  1. one of the things I believe is that if you drive a car, you should know how to work on them. I taught my wife some basic stuff and then off she went. She used to own a crappy Mustang (4 cylinder ) that would throw a lifter. She would pull over, take valve cover off, put it back, tighten it a little and go. She is one in a million. Actually today is 18 year anniversary.
  2. Found a wrench thing in the back trunk thatis 8mm square drive. Mother in law pointed it out to me. Bought a backup drain plug for just in case episode. Front calipers are rebuilt, wife helped out alot. Everything is mounted. Tomorrow will jack up rear and put thenew calipers on rear, then brakes will be done. Slow and patient is the theme for this build. Thanks for the advice Rabin.
  3. Just found out today that my wife's boss who sold me the 405s and the 505gl also has a 505 turbo diesel. Next mission is going to be having him sell it to me.
  4. Front calipers torn apart, pistons look excellent, ordering rebuild kit tomorrow along with some other parts. Hopefully things get easier from here. Thanks for all the advice. You guys are great.
  5. Some of you seem to know one another quite well. Do you hold get togethers or just travel and drop in on one a9if in the area. That would be cool to do. I was just wondering.
  6. Update on 405. Front end is on jacks and calipers off, going to rebuild them. New rear calipers are on the way. Was going to drain old oil and got under only to be flummoxed by not seeing drain plug that I am use to. Is there a special tool for this? Used a small pipe wrench to loosen it. Also found a leak in the fuel line, but it looks easy enough to fix. There also seems to be a noise from the engine around where the starter is, not sure what it is. Does it while running like something needs lube. Am I in over my head or is being patient my best bet. Crossing fingers for success.
  7. Discussing this thread with the wife, just got the fish eye and said she would do it. She good at being my supervisor and keeping my temper in check. Thanks for the help.

  12. Just want some ideas to steer me in the right directionthanks for any and all ideas. That is front right headlight.
  13. My heart bleeds, these were in the next town over from me. Like 10 minutes away. I got into this just a little to late.
  14. The cars are at their new home. Photos as soon as I can figure out how to post them. Not too tech savey, if you know what i mean.
  15. Thanks for the responce guys, a fellow I work with owns a tow dolly and said he would help for gas money. Yeah! Using a tow rope or chain is not an option. No brakes in either car. Here in Ohio, as long as your not running rampant and creating chaos, the cops pretty much leave you alone. Have been meaning to take pics of both cars. Looking forward to showing progress of them both.
  16. My wife purchased an adjustable tow bar and wants me to remove the front bumper to attach it to so it can be towed home to work on. I want to rent a tow dolly for headache sakes. I believe that this is a terrible idea to do but she is always right. So I could use some info on how much work this will be. Also the cars are only about 5 miles away. Yes there are two. The other is a 505 wagon. I believe that the wagon has a 2.3 ltr in it. Help...
  17. not sure about the engine in the wagon. Both were parked in 07 or 08. The 405 is running but needs tune up. Wiring issues with the wagon but it looks easy enough, i hope. Both are solid cars. The guy I have bought them from say never junk a Peugeot. So I'm not. Hoping to get them going for the teens to use until they can buy thier own cars. Also thanks for all your help everyone. .
  18. Sorry, I forgor to give my location. Central Ohio. U.S.A. Again thanks for any help.
  19. My wifes boss from her part time job, just sold us a 1986 505 wagon and a 1989 405s sedan. Really excited about getting both going. The 405s was fired up today and needs brakes all around. Minor electric issues, mice chewing in engine compartment, but will be road ready in a couple of weeks. The 505 wagon is the major project. Major engine wiring issues. My wife primary job works for a car parts store so some parts won't be a problem, but were is the most reliable place to get parts for Peugots. We searched our local chain parts store for accessibility and got real nervous when we could not locate , starter, alternater and such. Can I pick your brains for information. Thanks for anything given.
