  1. That's a pretty respectible mod there Arun. Very clean1
  2. I've got to ask. What numbers did you throw down on the dyno tune? :-)
  3. Rabin's AFM hose is correct. However, I'm sure he doesn't want to sell you something you don't need. Disconnecting it is a bit of a pain, but not too much so. The upside to owning a good spare is the hose does wear out. And it will work on both Red or Deuce if either one of them fails. Usually, you can't tell, but looking at it or giving it a cursory in situ feel up. It's usually way too filthy and it's according pleats make it easy to conceal leaks. Pulling it will allow you to clean it properly off-car. If it's good, then you can just pull the AFM from deuce and put it on Red and see if that fixes your problem. Clean everything well, but I shy away from really cleaning the AFM. Although they aren't as fragile as the hot-wire setup on ZN3J or the Motronic, it's still fragile enough for people to have rendered them inop after dousing them with carb cleaner or whatnot. Did any "event" precede the poor drivability? Like a full throttle run? Full throttle runs can cause the engine to pull to one side causing the AFM hose to be stretched. (That's one reason they fail)
  4. I need a grounding tree. Preferably two. Like this: It can be filthy, just complete and unbroken. Thanks!
  5. The AAD probably isn't your problem. It allows extra unmetered air on startup/warmup. When warm, pinch the hose closed. The closer to the intake pipe in front, the better. That way you're checking not only the AAD hose, but the AAD itself. The engine speed should not drop. If it does, it (or it's hoses) are letting in air outside of it's role. Conversely, pinching it after startup should induce a small drop in RPM at idle. On most cars LU-Jet cars, the AAR is barely operable and not a big deal. Same goes for the Startup injector/thermotime switch. That 9V from "wire 4" needs to be addressed. The ECU thinks it is running rich. Either: a. You have a false air source b. Lambda suddenly went TU c. AFM suddenly went TU
  6. I'm not liking the 9v at the air meter. Ever thought of temporary swapping Deuce's AFM over to Red to confirm/dispell the voltage variance factor? Upsides: free and will get a better look at AFM hose. Downside: kindda a PITA
  7. Unfortunately the importation figures are somewhat elusive and they don't breakout for body styles. SW8's have always been rare. That's the nicest one I've seen an quite a while. Having a desire for originality is good here. Although I've toyed with an engine swap, the N9T engine is very worthy and parts are mostly available. Things like radiator hoses are not. Don't worry, I've have an article for that in a week. You can even buy a complete longblock from a well known French tuner for 5000 euro (http://www.politecnic.com/505mecanique.htm). The headgasket thing is due to the iron block / aluminum head configuration that was so popular in the 80s and 90s. Small parts are the killer with our cars. They are drying up so buying a complete car is very helpful.
  8. I had a MINT AMC Spirit hatch with a I6. Loved that car. And still want an Alfa. Sounds like you're like me and will drive any car that's "off", "unloved", "weird", etc. I've always been happy buying on objective features rather that what everybody else drives. You'll do fine with Peugeots. Everything is normal, except with French twists. Be aware of blown headgaskets on the Turbo cars. Other than that, standard car smarts will do you for 90% of what you need to know. The wagon looks nice. They are the most spacious wagons ever sold. Good luck!
  9. Nice going Arun. What was your best time?
  10. What kind of drivetrain are you considering?
  11. Welcome Jordan! Better get one soon. You sit out for another few years and it'll be get harder and harder to find one. Although for the dedicated, they always show up sooner or later.
  12. Wow, those have sure come down in the last few years. I looked a couple of years ago and they were all over 500 back then. At that price it would be worth getting for family members that think tires magically fill themselves with air! I'm liking the direction and prioriry of your mods. Good eye!
  13. Love the color. Although Bs look pretty decent with the 5mph bumpers, they really look best with the older chrome bumpers. Spent a fair amount of time in a B at one time. A well sorted B is a surprisingly nice highway cruiser.
  14. Great finds Mike. Hey, you've got to post pictures of your cars. I don't know if I remember seeing them. Can't get enough of them - sedans, cabs and estates!
  15. Can't want to see them André! Yup, Good ol Ray LaHood never saw a regulation he didn't like. Frankly, I'm surprised they haven't outlawed standard transmissions. After all, all that skill and effort to change gears. Quite a distraction!
  16. Welcome here. Although there are some knowledgeable guys here on the XD engines, other genuine experts hang out on the Peugeot-L maillist. You can join here: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/peugeot-L/ Specifically look for posts by Mike Aube and Brian Holm. Both of those guys have a scary knowledge of Peugeot diesels. Most of the turbo stuff around here is the petrol turbo cars. Although all cars are welcome. Good luck,
  17. There was this minty 74 Pinto on CL a couple of days ago. I know there isnt a soul under 30 that knows what one of those is. Being a gearhead is rare enough, but having a nonstandard car as well, really complicates things for us.
  18. Not to hijack, but Rabin is so right - the Peugeot lion is far and away the best car logo of a mass produced car. The only one in the same league is Ferrari.
  19. I read one article that PSA was on a burn rate that left it with 18 months left. Everybody's promising more jobs in Europe. Both Opel and PSA. Either that break that pledge or the venture is doomed. There is a lot of overcapacity and no easy way to absorb it. 7% sure. That's not very much. But the devil is in the details. Like most of you, I'm hoping for the best, but remain skeptical.
  20. Holy smokes! That's quite kick-ass! I'm not a wheel/hub/suspension expert so do me a favor and document the pee out of this. Try to make it so easy a housewife from the 50s could do it. Although the album format works with Chrome, are there high-res pictures? Thanks for the huge contribution. I was actually thinking of buying that are undrilled and having them drilled for the 505 hubs and dispensing with the conversion stuff alltogether.
  21. 1Z rules. It's my go-to cleaner for all things vinyl. I'm actually thinking of getting the 5l jug for $100.
  22. Normally, I'd say this was a pipe dream. But you're one guy I wouldn't bet against! I'm sure you'll surprise the heck out of everybody. Go get 'em!
  23. Also, don't accept sub-par performance such as missing, stumbling, etc. KJet went into some stellar cars such as the Ferrari 308. When running correctly, it's as good as anything out there. (Same for LJet guys) Koll
  24. Wow, your's is the only other red leather series 2 505 interior that I've heard of. My 89 turbo has one and the leather is roached. I make no illusion that I'll have to have it done up from scratch. But it'll be worth it.
  25. Does the Haynes manual have a diagnostic for a no-spark condition? Judging from the binary nature of the problem, it sounds like an ignition module. To test it, disconnect the distributor harness from the amplifier housing coil HT lead from distributor cap turn ignition on hold the NT lead with a pair of electrician's pliers and position its end approximately 10mm away from a ground (shock tower would work) use a jumper wire to feed terminal (G) of the amplifier module (ignition module) with +12 battery voltage You should get a spark.
