  1. Totally true Norcal505, especially becuase it is a one of a kind. Time for an update though, I recently bought it back! So here my current collection: My current daily drive, a "new" 604 SRDT: Still got the 505 GTDTurbo from the above post, it's now resting for later use. Also the GLD Break is still present for large loads but I'm willing to sell it, because I've got the Dangel back: 7 seats or huge cargo room and 4 wheel drive. It's got everything that I might need!
  2. As far as I know, Danielson made a kit to boost up the 110hp engine to apparently 136 hp. They also made a kit for the Turbo Injection, giving it about 200hp. But probably there are people who can give more information.
  3. Some of you will know me and my cars already, but Norcal suggested to put pictures on the forum of all my cars. So here they are! I have had quite a lot of cars, all Peugeots. Most of them I had only a short time. I'm a bit a 505 saver. Buying them from people who want to get rid of their old car and selling them to 505-lover, often to restore them. Lets start with the cars I still have: This is the 204 1.1 4-speed from 1976, running on Liquified Petrol Gas. These are my 83 Turbo(N9T) 5-speed and the 87 GTDT(XD3TE) automatic: While the GTDT is the most luxuriours diesel, I have the most basic diesel too, an 82 Break, 4-speed with the XD2 engine. No electric windows, no central locking, no sunroof, na power steering, no clock in the dashboard, no second mileometer (0-999,9 counter). But very spacious! Recently I sold some 505, like my 86 GTI, the 84 GLD and the GR Dangel: Earlier I had a 82 SRDT, and an righthand driver GTDT(together with the GTI). CHeck the windscreenwipers, they are in the wrong direction too! I also drove a year this 82 604 SRDT, still regret selling it, what a nice car: A short time I had this 82 GRD Familiale, but it was technically in bad shape, I sold it to Africa. I also had 2 305 SRD Breaks, from 80 and 82: And finally, my first car, a 306 from 93. Although it was my first car, it's the newest I ever had, lol.
  4. Quite a late reply, but I lost track of this topic. Indeed it was a long list, but I made some shorter because I didn't have the room to give them all a place. I'll make a new thread with all 505 pictures I have onwed!
  5. By the way recently I saw an american spec 7-seater SW8 at "La fete des limousines", a meeting for underrated french large cars like 505, 604, 605, Citroen CX, SM, XM and Renault 30/Safrane. It was owned by a french guy who worked for Michelin in the USA. Later he took it back to France, now it in Holland. From Citroen there were mainly CX's and XM's, but also a few SM's among which this MINT one: And did you know this big french car? It is a Talbot Tagora. Technically it is largely a 604, but with the 4cilinder N9 eninge (so without Turbo).
  6. Yes, this rims are Peugeot rims. I have the same on my Turbo. Although there were not available directly from the factory, they could be ordered at the Peugeot dealer.
  7. Welcome, I know a guy who has a new Bosch pump sitting around. He wants to sell, but it is located in the Netherlands, Europe. Shipping might be difficult and expensive.
  8. Thanks for the compliments. Indeed my range is large with both tanks. In total I can take 160liter with which I should be able to do 2000km or over 1250 miles. I still drives nice with bioth tanks filled. The second tank if of aluminium, so completely filled it still weighs only about 100kg or 200pounds. A 505 should be able to cope with such an amount of luggage. But last weekend I went to get as much oil as I could because the station where I can get it is quite far away. I was able to put an additional 10 cans of 20 liter in the trunk. So on the way back I carried almost 400kg (800 pounds) of luggage and fuel. On the highway it goes well, but I scratched the bottom of hte car a bit on a speedbump because the back was really very low to the ground. Yes, without the tank, the luggage room is immense. By installing the I lost at least 120 liter luggage space, but I can still have 200 liters fuel in cans in the back. So total trunk Volume of euro 505's should be almost 500 liter I guess
  9. Last week I converted my 550 GTDTurbo to run on vegetable. The first two cars I converted (604 and 306) did have quite some issues of leaking air in the fuel system, but this time it seems to went very well. No problems whatsoever the first 1500 miles. You have to make sure the oil is preheated before it enters the fuel pump, otherwise it is not liquid enough and will damage the pump. Normally the heating is done by the heat from the cooling liquid and a second fuel tank is installed to be able to start on diesel if the engine is cold. This is globally the scheme of my conversion. There are basically two fule circuits of which one is heated by the heat exchanger (WW). With matnetic switches (klep) I can choose the fuel tank to use. Main point for me was to keep the car as originally as possible because it is still in fantastic condition and had low mileage. I succeeded in that! No parts were replaced or removed, no new holes drilled and now hoses cut. I installed all "engine" parts of the conversion on one unit which I can easily remove as a whole. This is the set with a piece of rubber under it because it will be placed onto the battery. This is in fact the only free space under the bonnet. The extra fuel tank: Additional filter and fuel pump: Although the tank is 90liter, I still have quite some room for luggage: No hole drilled for the fuel hoses, I found original holes:
  10. Finally I had some time to collect the car last weekend. The headgasket is fixed in France. Some other minor things I will do in Holland like the exhaust. Here are some pics together with my GTDT from the road back home: Unfortunately the engine is not running smooth, at least not at low rpm. I changed the spark plugs already, but that made no difference. Especcially when I start driving, the car is "shocking". At high rpm though it seems to run perfectly. Has anybody an idea what this could be? Somebody told me it could be air flow sensor, if the turbo has one. Any other suggestions?

  12. Welcome, Always nice to read from a fellow 505 diesel driver. Your smoking problem can also be a result of dirty nozzles. I don't know your cars mileage, but when it's over 300.000 and they were never changed or cleaned, it might be time to do it. You can try adding a bottle or two injector cleaner to your fuel. That can do the trick too. Is the engine running smooth these first 5 minutes or very irregulary?
  13. I completely agree with the answers. Peugeot quickly realized that plastic cables were not that smart to use. Therefore (in Holland at least) they did advise to put special clamps on the attachments of the cable. They were available by Peugeot dealers here, I don't know if dealers in the US also had them. Anyway, greasing off course diminishes the stress in the cable too.
  14. As far as I know there were only 2 coupes made by Peugeot. Other ones are self-built and look differently. I'm not 100% sure of the one in Belguim, I have never seen it, but an other 505-enthousiast from Holland claims he has seen "the second one" in an belgian car collection. Do you have pictures of the 5 coupes?
  15. The picture is surely not the car for sale. There exist only two of these coupe. The picture is the one that is in the peugeot museum, the other is located in Belgium. But none of them has a diesel engine.
  16. I'll take some pics if I find a Turbo for parts, but indeed Turbo's are rare in Holland. I am closed to Antwerpen (Anvers) but Rotterdam is also quite close and might be easier, it's one of the world largest ports. The car is still in France, I'll keep you informed off the travel to Holland.
  17. It might be, but I think V-M's Turbo is grey (Gris Winchester) while mine is more blue (Blue Glacier). As far as I know these were the only two colors available for the Turbo Serie 1. Off course both the cars are two-tone colored with dark grey on the bottom. By the way, it should not be that difficult to get a bumper shipped over to the US I think? If you're willing to pay the possible high shipping expenses. I can look around for some euro-spec turbo pieces. I will anyway because I now have a Turbo myself.
  18. Thanks, I'm not that strong financially, but for $500 I couldn't let this one go. I bought it from a friend of mine, that's why the price was quite friendly. Especially in France, where the car comes from, the Turbo's are very sought after. Another $500 to fit the head gasket should make a technically good car. This spring and summer I have enough time to fix the small issues on the body work.
  19. Yes, I bought a Turbo from 1983. Never had such a car, but I think already it's the nicest 505 to drive! It's not perfekt, it needs some work on the body (bit of rust, no dents) and the head gasket is blown, but then again it was very cheap. 150hp, 5 speed manual (automatic Turbo's don't exist in Europe I believe) and around 80.000 miles.   20. Welcome, I too have a 604 that runs on vegetable oil. Very well possible, the engine can cope easily with it. But check the brand of your fuel injection pump. If it is a rotodiesel or lucas, it is not very strong so that you should install a second tank for diesel so the cold start can be done on diesel. A Bosch pump is stronger. Fit a heat exchanger on the vegetable oil circuit that heats the oil with your cooling liquid. When the engine is warm you can easily switch over to vegetable oil. But when you're using WVO, but sure to filter it up to 1 micron so you won't get problems with your fuel filter. Good luck. Check my 604 topic: http://www.505turbo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=674
  21. Yeah, try that. Especcialy in the US it would be ashame if this "treasure" was scrapped. Amazing, even in Europe soo many 505 en 604 at on eplace are rarely found.
  22. Welcome, I too love the 505 diesels. The engines are quite indestructible, almost the only thing that can break on the diesels is the head gasket, but I hever had it. It's important to run it warm slowly before using all the HP's. Otherwise it is the most loved car in french speaking Africa, thath says something about their quality. Apart from that, I find the comfort of a 505 is several levels higher than of the german brands of the same age. Especially over speedbumps and bad roads it's 10X nicer than a mercedes for example. Most problems we have here in wet parts of Europe are rust on the 505's. Check the attachment of the front wings under the bonnet, the arms on which the rear wheels are connected, the sunroof and the bottom of the trunk. If that is all wel, rust is probably not an issue on the car. About parts in America I can't say anything, but I have done almost 100.000 miles in 505 diesels and never had to replace anything special. At the moment I'm preparing a GTDT from 1987 as daily driver (just fix a leaking radiator and change some rubbers). So that too had the new dash. But be aware, the dash was introduced in 1986 with the XD3T engine (95hp), one year later already (1987) they put an intercooler on it to make it the XD3TE engine with 110 hp. Might be worth to take into account.
  23. I've seen two Panhards in my life, both in car collections. They are, as well as the Facel Vega's real museum pieces nowadays. The latest Talbots however are still rarely seen as daily drivers in Holland. Take a look under the bonnet of your 505. Quite some parts are of Talbot origine. You often see the Peugeot logo as well as the Talbot logo on them: And I almost forgot to mention Simca with its glorious rally history. From them Peugeot inherited its racing knowledge: And of course there is the sports brand of Talbot: The Matra. I have seen a few around at the dutch public roads. Typical 3-seater sportscars with the N9TE engine. This is the Talbot Matra Bagheera: And there were some manufacturers that were, after the war, more specialized in utility and army vehicles, like DelaHaye, Berliet, Packard, Hotchkiss and Saviem (daughtercompany of Renault).
  24. Due to the enthousiasm for Citroen, I opened this topic for pictures of other, less known french car makers. For example do you know these ones? They are Facel Vega's. The company existed between roughly 1950 and 1975 and produced luxory cars for the rich people. You don't see them a lot, but in their time they had an amazing perfomance. They were faster then most Ferraris and more luxurous than Jaguars! The top model had an 400 HP, 6l V8 which was good for almost 200mph. That was quite amazing in the sixties! Unfortunately the quality was rubbish and sales dropped too low so the company disappeared. Talbot is probably better known. They were taken over by Peugeot early 80's. The Peugeot 309 for example was the last design by Talbot (It would have hit the market as Talbot Horizon is they weren't taken over). But earlier they also made big luxuruous cars like the Lago from early 50's: And their last big model, the Tagora. Which has approximately the same technique as the Peugeot 604. And then there is Panhard with their typical round chapes. They disappeared in 1967 already.
