405sri IAC valve / stepper motor

Hi all, today i took off throttle body and cleaned it up, was really gunky in air passages.

Put it all back together, fired it up and.....3K rpm!!.. :o

Well seems the IAC valve is not functioning properly ?

Is it not self adjusting? All i did was clean and re assemble.

Is there a way to test if motor is working the valve in and out?

Can it be pulled in & out by hand?

When i first got the car it would idle up and down from cold start, then settle when warmed up.

So i thought this cleaning would have sorted idle out but it's gone way worse... :(

Any advice on how test this unit would be appreciated.

Hi Roger,

Hopefully you fixed your e-mail otherwise you won't get notified of responses...

It sound like there is either a big vacuum leak, or the IAC is stuck wide open. What did you clean it with, and have you tried seeing if it works while removed from the car?

Usually thy just need cleaning with a good carb cleaner, but its possible its stuck, poor connection, or its just plain faulty.
