  2. Hello everyone, Okay, so the thing is, in short form, I have installed a ZPJ V6 engine from 605 to 505 gti. And as I really dont know how common this particular engine swap is worldwide, and because I think many of you would like to see my version of it, I registered to this forum. The car had 2.0l ZEJ-engine as I got it. But lets begin with the project itself. So two years ago I bought a really nice looking 505 GTI from "not so convincing" owner. So the car was leaking gasoline and didnt start even after half minutes of start grinding, the electricity was done bad REALLY BAD, test drive was total disaster, but yet so hilarious as we saw that the previous owner didnt know anything about cars. But I was in love for the 505, especially for this one, hence the paintwork and additional lights and the price wasn't so bad, so I bought it. The price was tight, and it wasn't negotiable because "It would bring bad luck", said the previous owner. I can't even imagine what would happen if we had even slightest bad luck with us! So after we came down to our home city, the car almost bursted into flames.. There was smoke coming inside the interior carpet, luckily we managed to locate the faulty switch, that was the engine fan's on/off switch that the previous owner had re-located inside the cabin.. So now you see why I teared the whole car upside down to get rid of the sh*tty wiring and stuff. The whole car's electricity system was f**ked up, and I got two plastic bags of wires that I threw away. The wires were build following this rule: about 7 cm wire (3"), then a connector, and same again.. And the most of the connector's weren't even protected in any way! At this point, as most of the wires needed complete rebuild, I hit my eyes on my extra ZPJ engine, which I had bought for spareparts to my 605 SV 3.0. So that's where everything started. First of all, I built a stand for the ZPJ engine, and by doing so I figured it was running and in good condition. I knew it would not be easy to fit the 3.0l frontwheeldrive engine to the 505, as the oilpan, clutch cover and enginemounting's will not fit straight. I didnt know that the pedals, distributor and the whole brake system required heavy modding as well. As the V6 engine was in good condition, it was time to get the proper gearbox and clutch cover. I found the gearbox from V-M. I used BA10/5 box in this vehicle. My friend made the clutch cover from combining the 505 Turbo Injection clutch cover and the 605 SV3.0 clutch cover. After plenty of measuring and fitting, we had a clutch cover, that connected the BA10/5 to the zpj engine. We fit the Turbo Injection's hydraulic clutch cylinder to our clutch cover. So now that the clutch cover was ready, we needed proper bottom end to engine, otherwise the oilpan doesn't fit. I used the same that can be found in ZN3J, it fits directly to ZPJ. It was time to first fit test and bang, the powerbrake and climate blower was in the way, so I removed them. After that, the engine fits in its place quite nice. At this point, I knew I have to mod the powerbrake system and distributor in order to get the pedal box fit. So I used 205 gti's powerbrake, a 605 brake master cylinder, and lowered the pedalbox 5 cm (2"), turned the distributor 120 degrees with the help from my friend and mod the valvecover very little.. After those "little" tweaks, as I call them, the engine fitted in place just fine. So now I needed the engine mountings.. This was the end of summer 2012, and as I dont have an garage,and it is really nasty to do anything outside during winter time as your fingers freeze and drop out, there was an inevitable break.. All good stories come with sequals, so will this one too Just kidding, but I have been writing this for an 1.5 hours now and clock is eleven at night + early morning, so I will continue writing this tomorrow.. If anybody has or has done, or you know somebody that has or has done similar project, I am more than happy to hear about that.   3. Greetings all: I inherited an '81 505 TD and it came with all the shop manuals...not just for the 505, but also for the 504. I don't want to sell them, but I would be happy to provide information to anybody who needs it. I am not a tech, but I am happy to share these. Here are some pix of the 504 manuals.   4. Hi Everyone > Lifelong Citroën fanatic, recently started getting into Peugeots. After resurrecting a 1975 604 last summer and letting it go on eBay in November, I went looking for my next project. Somehow I've ended up with two: a 1983 505 XN6 bucket of worms, and a 1986 505 Turbo with an unknown list of needs that would hopefully make a presentable driver. Considering it only cost me $400 and had a good set of tires, I figured I could at least break even just selling the wheels and tires to a vintage Subaru fan and scrapping the rest. Trouble is, the interior and body are really clean, and I'd feel horrible taking it the crusher. I'd like to keep it on the road, but I'm hoping for some input before getting too deep into the project. I finally had time to do some exploratory work yesterday, and found several issues. The car has been parked for two years or so since it stopped running. The fuel pump fuse was blown, but replacing it didn't get the car to start. It turned over and seemed like it wanted to catch, but never did. Radiator proved to