Yes it was the 3.0 liter PRV--has a larger bore than the 2.8 we are familiar with. From what I understand, only the Peugeot version of the motor used the heads with the 12 exhaust ports... the Citroen version of the car allegedly did not. In fact, I don't even think a 24 valve version of the motor was used in the Citroen. I don't know for sure though.

Anyway, despite whatever problems the 605 may or may not have had, I think it is an attractive car and probably not to shabby to drive either. One overseas road test preview I read in Car & Driver indicated how well balanced the car was. Though he did think the power steering might've been a bit too boosted given the character of the car in general, I do remember the comment that he was genuinely unable to tell where the drive wheels were. That is an impressive comment for a FWD car housing a large torquey motor.

This is a cutaway image of the engine where you can see part of one of the headers

I've seen other pictures that have the engine all polished up--very pretty. I'm sure there is a lot of power potential locked away in that motor, like the Mi16.

The PRV motor is a 90 degree design and I'm sure that made it difficult to fit in smaller FWD cars. The new ES V6 is 60 degrees, and I believe it is also lighter. Plus with it being a new engine, they can attach the buzz words "ALL NEW" to it and make it more appealing. Of course, that would be for the dumbed-down North American market. Perhaps they are more sensible in Europe? ;)
