I have a 1983 505S diesel with the following problems: 1)Rough startup, must depress accelerator for 30 seconds or so 2)LOADS of blue smoke until warm Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks [/quote I would start by checking the functionality of the glow plugs. If your problem only exists with a dead cold engine, and warm restarts are no problem, this is where I would start{but am no mechanic}. Guest
Thanks ouigpt! It's my sense that the glowplugs are fine as the car typically fires up right away, but requires that I depress the accelerator to keep the car running... and then there's the blue smoke cloud... Pugsley
Thanks ouigpt! It's my sense that the glowplugs are fine as the car typically fires up right away, but requires that I depress the accelerator to keep the car running... and then there's the blue smoke cloud... both my 81 and 82 always behaved like that, I put a timing chain and glow plugs in the 82 and had a shop check the injector pump timing , had them check the injectors, it still behaved the same. I wouldnt loose any sleep over it.
Guest the505inme
There is something wrong with your motor, this is not normal. These motors need the valves adjusted every 30 k, the motor will smoke if it's long over due. If the timing is off, it will smoke. IF the fuel is piss, it will smoke. If the air filter is plugged, yep, smoke. And of course, if the plugs are not getting hot enough, it will smoke too. It may fire right away, but run like crap until warm. Try to run a heavy wire directly from the pos battery term to the glow plugs ( dis connect the oem power feed first, under the blue timer box) hold the wire there for about 7 seconds, start it, if it starts better, then it's the glow plug circuit at fault. If I were you I would adjust the valves, then check the compression regardless. If the pressure is under 300 psi, then start looking for piston rings. Inspect/ test all the plugs when they are out. Good luck. Hello! New to Peugeots... Guest the505inme
BTW, when the temperature goes below freezing, ANY old diesel will beifit from a block heater or in-line lower rad hose heater. It will start and run much better. Hello! New to Peugeots...
