  1. Just an update. I listed the 505 on eBay. The auction ends Monday 6/1,
  2. I've never had to add oil between changes. I'm in Randolph, Morris County, NJ.
  3. It's still available. Sent you an email.
  4. Due to lack of time to devote to it, I am putting up my 1987 Peugeot 505 STX for sale. I would let it sit, but that’s not the right thing to do for this car. It needs to be driven. The car was purchased new by my father in 1988 and has been in the family since. After he passed my mother drove it until 3 years ago when due to failing health she stopped driving it. It sat for 2 years in her garage until I asked her for it and brought it back onto the road. The car has always been garaged and has a folder full of service records going back to its purchase. It was serviced at the dealer and after Peugeot shut down the car was maintained by one of the former dealer mechanics. The car has only 77k miles on it. Mechanical The car runs strong and passed NJ emissions in Nov 2013 after sitting for 2 years and after only one fresh tank of gas. It has always had premium grade gasoline in it. It has new belts, a new alternator, and battery. Tires are a year old with about 3k miles on them. The a/c wasn’t working well a few years ago and my mother had the belts disconnected. The belts and pulley are in the trunk. When I got the car I spent a weekend cleaning all the grounding trees. All the electronics seem to work, including the digital clock. The heated seats don’t seem to get warm, but I have yet to start tracing the circuit. Exterior Condition The body is in great shape. I did not get a chance to wash it as the weather has not been the greatest. The paint and clear coat are in fantastic shape for a 28 year old car as you can see in the pictures. There is a shopping cart ding on the rear driver’s side door. The fog lights are missing as dad hit the parking curb once and broke one. He removed the other and over the years it’s gotten lost. I replaced the trunk lift support, but still keep the broom handle there for nostalgia. Interior The blue leather seats are perfect with no rips or tears. There are no cracks in the dash. The headliner does not sag. A cassette got stuck in the original stereo so I replaced it with an aftermarket unit with cd and Bluetooth. I still have the original head unit which will go with the car. The sunroof cable broke (no big surprise there) and I have disconnected the switch to keep it closed. I have the original front carpeted floor mats but the rubber backing has disintegrated. I will include them if you want. Misc My daughter hit the passenger side mirror against the garage door opening recently and broke the mirror housing. I have another housing but without a mirror. I will try to flip it out before it is sold. I also have a sunroof windscreen as well. For that true 80’s nostalgia touch, the 505 comes with a Peugeot bra as seen in one of the pictures. My daughter will not let me keep it on the car. The car still turns heads but I just don’t have the time and funds to get it to the next level. My daughter is starting college in the fall and proceeds from this sale will go towards her education. Half of my life has been spent knowing and driving it, but it’s time to let it go. I’m posting it here first but will be listing on eBay shortly. I just wanted it to go to someone who knows Peugeots and would appreciate it for what it is. I’m asking 4,000 or b/o. The car is located in Morris County, New Jersey. Thanks for looking.
  5. Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I've got the same thing going on with my '87 505 STX. It could be a bad battery as the Alternator was bad and it may have brought the battery with it. It's been too cold and I've been too busy to spend time on it so I've been resolving it by hooking up the battery charger at night so it's good the next day. Like the OP I checked to make sure all accessories are off. Will start testing draw off the pos lead, Peeter
  6. So, I just finished the alternator swap. I took my time and it took about 2-1/2 hours start to finish, including cleanup. I put the car up on ramps and worked mostly from above, but also below for the pivot bolt and the wires. Here's the steps involved 1. disconnect battery 2. remove air filter and filter box 3. remove fresh air hose below filter box 4. move the charcoal canister under and next to the filter box out of the way. 5. remove wires and bolts from alternator (wires and hinge bolt from below and top bolt from above. 6. remove alternator from above 7. replace new alternator from above and button up in reverser order. The old alternator was charging in the mid to low 13's but when the lights were on it was in the 12's. The new one was showing 13.89 and 13.77 with the lights on. I will be driving it for a few days before handing it back over to my daughter. Peeter ps it helps that it was sunny and 50 today,
  7. Bill, I'm about to embark on this exact task shortly. Just ordered my replacement alternator off of eBay. While I do have ramps, I'm thinking of putting it up on stands and removing the passenger side tire. Will let you know how I fared once done. I'm old and grouchy too, thankfully I have a garage to work in as I hate working on cars in the winter. Peeter
  8. I think I'm going to be ordering from this vendor as well as I just had to rescue my daughter yesterday. The alternator on my '87 505 STX is only putting out 13.49 volts at idle, less with headlights on. Get got to school and it would not start anymore.
