  1. awesome that car wound up in good hands, i had been emailing with Renata about it for a bit, trying to help her get the word out more about the car. did you get to see the stx automatic they have?

and damn straight youre putting euros on that one - will make it so much more perfect

  2. hmmm. i bet the window winders could be found in other cars - like our exterior door handles ive seen them on other european cars, i feel theres a good chance the manual window winders your GL has would have been used in other non-power window euro cars...pre-e30 bmws (i say pre e30 cuz i dunno if all e30s had power windows, but all the ones ive seen in person have)

    or maybe old benzes too

yes -- the GL has roll-up windows. part of me wants to keep it as it is, since it's different from most 505s (and therefore cool)...part of me wants to convert to power windows since i have children. i've decided to leave it as-is for a while, may change to power windows later. i have accumulated some of the parts (bezels, switches), will probably continue to collect the others. part of the reason i am not changing right away is that i'm a perfectionist -- i'd need to change the regulators since the wind-up regulators have that splined post that sticks out of the door and i don't like those power window conversions that put stuff on top of the splined post to hide it.

of course, being ocd, i have issues with leaving it as-is...if you look closely, you'll notice that the blue plastic of the window crank has faded, but not the round knob at the end...must be different plastic and/or production technique. older models had wind-up windows (504s, etc.) but used different handles, and as you noted, 505s with wind-up windows are fairly rare -- at least, ones that have survived to this point. so it's difficult to find nice replacement handles (can probably find them in europe, won't be cheap). not sure if there is any good way to restore the handles i have to their original color. so then i think, "well, i should just convert to power windows." i go round and round.

sometimes, it's hard to know where to draw the line. i'm sure you've all been there.

as regards the post-apocalyptic scenario, i hadn't thought of that...though i gotta be honest, if it comes to that, i probably won't be driving a peugeot. i mean, it's hard enough to get parts now... :D

i ended up buying dynamat, b/c as arun pointed out, once you add the bulk discount, etc. the price difference is not that big as compared to the well-regarded knockoffs. right now, my blaupunkt radio is holding things up. i don't have the little u-shaped pieces of wire needed to remove a DIN stereo (on order), so i can't remove the radio bezel in the front console and thus, i can't remove the front console (the carpet goes underneath the front console). should have that in a few days, plenty else to do until then. :)

  3. dude you're in DC? - i was just there the past couple weekends, with my 505 heh. where is embassy row? i went to 2 cars'n'coffee events in northern VA

Pretty cool little cars, saw one here in the nation's capital today.

Going back to the embassy tomorrow, to hopefully see some more in the vicinity!

We're staying really close to embassy row, we've already seen a fair share of European Market Vehicles (ie: Audi, BMW, Volvo, Citroen, Mitsubishi, Toyotas).

I've taken maybe 300+ photos so far, and I'll be around for another 5 days. If anyone's got any places around D.C. in mind that they want to see, I'd be more than happy to include them in my Photography Portfolio.

    Cheers!

  4. hey dave, how did things turn out? did you get your car taken car of?

i saw this link recently and thought of this thread -- it's a writeup by a french 505 owner who got tired of his linkage popping off, and fabricated a solution. as usual, use your favorite translator or just look at the (self-explanatory) pics...boite de vitesse = box of speed, i.e. gearbox...

    andré

    "box of speed."

    I like that.

  5. whoa - dig the rims!!

and in your center dash console, that peugeot "button" - does it do anything? does it light up? I feel like I need one. badly. it looks awesome. I'll trade ya one of my regular boring buttons. i have a fog light button i dont use haha

also dig the new gauge within the stock cluster, i thought of that too, but i'd want to swap all of them, and i'd wanna keep the econoscope somehow heh

also, interesting automatic shifter - from a newer pug retrofitted?

  7. the french dominos sign - i love details like that

cool car dude, and welcome to the sub-inner-old dashboard sti club-within 505turbo.com-club...club. hehe

actually, now i think of it...you and norcal505 have similar looking 505s on the west coast, and me and "steve" have similar (bluish/silver) 505s here on the east coast

edit- just realized theres an e30 in the background of your 2nd pic - norcal, this dude is you from an alternate dimension.

  8. heh - i too have been mulling over the removal of the side strips...especially since one day, out of sheer boredom/stupidity, i gave the drivers side rear door's strip a light tug, and off it came hahaha. just have the 2 strips of adhesive tape still there, to be coaxed off at some point

for the side parking light situation, i had 3 ideas, like rabins -

shave em entirely - tho it bug me in some corner of my mind that there is extra wiring for those lights sitting within dark crevices of the car...maybe route them all the way to the trunk, to power a heckblende, like i dreamt about adding to the car before (this has a very slim chance of actually coming to fruition of course...)

see how they look if the lights are taken out of the strips and just secured to the body - that pic of the 2door concept's front marker lights gives me hope that it could work. would have to look closer to see if its infact the same marker light.

swap em with lights/housings from another car - super slick might be the very narrow pencil ones on i think its the acura tsx - i think they may look neat, fitting right into the 505's body crease line, being straight and narrow. maybe fill in/make flush the little body colored surround they have. this would also be part of a full body paint...which im not considering yet

also, a part ive seen for 69 camaros, which is kinda neat (but i wouldnt put on my own, shes getting hers shaved completely, but maybe on the 505. maybe.) are these:
