  1. Hello All, Does anyone know of a mechanic who knows 505 Turbo Diesels in the Portland Oregon area? I am south of Portland and just north of Salem. My 84 505 wagon has been sitting in the garage too long and its time to get it fixed or sold. The injector pump was leaking, a novice attempt and repair rendered it junk. I replaced it with a "known good pump" but do not have the where-with-all to get it timed correctly. Any help greatly appreciated!!! Please respond via email to [email protected] Big thanks!!! Rick
  2. BTW, thats a picture of my car I just sold to a fellow south of me.......! did you get this pic off of Craigslist in Portland??
  3. how many wheel covers do you need?
  4. Hey Tommy, I need some goodies for my 84 wagon, I need both exterior mirrors, the rear key mechanism for the tailgate, and a steering column surrond, prefferably in blue, can you hook me up? Big thanks, oh and if you could message me directly that would be helpful.. Rick
  5. Hey Rabin, I am a mechanical engineer by trade, watch and clock repair is just a hobby of mine for the last 40 years. Can you point me in the right direction to some instructions for pump removal and installation? I know I need to get a manual but I am hoping to get started this weekend on dis-assembly. I have found some Bosch VE seal kits online, mine appears to be leaking at the distribution block seal on the end of the pump and I did see some instructions on replacement without taking the whole pump apart. Any help is always appreciated!!!! I'll try to post some pictures here soon, I got some wierd cars and am always looking for more. We moved to the country about 2 years ago and I have a large shop and lots of land to park "projects", that and a wife who lets me do my thing! Rick
  6. Hey Andre, I am below Portland in a sleepy little farming community. Both my XN6 5 speed and the TD have been leaking rain water in the passanger floor, I finally realized the drain below the winshield was plugged up on both so a little wire fished down there drained them. I need to remove the grills and do a good cleaning. Rabin, both cars have minimal rust luckily, a few reall odd places in my experience, mostly where paint has failed and the wet PNW winter rains got them but solid quaters and floors! If I get a break from the rain today, I will post some pics for you guys. I did notice running the diesel that I am losing duel at what appears to be some type of overflow tube off the top of the injection pump, but can't see where the rest is coming from. I have some cleaner in the tank and am hoping it may clear up as I hate to have to get the pump resealed.........but as a watch maker, I bet I could do it myself.........!!!!!
  7. First ride today, key blanks arrived on thursday, had a key by last night, backed off my trailer this afternoon, tossed all the junk left by PO, vacuumed out a gallon of water from the passanger side, air up a tire and went into town fof a fresh tank of fuel. Car ran like a charm!!!! Brakes and transmission are spot on, only real problem to overcome tomorrow is the lights are not working. I jumped the lights with a hot lead and they work, but I think the power to the switch is shorted so I may just by-pass it for now. Pretty darned pleased with it for only paying $375.
  8. Hi All, Just got an 84 505G wagon started yesterday. I fired it up today and noticed fuel leaking from under the car off the oil pan, I can see it is leaking from the injector pump but not specifically where. Any thoughts guys? The car has sat for 6 years as best as I can tell, it was pretty crusty when I got to it, but it did fire right up with a fresh gallon of fuel and a hot battery. Big thanks..Rick in St Paul OR
  9. I got a crack at firing this thing up today! Still no key. I have blanks in the mail so I can make one. I powered the pump, plumbed a gallon can to it, jumped the fuel switch and darned if it didn't roll over a couple times and fired up, Very pleased!!
  10. Thanks for the advice Rabin! I have an 84 as wagon with a 5 speed and this seemed like a logical purchase as the price was right. I'll keep you up todate on my progress..... Rick
  11. Hi Guys, I just hauled home an 84 GL Wagon with the T/D and an auto trans and a mere 89K orig miles. Last tags on it are 06, so its been sitting for some time. When I popped the hood, I noticed an aftermarket elec fuel pump so I can assume the factory pump may have issues. Plan on dropping the tank to clean out. Any thoughts or advice on starting one of these guys after a long hibernation? I also lack a set of keys for it, not too concerned with G/T locks, the lock cylinder ffor the tail gate is MIA, but was hoping I could get a key cut by code, just not sure where to find it. Experience tells me on a door lock cylinder but thought I would ask before I go tearing them apart.....
  12. Hello All, New to the group, I recently purchased a one owner 84 GL wagon, 2.0L 5 speed. I am experienceing problems with the throttle. I am getting bucking, shuddering upon mid acceleration. Also happens at low to mid throttle when I am just cruising, depending on load. I have replaced the fuel pump (it went bad) and the filter while I was at it. I checked the cap and rotor and the appear to be fairly recent but I have not pulled the plugs. I havent looked close to see if there is a TPS, and am kind of ruling out the MAF sensor.........any thoughts or experience folks? Big thanks in advance.... Rick in St Paul Oregon.....
