  1. The car passed inspection so it will definitely be out for the French/Italian show Mike. That was one of my main schedule drivers to get the car registered - can't disappoint Johnny. I go every year. Hope to match a few new names to faces so will keep an eye out for you. What will you have there?
  2. Great pics. If I ever need a 505 action shot I know where to get it.
  3. Thanks Hugh. If all goes according to plan it will pass inspection today and get plates in the next day or so. It's had all the minor items fixed, e.g. CABs, swaybar link bushings, vac lines, horn connected (very French-sounding and quite loud), and auxiliary belts. Also replaced the water pump as preventative maintenance. Forecast is for a sunny weekend so I'm really hoping to be able to finally take it out and enjoy it.
  4. Thanks guys, @Goce - not to worry, this will definitely be a fair-weather car and it will live under cover. @Bean - I actually like the skinny tires and having enough wheel gap to look like I'm about to head out on the East African Safari at any time. The TD won't be overpowering the 185s anytime soon either. I would like to get some period appropriate Michelins or Vredesteins on there someday. Any ideas on the correct non-TRX tire from the period? Good info on the tranny too. Linkage is on the side as you say. I'll switch the oil, wash the underside, and monitor. Next couple of weeks will be focused on getting inspected and registered. Wish me luck.
  5. I was back in Edmonton for Easter, and at that time the car was in primer. The interior was swapped from cloth back to the original leather, and general cleanup happened, along with a NOS windshield. Then painting happened. Scott opted to do the hood, deck lid, and grille too since they would have looked crappy next to the new paint. Only the roof and c-pillars still have the old paint. Wheels also got painted Then it got put back together in an all-night extravaganza, and released to the wild, complete with a transit permit. Plenty of time to spare before the trip out. Hours probably. Scott drove out with his buddy Kevin yesterday (Kevin is buying a VW Fox for the return drive, for novelty value since those went extinct in Alberta years ago). Apparently the trip out was mostly uneventful. A few items turned out that need sorting ahead of the out-of-province and Thaw though. Biggest threat is a leak where the shift linkage enters the transmission. If it requires pulling the transmission and fabricating parts, and my mechanic isn't available, it may miss the rally but that isn't the end of the world. If anyone has any suggestions here feel free to throw them out. Will add some more photos as time and weather allow, and at the least I'll do a quick spin around the hood to confuse people, who will wonder 'Why does that sinister spy car sounds like a garbage truck?' Huge thanks to Scott and all the guys who made this happen. Never doubt that a small group of motivated and single car guys on a farm can complete crazy car projects, indeed, they're the only thing that ever has.
  6. Hi all. I'd like to introduce my '82 604 TD. I've know about this car for several years now since meeting a collector named Scott, who lives near Edmonton, AB. I'd seen it a few times while visiting his place, sat in it and made vroom noises, etc. AFAIK it's a California car that somehow made it up here where it was bought by Scott's friend Richard - a French car mechanic and former dealer of such fine cars as Peugeots and Ladas. Richard used it for a number of years as his holiday car due to its superior long-distance comfort and fuel economy (37 mph recorded on the trip out). It was generally garaged so didn't suffer the usual fate of old Pugs driven in rusty climates. It was eventually sidelined due to some clutch issue. Scott picked it up quite a few years ago as a someday project, and continued to store it inside until his new shop kicked it out a year or two ago. This is how it looked when Scott first picked it up, and it looked essentially the same whenever I saw it. I was at Scott's last Christmas and saw it again, so once my Traction Avant sold we made a deal that I'd pick it up provided he could get it sorted to the point where it could make the trip out, be reasonably assured of passing out-of-province, and in a perfect world, qualify for collectors plates. And oh yes, it should be out in time to run in a local vintage rally called the Spring Thaw. So Scott got to work. It finally made it into the shop a couple of weeks ago. and things escalated quickly... This wasn't the original plan, but the car had been resprayed once, and when the side mouldings came off some of the old paint came with it. Combine fixing that with blending in the various spots that did need touching up, and Scott opted to do the sides and front. A bit of bodywork followed to correct some past weirdness, but it was quite straight and no signs of big hits or ugly rust. Meanwhile, mechanical things happened too. The mystery clutch problem was identified as a failed master cylinder, so Scott rebuilt both master and slave. He also did the brakes, fuel lines, old rubber bits under the hood, etc. Biggest job was rebuilding the front struts. Hugh Logie noted that these are rebuildable, but the skillset generally isn't around so people throw in replacement cartridges which ruin the drive. You don't try to second guess French automotive engineers. Luckily Richard is one of those rare people with both the skills and surplus parts to do the rebuild.
  7. Partial respray. Roof and c-pillars were good, but it was easier to just do the rest rather than try to blend in all the spots. I'm pretty sure Scott had 14" alloys, although I didn't look closely since I didn't really ever consider going that route. Yes, Scott's setup is pretty fantastic. Always a highlight when I go back to Edmonton to visit the family. I do know Dave K, since I've been on the Thaw something like six times now and he's always front and centre. Great guy. Hope you make it out some year. Dave H (the main organizer) is pretty reasonable on letting 1979ish cars in, but it helps if he knows you since the Thaw is always over-subscribed. He does do some similar events that aren't so full and could be easier to enter. Always nice to have more French cars to offset the Minis and 911s.
  8. Yep, that's me. Scott bought my R5 so now he's returning the favour. I think I'm getting the better deal. Scott had a set of alloys, but I like steelies so opted for those. I'll start a separate thread once I officially own the car, although it will mostly just document the flurry of activity at Scott's place. Here's a shot of the car waiting to hit the road to tide you over. Neither Hugh or Scott had anything for CDN lighting but that can wait for now. re: the Traction Avant, it's sitting at my place at the moment, but I've sold it so it will be moving on soon. It spun a bearing a year ago, and once we finally tore into the motor it turned out everything needed to be replaced due to wear and past abuse. At that point I hit the wall on what I was prepared to sink into the car (I was already in quite deep), and when a buyer turned up with a reasonable amount of cash I opted to bail out.
