  1. My 1986 Peugeot 2.5s TD auto-XD3T engine 100000 miles--new injector nozzles-air filter-Fuel filter-perfect interior- no rust-very good tires-service history-will need the hood touched up at some point. She doesn`t need emmission testing here in Seattle WA anymore owing to her age. I have posted several posts here on 505 turbo about her smoky `1st start of the day` but runs beautifully for all the start ups or travel thereafter. I have had various helpful suggestions boiling down to `get the injector pump timing set` which i am going to do shortly as it is a newer pump. If she doesn`t smoke on first start of the day after that i will probably keep her. Yes you can get parts! at least here in WA you can. I don`t know if we are allowed to just ask for offers on 505Turbo but correct me if i`m wrong. In the car prices book here Peugeot isn`t even listed! $1800? - Enough said!
  2. Here`s my little 86 2.5 TD - XD3T motor (US model made in France) --100 000 miles- pretty sweet transport
  3. Well my thanks as always, no i don`t have any wires on number 2 injector and that clears my mind a little so i`m not going to concern myself with the EGR stuff. I will get the injector pump timing set at the shop ($175) and be a happy man and Peugeot driver.
  4. Hi again, This is a follow on from my original post,`Peugeot 1986 505- XD3T engine 2.5 lt TD sedan--injector leak and cold start smoke` Well i`ve put the new nozzles and injector bodies back on, no leaks at all this time! I took off the `stupid` metal shield that completely surrounds the Purflux filter unit and pretty much stops you from doing a fuel filter change! I put in a new filter while i was doing that. New air filter also put in. I cannot get to the mounting bolts on the fuel pump housing to try and advance the timing a little. Put on a new v belt on the vacuum pump pulley.---Ok, so my original mission was to stop the smoke that happens on the 1st start of the day.She still smokes a lot on start up but runs much better after 5 minutes of warm up so i`m pretty happy about that! The one last thing i want to do before she goes up for sale is to clean/check the EGR system as i don`t think i can live with the smoke on start up!. I did suck on the pipe that runs to the EGR diaphram and the diaphram moves but maybe not enough (i`m guessing) I wanted to ask if it is possible to check the EGR layout and `carbon` build up when the unit is still in place without taking out the whole manifold and the other items? If i have the correct unit the EGR is the vacuum operating diaphram unit with a long rod running away from the front of the engine and vanishing into the manifold area. Any ideas on looking and cleaning the EGR set up please or a posting that deals with it?--Thanks --See picture of what i hope is the EGR and rod running to manifold
  5. Thankyou thankyou and thankyou, i am starting to understand my car. The word EGR has just been mentioned and yesterday i sucked on the pipe that runs to it, the diaphram moved a little but doesn`t look like a lot so i am posting a new post now to ask about EGRs and cleaning/checking them! thanks again
  6. Hi all- it`s me again with another no brain question! I don`t have a manual yet so in the meantime what are these 2 Pierburg `units` that sit above the manifolds a little behind the vacuum pump please, i can see they operate on vacuum and the one pipe goes to what i think is the `egr`(??) and one other question is that the right hand unit does not have a pipe attached to the bottom and i just don`t see a loose pipe that needs to go there!! Any comment on what are these 2 goodies and does anyone else have a beautiful car that has the same pipe layout with one missing at the bottom! If anyone wants to sell me a Haynes manual or similar i am a motivated buyer as they say on ebay -I am fitting my new injectors tomorrow and i`ve changed the filter on the horrible Purflux filter system and thrown away the cylindrical metal shield that would stop any sane person from doing a regular ` let`s change the filter` project. I`ve attached 2 pics of the `units` which i assume will stay attached when i post this little gem--Thanks
  7. Hi all, i have another post going on at the moment about leaking injector bodies and lots of smoke on start up but good running engine when warm, i have posted this `flushing` injector pump without removing it` as it is a separate operation but part of my task! Anyway, can you tell me if i can crank over the engine a couple of times to flush out anything in the fuel feed pipes or pump before i attach them back onto the injectors. I would have to put a container at the end of them to catch any diesel. Would there be any damage to the pump if it pumped diesel for a few seconds without being linked up to the injectors or anything else that i haven`t thought of?!
  8. Thanks all, i will check through all items mentioned and see if i can come up with a winner! Appreciate all the advice
  9. Thanks very much for the tips on my `leak` hassle from the new nozzles being put in at the shop. I have taken them back to the shop and they are going to double `check` as they said it was their responsibility. I will then fit them back in the engine to make sure that at least that bit gets done properly. I did think buying a pop tester and other bits was justified for a `one off` job. The whole reason for changing the injectors and glow plugs was to see why i have a `smoky ` start up when cold but perfect start up and running when she`s warm. If the new nozzles and glow plugs don`t do it then she`s up for sale! I am going to put up some pictures but can`t get the right angles as she is in my house garage. Thanks for welcoming me to the site, appreciate it --More to come!
  10. Hi, i`m a new member with an 86 Turbo diesel 505 2.5 lt sedan, i have had some great replies about problem injectors and my question from the above is ` what and where is the NTC and the same for the turbo boot?` please. I am going to sort out my injectors and if this doesn`t sort out my cold smoky start but runs great all day then she will also be in the `up for sale` column.--Thanks
  11. Hi, i`m new here but i`ve only just found the site 6 months after getting my Peugeot! Ok, so she is a 1986, 505 sedan, 2.5 lt Turbo diesel auto, love her to bits. I live outside Seattle WA and been in the USA 5 years. My question is--- i took out the injectors to get new nozzles which i supplied put in by a shop. I took them out for the shop cos not a lot of shops seem to appreciate Peugeots, don`t know what they`re missing! Ok, so they put in the new nozzles and pop tested to 150. I put the injectors back in the car with new copper washers and heat shield `washers`. Starts well and nice smooth running engine. I checked for leaks after a run and 3 of the 4 injector bodies are leaking from where the two halves of each body join together, not from where the injector joins the `block`. Makes me think that at least i did my part of the job right!---Ok, here goes THE question. ##Can i put a `wrench`on the bottom half of the injector bodies and another wrench on the top half of the bodies and give them a little tweak to tighten the two halves together without taking all the injectors out of the block again? ## I can`t be bothered to take them all out again and take them back to the shop and have to put in new heat shields and copper washers! The two halves of the injector bodies were torqued to +-50 ft lbs when they were put back together--Any comments welcome--Thanks--Jerro