  9. We purchased a BMW X1 for my wife this past weekend and I drove her down to the dealership in our '87 505 STX. I made sure to park it right out front. a few salesmen came over to look at it and were impressed with it's condition surprised I hadn't put historic plates on it yet. In a related note, this has turned into my daughter's daily driver. She was apprehensive at first, but the first day at school she had at least a few people come up asking for a closer look. The one thing she did not like was when I had the bra on it ( a bit to 80's for her and some of her peers). They were excited last week when the odometer turned over to 75,000. Question: we bought a cassette adapter for her iphone but it jammed in the stereo and I could not get it out. Finally did, but now it still thinks there is a cassette in there. I want to upgrade the stereo to a cd and either an aux control or Bluetooth so she can stream music. Any recommendations? I want to keep the cost down for now as I may change it out later. Thanks, Peeter '87 505 STX 75k miles
  10. update: I cleaned the contacts on the board and connector as well as all the lamp holders, added a cardboard wedge to keep things tight and things have been fine for the past few weeks. One of the connecting points is a bit worn and may have been causing problems. I'm keeping an eye on it. Peeter
  11. My '87 505 STX is going through the 7.5A fuses for the passenger side taillight. I had replaced the fuse recently but the other night she was pulled over for having the taillight out. Thankfully she just got a warning, but I would like to correct this so it does not happen again. I'm suspecting there is an issue on the printed taillight card, but want to confirm that is the issue. My solution would be to bypass the card and manually wire the lights. Am I on the right path or any other suggestions? Thanks, Peeter
  12. That was the question and comment my daughter got from her friends when asked what kind of car she was going to be using when she got her license. She, herself, gave it a puzzled look when I brought it home from my mother's house last fall. She recalled seeing it Granny's garage, but never really out and about. Dad had bought it new and after he passed, my mother started driving it until she had eye surgery and no longer felt comfortable driving (she'll be 92 this August). After sitting idle for the last 2 years I brought it back to life with a new battery and fresh gas. As time allows ( which is not a lot lately) I have been working on little things, making sure it's roadworthy and safe. Since March my daughter has been using it to get around and I think with each trip she is getting more and more proud of her ride. I made sure she knew how everything worked in the car. It was the car she used to pass her drivers test. Standing watching her take the test I was asked "What kind of car is that?" She has gotten a few comments from strangers and now responds proudly " Yes, it is a Peugeot!" My mom is coming up tomorrow for my younger daughter's 8th grade graduation. My older daughter is eager to take Grandma for a ride and show her how well she is caring for 'new' car. Now with the weather getting warmer, the classic car shows are starting. The car is not quite ready to show, but I will be borrowing it from my daughter to drive and park near the show. I've got a bra for the front as well so it will really look the part of an '80's car. I'll have to take some nice pictures and post them. Peeter '87 505 STX 74k Miles
  13. I think I need to check the lines above the tank. I had a jacket in the trunk for a few weeks and when I took it out it smelled like gas. how difficult is access to this? Peeter
  14. I'm working on the '87 505 STX I got from my mother that has a belt squeal when it's cold. The belt in question appears to be the one connected to the alternator. The belt itself looks in good shape, and had been replaced. Even after replacement the squeal was there. I up for replacing it again if it helps, but thought I seek advice here. Any ideas? Thanks, Peeter '87 505 STX 73K miles
  15. I can say that cleaning the grounding trees, especially the ones under the dash does make a difference. When I got my mom's car back on the road most the dash and button lights were dim or off. The digital clock would fade or go out completely. I spent time on a Saturday and cleaned all 6 trees and now all the lights are functional. Even the clock is on and keeps fairly good time.