  9. Small world. I do recall seeing references to Agent 504 in Saskatchewan. Assuming nothing blows up tomorrow I'm planning to run the 604 on the Thaw this year. Scott did some additional fixing up for me so the car looks pretty good now. I've also touched base with Hugh on Keinan C's recommendation. No doubt he'll be a great reference, and maybe we'll be able to coordinate some Euro bumpers.
  10. Thanks Rabin. I didn't realize you knew Scott. It's actually his 604 I'm buying - '82 US spec with 5spd. If all goes well I'll have it tomorrow, and will post up some photos. Any particular conditioner you use? There seem to be several around.
  11. Hi to the forum. I'm hoping to pick up a 604 TD shortly, and wanted to see if there are any required changes to accommodate modern low sulphur fuel? Thanks in advance.
  12. Thanks for the quick response Rabin. I'm figuring this into the equation already. My hidden agenda is for Chris to buy the car, enjoy it for a year or two, fix all the little stuff, then pick it up from him fully sorted. Why do you think I volunteered to look at the car? Oops, did I just say that?
  13. Hi, I'm going to look at a local '86 Turbo for a friend tomorrow. Aside from the obvious 20-year old car things to watch for, are there any 505 or Turbo specific things to check? You know, those things that are either somewhat hidden or disproportionately expensive to fix? The ad doesn't have much to go on, but it's a 5-spd and supposedly runs well (don't they all). I understand the goal for the call is to do some 'light' sporting driving, e.g. schools, auto-X, TSD rallies, etc. So, cosmetics are less important than good mechanicals and foundation. Thanks in advance.
  14. So...no takers? We have a Renault and Citroen signed up, but need a Pug for the French trifecta.
  15. The CECC will be hosting a 1950s style competitive road rally in and around the backroads of Chilliwack on Saturday Sept.18th 2010. The Rallye du Chilliwack will test the navigation, driving, and observation skills of teams entered as well as their vehicles. It is open to owners of any European car from the 60s, 70s, and 80s which will be placed in one of four CECC classes. Navigators are strongly recommended, but expections can be made. In brief, each team (driver and navigator in an automobile) will be given a map with only a rough idea of certain check points. The teams are to locate the checkpoints, photograph themselves at the check points, and then meet at a final destination without being late. The team that navigates the best route (shortest miles) wins the rallye. There will be a nominal cost ($10-$15/team to cover event stickers/maps) and certain requirements (older European car, valid drivers lisence & auto insurance, working odometer, and digital camera). We would love to get a good turn out - so if interested, please me sooner than later. The cut-off for entry will be the end of first week of September. We have one Renault in the club but could use some more French content. Hope this is enough notice to allow some reasonably local people to make it out for a fun day. 16. Slightly more notice this time - Ironwood for May 6, around 8PM.
  17. Late update but the location today is Richmond/Ironwood again. Can't say how the turnout will be.
  18. Sure, a Benz would be fine. What year/model? I'm going to miss the meet on the 29th since I'll be doing last minute prep for the Spring Thaw cruise starting early Friday. I'll usually nominate the meeting location but since I won't be going I haven't set the spot this time. I'll post the location as soon as it's agreed. Or, you can check out the bcbimmers site and the 'Offishul Thursday Meat' thread, but you'll have to register to be able to read it. I should be around for the following week assuming the Canucks aren't playing that night.
  19. Understood. This is a relatively low key, weekly, local event so I was directing this mainly to any locals that wanted to go for a drive and talk cars. When we have a bigger meet I'll make a separate thread and give more notice. Since this one happens every week, any out-of-towners expecting to be in Vancouver on a thursday can post here or PM me ahead of time and I'll let them know the plan for that week.
  20. For April 22 we'll be meeting at Ironwood in Richmond (Steveston Hwy at No. 5 Rd). Since we finally have some good weather it would be great if a French car or two could make it out. People usually show up by 8pm.
  21. Thanks guys. Hope some of you can make it out some time. Bigger car or brand-specific meets are nice, but a) they always seem to take ages to organize and aside from the big boys like BMW, Porsche, etc., most marques don't seem to have the critical mass of older vintages to manage a regular meet on their own. Even the BMWcentric meet I regularly attend is starting to get overpopulated with newer models. I can do regular bumps of this thread to update the weekly location if there is interest. This week (April 1) I think we'll be at the Ironwood location in Richmond since the weather looks half decent. I did exchange a couple of messages with 85pugsti, but there could be a few other locals around.
  22. Hi all, I'm not a Peugeot owner at present but have lurked here for a while since I expect to own one at some point. A couple of car clubs I'm involved with meet every thursday in the Vancouver area. The cars are generally of the 70s to early 90s vintage. At the moment BMWs dominate, but I'm attempting to broaden the base a bit. Any Peugeot, or any European car from the 60s through early 90s for that matter is certainly welcome. The meet location does move although we have two favourite locations. When the weather is good we meet in Richmond at the Ironwood mall complex near Steveston Hwy and No.5 Road. When it is rainy we meet in East Vancouver at the Canadian Tire near 12th Ave. and Rupert St. Generally people arrive between 7:30 and 8:30PM. For specifics, you can check out the local forum www.bcbimmers.com, contact me through the club website at www.ClassicEuropeanCarClub.com, or just PM me. Hope some of you can make it out. Also, if anyone local would care to join the CECC or contribute some Peugeot content for the website just let me know. Thanks, Bruce
