91 405 DL - sitting for 10 years...

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Abe...Im a newbee to the Peugeo world, and need help ASAP ! HA..

I just recently aquired a 91 405 DL and its been sitting for atleast 10 years.

I have it at a reputable mechanic shop (not they're specialty) but they good, the mechanic told me

not to spend the money in not but I think it be a decent car.

Not to mention it was grandmas car and Id like to see it on the road.

Other than the interior being in awesome shape (it sat under a tree, under a car cover) I was told

it needed basically every fluid, bushing, fuel pump, and filters...etc.

So I purchased another 405 online except that this one is a mi16 (donor car).

Any ideas ? Id like to get more power outta it i thought doing a motor swap down the road is a Honda Vtech

the way to go? or 505 Turbo ?

Hi Abe,

I split your post into it's own topic.

My advice to you is depends on if you can do the work yourself or not. This kind of resurrection is totally doable if you do the work yourself. If you're paying a mechanic to sort this car out for you - then heed his advice and walk away.

All you really need is a willingness to learn, a place to work, and some tools and you can do this yourself. Paying someone to do it however just doesn't make sense unless you're so loaded cost doesn't matter.

Points to keep in mind - any sort of swap is going to cost big money (if you pay), and lots of time if you do it yourself. Mi-16 swap is the easiest of course - but if you're doing that work you need to make sure to fix up the donor engine before it goes in. (new clutch, seals, timing belt, water pump etc etc). 505 turbo's are RWD cars and in no way similar to the 405.

If I you keep it and do the work - get it running as is. Get some grease zerks into the rear suspension arms, flush / change all fluids, remove and have the fuel tank cleaned with fresh fuel. Run it as is to make sure you like it - THEN decide how much you want to spend.

Right On Rabin !

I definatelly gonna be doing the work myself..

I have a good veriaety of tools (since i work in the collision industry )

and have the drive to get all the work done at home

in my garage and look forward to getting this dog on the road

I think the trickiest part im dealing with now is getting replacement parts

since im in san diego and no one really has anything in stock

as far as my mi16 car i gonna strip most of the parts off it including motor, trans and

all suspension. the guy i bought the mi16 from had receipts for doing the timing belt,

clutch cable, clutch, plugs and plug cables so its a start.

thanx again rabin
