serviced there its entire life, and known inside out by a mechanic who's worked there just as long? yeah, that sounds pretty premium......*big grin* i knew i wouldnt be able to keep my mouth shut til saturday.
  9. i pm'd a lil info bit and pics about my car, any chance that could go up?
  10. hey bean, i know i dont post much (i only recently signed up and joined the yahoo list, so ive been reading the archives and searching for every topic imaginable when i have time), but trust me, i'm as sick about 505s as you are haha...i wouldnt swap my old girl for some new car. blah! (and yeah, i realized the "gf" and "trading old girl" in my post and figured i'd leave it for someone to make a joke on hehe). I'm biased towards older cars anyway, but 505s are honestly not far off from the ride and comfort of modern luxury cars. With a couple updates, i think a 505 is a stellar luxo-cruiser. that can still be thrown around a highway offramp and keep her french lady composure. anyway i dont wanna post the car im looking at, in case somebody on here snaps her up b4 i do...its THAT good a deal haha. im on the verge of spilling the beans the more i type. I'll post about it saturday night or sunday after i see the car in person, and if i pass on the car, i will definitely bring it to the forums attention. its a great model with a great owner/history. and if i take the car, well, that will be a nice post (albeit a brag-post!) as well as for stereo, yeah, i dont wanna lose any more trunk space than she already has(n't); If i had the time, i'd look into moving the gas tank under the trunk like the euro models had. Right now besides work, my main focus is trying to get my camaro back on the road b4 snow hits us. (i got sidetracked into this possible peugeot trade while looking for cars for my friend - got him into an 86 vw cabrio) also, might as well say it since im itching to anyway - i'll be scoping out ramsey peugeot (the old dealer in nj) - just from phone conversations, i can see theyre pretty old school and behind the times. I'm gonna propose doing a website for them or something - they have loads of parts just sitting there, and incredible expertise from what ive heard first-person and from random reviews on various sites i found via google. look up "ramsey peugeot alberto" (although this "find" of mine may be old news, im sure someone in the yahoo list or here may have mentioned his name b4)
  11. wow, well, i'm glad this thread spun off into such an audio discussion....i never did swap my front speakers haha cant pull off the plastic trim, im afraid to pull too hard and snap something. i replaced the rears with some 5.25 pioneers (after my gf talked me out of cutting up the rear shelf to put my 6x9s) and the sound is...well. u kno how it is. meh. i might be trading my old girl in tho, so im leaving the stereo as is for now.
  12. does it have to be a full set of 4, or are you just taking what you can get hehe i dont actually have any extra wheels, but i am going to be checking out a guy's peugeot and his collection of parts this weekend, so....i might be able to work something out, cuz i'd like your set of centercaps
  13. i dont think this is such a terrible idea at all (i admit my opinion is heavily swayed by how badly i want 7inch wide wheels)... there are some decent looking wide 5 bolt pattern wheels. i could see ansen slots on a 505....and there are some 15x7 bug wheels. still hunting for ansen slot 15x7 bug wheels tho (possibly dont exist, who knows)
  14. thinking about it more...what if theres an 8x140 wheel out there.....
  15. these stock wheels would look good on a pug too, imo (first ones moreso) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GMC-SIERRA-...=item3ca6ab7a25 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chev-Z71-OE...=item2c55e4090f
  16. how do you get to the front kick panel speakers? I havent found any screws or anything there.
  17. hey guys. im new, but have been reading/searching/rereading the board since buying my 505 a while back (actually a lil b4 buying it, for research - having not seen one in the flesh for umpteen years), and one thing ive been particularly investigative about is the peugeots wheel dilemna. so ive seen rabins project posts (man, i was hoping, selfishly, you'd make it work on the non-abs car hehe), and read here and elsewhere (theres a lemons team that ran/runs a 505 with porsche rotors - could be possible theres more swappable hardware since the rotors nearly fit?) and the whole "guys with old subarus buying up pug rims" thing. so i combed THEIR board (hey, they prowl ours looking for wheels so why not haha), and found this page http://www.indysworld.com/80s/general/wheels/wheels.html now, yeah, nice, mesh rims!!! some of those rims are great, but good luck finding them... the part i wanna discuss/get some feedback on is the redrilling of chevy 6 lug truck wheels (which are 6x5.5" or 6x140 or 6x139.7 depending who u talk to) to fit. that page has a before/after shot of the redrilling to make them 4x140. the subie guys are offroad nuts, so the old school white spoke wagon wheels suffice for them, and the offset sticks the tires out past their fenders. They also say in numerous posts that they havent broken any wheels and they've held up fine despite the hard offroading they do (jumps, ruts, etc). I dont know our (505) backspacing and ideal offset for a wheel, but besides the chevy 6 lug wheels, there are also toyota, mazda, old jeep grand wagonneer, and nissan 6 lug wheels that have the 6x140 and also different offsets so they make be able to tuck in or maybe sit flush (oh that would be slick) with a 505's wheel arches. also, 139.7 vs 140 is "only" .3 mm but i would think that discrepancy would still be enough to keep a stud and a lug from joining together in sweet wheel matrimony. one the aussiefrogs site, i found a thread saying that pugs are actually 4x139.7 and its just been rounded up for simplicity's sake. so, i dont know. im keeping an eye on craigslist for anyone dumping/selling dirt cheap a 6lug truck wheel so i can measure it, drill it, try it on, and see where this whole thing stands. also, been combing ebay for 6lug wheels. i think these have that 80s look that would look cool on a 505: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-set-4-Prime-wheels...=item3a5ce4883c anyway, thoughts? or am i (and im half-expecting to be) driving down an old road you guys have been down already and turned out to be a dead end....? gratuitous car pic.- my 84 sti xn6 auto