be empty. I pulled the intercooler and found oil inside, and more in the up pipe along with what looked like coolant. Digging deeper, I found one of the spark plug wires detached and completely corroded. All of the hoses surrounding the turbo are pretty much toast. The turbo impeller is covered with corrosion, but there doesn't seem to be any axial play. The valve cover had clearly been leaking oil badly; two of the nuts holding it on weren't even tight. Once I pulled off the cover, I found sludge and coolant mixed with the oil in the cylinder head, but the timing chain and cam lobes look clean, so I think they've avoided long-term damage. I'm willing to put $500-600 into getting this car going again, but I really don't want to go beyond that. It's an automatic with 115k, and a nicer looking one from California with leather and a thousand-dollar head unit just went for $1799 on eBay a few days ago. Would a new set of seals be enough to fix the turbo, or does the corrosion on the impeller imply that it's beyond saving? Can I find replacements for the dry/cracked hoses? Do the parts and machine shop work add up to more than the car would be worth in running condition?   13. I love Peugeots… and this car was a complete impulse buy in August, 2011. It was in New Jersey on Ebay and I bought it sight unseen then had it shipped to Florida. Truthfully, I have no business owning this car. It needs occasional work and there are no mechanics to work on it here. It appears from my research that the 38,466 mileage is legit. I have only put 1,500 miles on it in the last 2 years. It has been sitting in outside storage. Interior is in excellent condition for its age. Car is clean. Carpet is excellent. There are two leather upholstery seams that have split (one each on the front seats) but otherwise very nice, some small chips on the driver's door where it appears it was hit repeatedly over the years, and the steering wheel has expected wear. Paint buffed up when I got it and might now… It has been in the sun so might need painted. I have not opened the sunroof so cannot speak to its condition except to say that it does not leak. Mechanically the car runs very well. AC is cold when it starts but has issues later when engine is hot and car is turned off… then blows warm air. Obviously compressor is fine but there is a sensor issue that needs a real Peugeot mechanic to troubleshoot. The rear brakes need work. I have put new tires on the car and a new alternator. Overall I would say this is a very nice car for a person who can work on Peugeots. It is listed on E-bay. I paid $3,200 and am basically trying to get that back out of it.
  14. Hi guys, I was contacted by Jeff Robinson in Laguna Niguel, Ca. Several years ago I bought a gasket set for my car from him, and he recently contacted me with more parts for sale. Most parts are for a 405 Mi16, so contact him directly if you need something. I tried to get specifics, but he said there was too much to list... From Jeff: I have since sold my MI16 and have collected a large amount of MI16 OE parts and repair manuals. Some new some used. All in great shape. Clean and stored inside. I also have several sets of Corteco complete major engine overhaul sets from various Pug models( No turbo's left)and factory repair manuals hardly opened for 505.. If you know anyone please have them contact me. My phone # in Ca. is 949.481.3484 (robinson1779 (@) cox.net) He did mention that he has 3 PRV V6 Corteco complete gasket sets including valve stem seals, and a Valeo clutch kit for the N9TE engine...   15. As usual things were crazy leading up to the departure, and grand plans of having the car repainted prior to the trip quickly became impossible. I thrashed on the car for two FULL days prior to our planned Thrusday departure, having taken Tuesday and Wednesday off before we were scheduled to leave for PPIHC. I parked the 505 because the rear axle was cluncking quite badly, and the front struts were totally blown - so at the very minimum that's what I had to do. Rear axle was replaced with a good used one, and the front struts were replaced with some low mile ones off a total loss 88' 505 GLX I bought years ago. I'll need to rebuild the original struts that came off the car and reinstall them when I do the wheel and brake upgrades. The rest of the car was in great shape with plenty of pad life on all the brakes, brake fluid was fresh from a few months back, as was the diff and tranny oil. Decided to just top up the diff and tranny, but the engine got synthetic Castrol 5W-50, and a new Purflux filter. Reset the TPS and idle switch, and confirmed timing was still spot on. Once the major known issues were corrected I attended to the electrics, and cosmetics as best I could. Front right park light wasn't working, fog lights were blowing the fuse, side skirts were off the car since being repainted, and the car was really looking neglected. Front park light was a corroded connector at the left fender park light connector, driving lights were shorting out because the left Hella driving light light was making contact inside between the bulb and the grounded bulb clip. Gave the car a VERY thorough wash, and then installed the side skirts - I just had to get new hardware to installed them. Had the car done LATE Wednesday night - like hadn't started packing yet, and didn't