Your 83 looks great! I believe your 83 is the same light blue as my 82 version. I have a spare center bezel that surrounds the HVAC controls.
I'll post a photo of it.

Andre', finally caught up with your new thread on your MI16!
Of course I was expecting no less than your previous project thread of the effort of detail you put into your updates.
Always a pleasure to read!
Thanks

Miles, you are correct that the euro lamp assembly will be in conflict with the stock oil bath air filtration unit on the right side.
Also the early quad headlamp setup doesn't have the appropriate parts to directly install these assemblies ether, so additional parts are needed.
The euro lamps in my opinion don't look well with the early recessed grill as opposed to the newer style flush face style.
If you are OK with loosing the oil bath filtration and going with a different approach, you can doing something similar to what I've done with one our TD's.

Glad to hear you've taken the plunge into a rebuild. When all said and done you will have the knowledge many do not have on these fine engines!

Lets see if the following 5 attachments are what you need;

I should be able to find time at work tomorrow to scan and convert to a pdf. file.
-
Rick, if Rabin doesn't chime in I know I have it. May take a bit till I can scan and post it.

Our project 505 TD is running no emission equipment. I've ran other 505 TD's we've had in the past without any ill issues. You can read the story on the latest 505 in the link on my signiture below

Your right Brian on the 84 model and up use a flare rather than the banjo fitting on the turbo side of the oil line. We had a discussion earlier this year when we discussed locating a used line for my 82.

Not directly related but a previous discussion on TD turbo's and fuel delivery;

Thats the correct info on the turbo. Keep us posted if you identify where the oil leak actually is.
-
Are you talking about the oil feed line on top of the turbo housing or the return line on the bottom?
If its the top which is likely, the factory line with banjo fitttings can be modified as to purchase the original is prohibitive.
You could also be more fortunate that the 12 mm copper crush washers on the banjo fittings are bad.

Joe, could Bill use the guts from the XD2 pump Rick purcased to repair his XD2S pump?
-
I'm thinking the pump Rick purchased, the XD2 non turbo pump would share the same internal parts your looking for.
-
I really enjoy following along on your TD build Joe. I may not chime in all that often so thanks!

Just a bump here! 6k. miles added to the clock since this project began. The electric vacuum pump conversion is doing the job as intended. Actually has become a driver several days a week. This fall will bring some mods or repairs.

Joe, I've experimented with the last round of electric vacuum pumps and have settled for the self regulated GM unit. It currently resides where the oil bath air filtering bowl was located and the remaining space is used for the new updraft air filtering. The GM pump is small enough to tuck behind the left front headlamp assemble and my vacuum reserve reservoir as I may move it to that location.. Noticeable quieter without the mechanical pump and there has to be a measurable gain in horse power, even if it is calculated LOL
I removed all the non functioning egr vacuum equipment too. A lot less clutter so far and continue to experiment with crankcase ventilation.
Haven't had any ill incidents running it this way for 700 or so miles in my mild climate area, The single largest advantage these diesels have with the 5 speed verses the automatic is running temperature. Much cooler without the automatic sharing the already limited cooling capacity.
Having fun with ours, turbo lag is reduced and whistles a much happier tune over our completely stock twin to this one.

Where's it headed this time?

Very impressive Savo!
I enjoy following your updates.
Thank you

Ruben, I sent you a text message this morning.

Got some shop time in yesterday for some much needed motor mount replacements. Since this is a driving project we decided to eliminate a few things that in our area aren't needed.
Removed the entire A/C system and cruise control components.
These have been added to the removal of the previously removed mechanical vacuum pump, EGR plumbing and oil bath air flitration.
Simplifying actually makes for an improvement.
