Johnny
I ran a little experiment last night. I've read that you could "de-rust" objects with very simple means, and I thought that I'd try it. The material I used is very basic: -A cheap battery charger -some scrap metal, which I bent to a crude circle -5L of water -one tablespoon of washing soda -one 10L plastic bottle -one rusty rear caliper from a 505 turbo ^^ The setup looks like this: (the caliper is submerged) When I picked it up after 16 h it looked like this: I put it in for another 4 h, and then when I picked it up, rinsed it under water and dried it with a heatgun it looked like this: As you can see, there is still some light rust left on the surface, so I gave it a round with the rotating wirebrush, and then it looked like this: I gave it just a few minutes of work with the wirebrush. I forgot to take a "before"-picture, but the caliper was pretty much covered in rust, the worst loose rust had been brushed off it. This is a non destructive cleaning, so none of the "good" metal is not eroded. I think it worked suprisingly well, and I encourage you to try it. Ah yeah, I was looking into trying that myself. I've decided to go with EvapoRust. Pretty amazing stuff. http:///www.evaporust.com/

N9TE
It sure looks amazing , have you tried it yet? Ya. I bought a 1/2 pint or so localy before I sprung for a couple of gallons. Works just like they say. The process is salled chelation which chemically severs the rust from the metal. I've got a couple of gallons on order. Have some nasty bigger pieces I'm going to try next. I'll add to this thread with some pictures.
