august
There has been a little talk on oil catch cans so i decided to do a little research (looking for a cool one, or some good DIY ideas). I found this article that a friend of mine (who's a turbo mazda head) wrote on setting up duel catch cans. http://www.mx6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110096 ...and speaking of using beer cans (other thread), maybe japanese cars run best when using japanes beer cans for pcv? ...this looks pretty damn cool too: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/Pro...463&prmenbr=
Trevor
I'm curious what the effect of not running vacuum or PCV valve on the crankcase is? I wonder if i should look into that more and modify my catchcan to plumb back into the intake pipe? Any ideaS?

Any ideaS? ← i think gavin's approach is a little extreme. i would imagine running to atmosphere won't do *any* harm, but i'll have to ask around.. hmm
webmaster
As long as the Positive Crankcase Ventilation system isn't getting blocked or restricted, it shouldn't be doing any harm. Venting to atmosphere is fine, and in fact suggested for high output engines. Trevor
I also found a bunch of sources talking about inadequate crankcase veltilation causing oil leaks due to the pressure buildup behind the seals. One of the main reasons to recirculate seems to be emmisions.. recirculating blowby back into the intake so it isn't released to atmosphere without going through the 'proper' pathway, through the cat and out the tail... It doesn't appear to be necessary to have vac as far as i can tell.
