  1. Congratulations with your new Peugeot transportation device.

Nice find! Peugeot is normally known for its cars off course, but they have produced almost anything that has steel in it. From sowing machines to guns, and from bikes to coffee grinders and all kind of tools. I has to said though that the car/bike division has been split off from the other divisions early 20th century allready. But they have been making metal product since 1810.

I myself have a pepper grinder and a toolbox from Peugeot apart from my cars.

  2. Indeed a pity that I didn;'t really enjoy it for what it is, a terrible good off-road car. On the other hand, Holland is flat as a pancake and everywhere are houses and roads. So in fact there is hardly any rough terrain to really test the car of its capabilities.

A rare car in the US is an understatement I think. Probably it will be the first Dangel in the USA. Moreover it's the only RHD Dangel in the world. Keep in mind that only 7500 Dangels were made of which most have had a terrible hard life and are scrapped or send to Africa. I'm pretty sure less than 100 Dangels exist in this good condition.

I don't know how inspection rules differ from US and Canada. But what I do know is that export to US and Canada stalled when a shipload of 200 405's was returned to France because they didn't meet the new rules of imported cars in Canada. They were sold in Holland afterwards. I've seen one or two of these 405's with the typical US-type small (but dutch) licenseplates on them.

But anyway, if you fit US-spec lights on it, it would pass the import I assume?

  3. Unfortunately I have overestimated my cash flow. After buying the GTDT automatic which I really want to keep as daily drive I am getting a bit low on cash. So I will sell it for it is the most expensive (and rare) car I have. If there is anybody among you who really want, this is your change! Although it might be too expensive for you because the US dollar is very low compard to the euro. I want 6000 euro for it to keep me out of costs.

  4. I have a lead for a 2.5 Intercooled diesel in France; buddy tells me its 130 hp (DIN)

Im planning on dropping it into my 82 Turbo diesel for more power. Can you post some underhood pics of that engine ?

I'll probably have to change a few things; it looks like from your pics the intercooler is where my expansion tank is.

Compared to the XD2 you have to move the expansion tank indeed, but that's all I guess. Basically it's the same engine, they only fitted a turbo and a intercooler to it. It should be not that difficult.

In all official document it is stated as an 110HP engine but with an massive torque, much higher than on my GTI with ZDJL engine (130HP). Really an engine to pull heavy trailers with. There is also a 125 HP version of this engine, but that was only fitted in the Citroen CX, some of them transformed by Tissier. I had two turbo's, but also often problems with leaking head gaskets due to the enormous power.

Really these are cars that were available in Europe in relatively large numbers. The vans were mainly used by distrubutors of newspapers. They would go up to 170 km/h which was a lot faster than ordinary vans in those days. That's why they were use to distribute foreign newspapers to the large european cities during the night. The first printruns were ready around midnight and during the night at high speed transported to other countries, making them available in the kiosks the next day already!

Due to this extreme work, most cars did crash during such a ride or the heads gaskets get leaking.

Here are different variations of these CX's, not handy in the city centres though:

  5. My collection is getting a bit out of hand, but this opportunity I couldn't refuse.

I love diesel engines and automatic gearboxes. But that combination in 505's is very rare to find in Europe. I've been looking for one in France and Holland since a few years, but never found one in good condition. A few weeks ago I tried german sites and immediately I found this car:

A 1987 GTDT automatic. So that's the one with the mighty XD3TE (110hp) engine. Being a peugeot diesel is has an incredible torque, comparable to the turbo's I guess: about 250Nm at 2000 rpm.

It has only done 117.000km or about 75.000 miles. Knowing the quality of these engines, I can drive it for many years to come. Only a few minor detaisl that could be fixed. But there is no rust, dents or scratches. Interieur is also very good.

Really a fantastic car to drive:

  6. Last saturday we had a combined 505 and 305 meeting in Holland. About 30 cars were present from Holland, Belgium and France in the extraordinary beautifull weather for oktober in Holland. Almost all models were present from the simple GL/GLD versions to an exclusive GTI Dangel (Only 7 built!)

    The 305's:

  7. your right, it was. the chap had it on ebay for a while but wanted ridiculous money for it if i remember correctly.

looks a lovely bit of kit! i bet it draws some attention!

Well, it wasn't such ridiculous money. The first time I saw it, he asked 3750 pounds, which is well over 5000 dollars I guess. Luckily I got it a lot cheaper because he had to get rid of it. Of course it was more expensive than a normal 505 wagon, but it is in fantastic condition and you pay also for the rarity. Only 7500 Dangels are build, mainly for governmental use. Only 3 RHD of which 1 survived!

But compare it to a restaured GTDT Dangel in France: They're asking 10.000 euro! (for sale at webmycar.com)

  8. Is that the 2165cc injection engine?

That's the one in my GTI and I can say it's really nice. You get very good around in modern daily traffic. It's quite powerfull with its 130hp and of much better quality then the N9TE I heard. I know a GTI that has done almost 300.000km without any repairs to the engine.

  9. Propane injection, I heard about this, but I'm not going to apply it. I did some modifications already which gives it a bit more power on the low rpm, but loses some on high rpm:

I modified the motor to run on vegetable oil. Sun flower oil I'm using at the moment. It has 3 benefits:

    - I don't have any CO2 emmission (the sunflowers takes the CO2 back from the air) so good for global warming.

    - The engine makes less noise, although a 604 is already very quiet.

    - In Holland sunflower oil is much cheaper than diesel

    - I'm no longer dependant on the Arabs for my fuel.

    Make that 4 benefits then!

  10. I still have dreams of "faking" a Dangel by putting my 83' 504 Wagon on a Toyota 4x4 truck frame...

Toyota reliability and aftermarket, and Peugeot cool...

Not as cool a REAL Dangel - but probably the closest I'll ever get.

    Rabin

That might be a good idea. Peugeot makes good engines, but Dangel doesn't make good four wheels drive systems. A lot of parts of the transmission are often worn out after 100.000 miles. Luckily at mine most Dangel stuff has already been replaced.

  11. Had anybody offer you cash for it yet?

Yeah, already. But he wanted to move the steering to the left hand side. I think that should not be done with such an rare version, so we had no deal.

I can't tell you a lot about the ride, it's now parked in a barn waiting for dutch number plates. But my brother in law, who drove it to Holland, was very pleased with the comfort on the highway.

What I know about the specs:

It has a 2 liter carburateur engine (XN2 maybe?) with 93.000 miles. 5 speed manual, four wheel drive of course with diff lock. It's really a terrain car, it has special high profile mud tyres, brand new! You don't really see it on this picture, but it has a lot higher ground clearance than for example a Landrover discovery.

I think each SUV looks small compared to this!

  12. Thanks,

Yeah, I earned too much money last year, so I had to buy some cars. lol :(

And I should not say this on the 505 forum perhaps, but the ride quality of the 604 is even better than the 505 I think.

Unfortunately these turbodiesels are a bit low on power, especially compared to the 505 GTI.

    505 GTI: 130hp, 1250kg

    604 SRDT: 80hp, 1500kg

That's quite a difference in accelaration. But the 604 is an ideal car to do long rides along the highway.