finish packing until well past 1AM! My friend Dan got off his night shift at 6:30AM Thursday morning, and drove straight over. My other buddy Gary lives across the back alley - so it was a convenient departure. Loaded up the car and headed for Colorado at 7AM. Once driving the car wasn't quite right - the only driving I did in the last two or so months was just back and forth for repairs at another buddy's garage the previous weekend. Brakes felt funny, and the engine just wasn't as smooth as I remembered it. Nothing to be worried about, but I was extra leary as I had two friends in the car and if the car broke down I'd never hear the end of it! Trip was planned with a very direct route, and we thought it'd be fastest to stick to secondary roads like we did on our return trip in 2004. Sadly we didn't even think that road construction would be that bad and we had a heck of a time with delays the whole trip down due to road construction. We also didn't give much thought to Saskatchewan only having a front plate, and Wyoming being pretty strict about having front plates - got stopped for doing 72 in a 65, but as we waited for the cop we noticed then everyone had front plates. Got away with a warning thankfully. As the trip progressed it was clear the only real issue was the mid to high 80's temps being in a black car with no AC! It was pretty hot in the car, but the fresh air system kept us from totally melting - that, and the stop where we tried some F'real milk shakes - they really were good, and hit the spot nicely! With three guys in the car - we made excellent time. Drove non-stop with just the odd meal breaks, and an unfortunate GPS detour when we tried to find a BBQ place listed in the GPS that was a vacant lot when we arrived... Ended up eating at a Taco John's when the Subway line-up was too long... Once the sun set, it was comfortable in the car again and we were still making decent time until we hit the interstate construction about 1 hour from Colorado Springs and our hotel. The last hour was the most delayed part of the whole trip of course, and the traffic that late at night was another big surprise. Finally arrived at the hotel at ~11:30 PM and prepared for the how to spend Friday. We knew we were going to miss Friday practice as we were just on the road for almost 18 hours, and would essentially have had to have gone immediately to the hill to line up. But sadly I had been mis-informed about there being a Saturday practice and our plan was to see that practice. Didn't find out until Friday during the day that Satureday was a rest day - D'oh! Probably a good thing in hindsight with how busy and sleep deprived we were anyway. Friday morning tried to sleep in late, grabbed a big breakfest, and find Mach2Racing's shop to check out the new car... Race team wasn't there, but chatted with the shop owner (Wagner's Prop Shop), and he advised to do the summit as early as we could to avoid traffic - so that's what we did. I hadn't heard from Marc, and I didn't have his number in the car, so we waited for contact as long as we could before deciding to do the run to the summit as early as we possible. (Found out later I gave Marc the wrong number for my buddy's cell!). Summit run was breathtaking, and the road was simply astounding. Go-Pro'd the ascent, and took some nice pics at the top. The road, and the steep grades are just not properly communicated in videos. The tight 180 corners have especially steep ascents with 1st gear and floored throttle barely being able to keep a 25 mile an hour speed limit. Spent a good hour on the summit and saw a couple cool cars - one being a 914! Really nice father and son that drove 6hrs away. Chatted to him about his car, and and took a couple pics. He admitted to taking pics of my car earlier - so I knew he was a good kid. On our way down we stopped at Devil's playground and I hung out by the car as the altituded was giving me a head ache. Kind of funny when I noticed a mini-van turned in and came straight to my 505. Driver jumped out and started taking pics of my car - Naturally I had to capture the moment. I'm used to taking good natured abuse from friends ALL the time about driving Peugeot's, but this trip was the absolute best one ever for getting waves, thumbs up, and people just walking up and checking it out. He was from France and was happy to see a 505 after so many years, and thought it was great I drove all the way from Canada to see the race in it. Coming back down we quickly had a pattern set up to pull over and let the slow cars in front to get ahead, and before the next slow car came, we'd drive out so that we could enjoy a quicker pace down the hill. Nothing crazy mind you, but some of the cars decended at speeds that meant I had to ride the brakes all the way down in 2nd, or decend in first... So it was much nicer to just get a gap so we could decend at our own pace. It was a great plan until I found out about the brake temp check at the bottom - surpise! We had a decent gap so there was some decent braking into the last corner before the check, so temps were 382F and we were asked to park and let them cool. (Wasn't really an issue with 600F fluid in the car and Ferodo pads - they felt absolutely fine) It did make it easier for the young guys in a gutted WRX wagon from pulling up and complimenting me on the car however...
