I came back to catch up on the group and just saw this sad news. My deep condolences to all and he will be missed. I always enjoyed his photography.

I would add that it is also a nice lesson in symmetry.

Thanks Rabin, you're right about the 6.3...the same about the W100 600s. They are spectacular cars nonetheless, and very reliable as well, but when they need attention they can send you packing to the poorhouse.

This site can have some odd cars and then have some classics. Recent favorite of mine 1968 MB 280SE
Arun
After my 505 Turbo, after a few dry years of no project cars, I got a 72 280se 4.5...actually I got 2 (my first eventually became my parts car). The Turbo has better handling than the Benz but I daresay that power-wise, its a bit of a dead heat?

I remember when I used to dream about this car.
-
Very interesting..and has that rare option...the center console mounted light!
-
The sound of that R8! I was able to drive one and the level of refinement is just something else.

This is remarkable Arun...I saw the post on motoringconbrio and it just made me really miss my Turbo. Do you have a build thread for the hub conversion? I guess I'm back to scouring the net for a turbo or an STX!
p.s. I was pleasantly surprised at the sound the V6 makes, didn't know it could be a howler...any mods to the exhaust?

Our cars have several issues:
Too love a car like ours you have to be an independent thinker. This usually means we are also of the type to research, work on our own cars, things like that.
The master mechanics for our cars did not have a chance to pass on their knowledge. There are a few still in the game but not enough.
Our cars don't have SEX appeal that a Healey or XKE or whatever has. Thus no baby boomer are going to buy them at Barrett Jackson, no one is going to spend $50,000 to restore one and so on.
None of us are willing or able to ship our cars across the country of border to a specialist, like happens to Healey's or XKE's or whatever.
That is the only way a Peugeot specialist shop would survive today. It'd have to offer regular service, body repair, mods, restoration and so on. There jut aren't enough of us of that level to make it a go.
I plan to support those that support us as much as possible. I need a fuel pump for example. I can but it from any number of places but will buy from Brian, Javal or WH whenever possible. If we do not support them they won't be able to support us.
When its time for a engine rebuild mine will go to Nick in VT. Hopefully that is a long way off!
Speaking of Nick....Nick, did you by any chance buy the champagne coloured 505 Turbo that was for sale not too long ago.
Speaking as one who was in the fold but lost his Turbo tragically, I must say that I echo a lot of the sentiments here...I have seen articles on Tatra owners that drive across North America to Alaska...so I suppose 505 ownership has to step up a level into actual maintenance if the hobby is to be sufficiently preserved. I wish I could find a car in the condition mine was is...MINT I tell ya...maybe when I am done with my Mercedes projects I can give my attention back to my first love. I wish the parts availability was as good as old Benzes, its amazing how good the Mercedes classic center is when it comes to sourcing parts. It obviously means lots of $$$ but if you want it badly enough, you will get it. I saw a Turbo at the mechanics down the street and nearly fell down with shock they are so rare in TX...I walked over and asked if it was for sale...shop manager was a bit aloof so I just let it go...didn't even tell me what they were servicing it for...it stayed there for about 2 months.

It has been long, Rabin, but its not been that long since I checked in to see what you guys have been up to. I like your new Turbo by the way....I wonder how August is doing, he once gave me a control arm when I broke mine while I still lived in Socal....all I paid was shipping. Will always remember how grateful I was being a college student at the time. I remember corresponding with Trevor...good times.

Shows how long I've been away from this list......that is one nice Turbo. I was really missing my Turbo and saw this on Craigslist and asked for more info before I hopped here to see if anything was posted. Nice to see the fire burning!
Currently in the world of old Mercs (w108). Hopefully will find my way back into the fold!

You, sir, are a legend. Quite honoured.

Rabin, the doors appear to be GL versions for sure. Did you notice the side rearview mirrors, pre 86?
More like 1984-85 doors. Jeff
I noted the same thing...but that seems to me to be the only thing thats pre 86....however I am not sure if power windows were optional in the turbos...?
And the clock still works! Mine displayed all kinds of random stuff.

You, sir, are very fortunate to have that car. All the best in ownership and enjoy in good health!

Those wheels!!!

From elegant and measured, to obese and unsightly....Peugeot needs to get sleek and sophisticated back.
