405 AC Questions

Recommended Posts

My daughter is using a '91 405S.

I installed a new used condenser and receiver drier in the spring.

The system had held vacuum pretty well, and we charged the system and added an anti-leak product.

We could not find the leak.

It lasted through a brutal heat wave and then stopped. She said it made a funny noise.

I checked it yesterday. The compressor clicks on when when turned on. No cold.

I am thinking bad trinary switch and no charge. Any comments?

Hi, Savo,

Yes, the car is running, and, yes, the clutch engages, but there's no cold.

It appears the system safety (trinary switch) which turns the system off for low pressure, high pressure, or high temperature, is not working.

The clutch does engage and disengage without reason.

Sorry, the Yahoo group has outlived its usefulness for me.

If the clutch engages and disengages that indicates proper operation of trinary switch. Now if refrigiant is low compressor will cycle fast on and off.First thing I would check is to make sure that blend door(hot, cold) is not stuck in HOT possition. After that I would make sure for proper amount off refrigiant in A/C system.
