  1. 505turbo.com users,

Around seven years ago, myself (august) and a good friend (trevor) who were both into tuning 505 Turbo’s decided it’d be a good idea to register a domain, and put a website up dedicated to the car. Over time, we expanded the content a bit, and decided to put up a forum. The site has grown beyond anything we ever thought, and has attracted Peugeot fans globally. To put the growth into perspective, last month we received nearly 450,000 hits -- pretty crazy, eh?

Currently, since Trevor and I have both moved on from our Peugeot roots, we’re officially handing the website ownership, and all it’s content over to Rabin (bean). Rabin has been an admin essentially running all the backend duties on the forum for years now, and I have no doubt he will do a great job from here on out.

    UPCOMING CHANGES

During the hand-off, I will be migrating all the content to a different hosting provider, and will be performing a major upgrade to our forum software. Things will look a bit different -- some things may break, some may take some time to adjust to, but I’m pretty confident the new software will be an improvement overall.

To clarify -- the content on the forum and site will remain the same, it’s only the look and feel which will be different.

In the next few days we’ll begin the migration. The forum will be brought offline tomorrow evening (6-Apr 2011), and should be back and live again within a day or two (in technical terms: as soon as DNS changes propagate).

Please feel free to reach out to the webmaster @ 505turbo . com email address with any issues encountered. Rabin and I will continue to monitor that email alias.

    Best!

    ~August

  2. MEASURING BOOST PRESSURE

This measurement requires the following road test conditions

    • Engine at normal operating temp (make sure oil is warm along with coolant)
    • In 3rd gear, hold the car between 1500rpm and 2000rpm
    • Floor the accelerator pedal
    • Monitor the boost pressure between 3000 and 4000rpm, note the pressure, and compare to the chart below (the factory manual calls for measurement at 3k rpm which is too low for old turbo charging units IMO)

    N9T: 610 +/- 40 mbar (8.8 +/- 0.6 psi)

    N9TE: 620 +/- 40 mbar (9 +/- 0.6 psi)

    N9TEA: 780 +/- 20mbar (11.3 +/- 0.3 psi)

    N9TEA - CHECKING OPERATION

    • Disconnect the connector from the electro valve
    • Install boost pressure test gauge
    • Perform test (same test above for checking boost pressure)
    • Record values obtained as P1 (manual says ~0.5bar or ~7.25psi)
    • Reconnect the electrovalve connector
    • Perform test for boost pressure again
    • Record new values obtained as P2 (manual says ~0.8bar or ~11.6psi)

    --> If P2 > P1 -- boost monitoring is correct

--> if P2 is the same as P1 -- boost pressure monitoring is incorrect

If boost pressure monitoring is incorrect, check:

    • Check continuity of wires 2 and 2D
    • Check diode (wires 2A - 2C) between pins 1 and 2 of electrovalve
    • Check the hoses and circuit taps within the hose routing for: dirt, oil build up, ice at the restrictors

Scans of these pages in the manual will be attached shortly....

  3. We have recently launched our new photo gallery which will host site collected images, as well as forum user's images.

Simply PM a gallery admin (bean & webmaster) and ask for a user account. Your user account will allow you to create a photo album so you can upload images of your car.

The image upload process is very easy, and even supports uploading multiple images in a zip archive. Bean and myself are here to answer any questions, so don't hesitate to ask :(

    enjoy!

  4. 2007 was a very slow year for this project, nothing really happened except for moving the car and all the parts to a new home 1000 miles away.

It's starting to roll again though: getting parts cleaned, taking the exhaust&intake manifold to the machine shop for some cleaning and minor work.

Fitting the T04 has been more work then I was expecting, but not bad overall. The compressor housing is a bit bigger so I've been trying to get everything to clear, lots of griding / cutting :(

I've got the turbo + test manifold bolted to a template head, and finally got everything clearing nicely today. Took some pictures with my camera phone (below).

I'm going to start looking to injectors after the final cylinder head and turbo are in place.

  5. Ok, we'll look into something.

Invision (this forum software) makes a gallery suite, which would hopefully integrate nicely into the forum.

The alternative would be to use a free (preferred) solution such as Gallery2 from menalto (http://gallery.menalto.com/). I'm not sure how the user structure would work though. It'd be great if you could login to Gallery2 with your 505turbo.com forum logins, and upload/post/whatever that way.

We are open to whatever, whatever sounds best to you guys we'll consider. If any of you are feeling energetic and want to check out some pro's or con's about either solution mentioned above, or have any other ideas please let us know.

Disk space isn't an issue. We currently have 200+ gig's available. If you guys can upload 200gigs of Peugeot photo's I'll be so happy buying a TB drive won't be an issue :)

  6. What's the plan?

To write new articles from scratch, submit posts from the forum, or write new articles using posts from the forum?

    I would probably say:

    1. Convert internal (505turbo.com) info such as articles, and resources (505 spring data for example) as much as possible

    2. Collaborate with other sources on centralizing all this data into our wiki

How does that sound? Any way we do it is cool with us, we just want to see the thing get use (both from viewers as well as contributors).

We should also talk about requirements / what all do we want? pdf support? maybe flashpaper integration?

I know there are a lot of resources in pdf format, so should we try to convert that to web / wiki searchable data for easy findings, or should we keep them in pdf's but put in verbose keywords for easy findings.

Just some things to throw out there to discuss.

Also, if any of you have experience with wiki's or kb's, feel free to chip in. I'm either thinking mediawiki or phpkb. Not sure which one will suite our needs best in this situation though. :D

  7. Hey all, what do you think about setting up a wiki for upcoming articles and HOWTO's.

I thought it might be a cool idea so you can all contribute. If you have something you'd like to document, add it to the wiki.

I guess to start off, does anyone have experience using a wiki (or know what a wiki *for*)?

    What do you all think?

  8. Yeah, I like those 505 videos, and all, but.....

this is my favorite one (warning:extreme profanity and themes)

DONT WATCH THIS IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE TO EXTREME PROFANITY, AND RUDE THEMES

THIS IS "R" RATED. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxx

norcal505: I don't see the relation between the video you just posted and Peugeot's, or this thread in any way possible. Please keep your content on topic from now on.

  9. Alright, the few things we've setup seem to be working well.

If there are any other breakdowns in the future please do email us (thanks Johnny), as there are times we check email more frequently then the forum.

  10. It's been something we've been dealing with for a few months now. I'm sure some of you have noticed a few posts here and there, but they are usually deleted, and the users are banned right after registration is complete and the first post is on the forum.

Over the last week this has been getting more and more out of control, and of course last night was the worst. All the posts are gone and users are banned, but I'm planning on getting something setup this AM to try to prevent this from happening again/as much.

Big apologies all. And thanks for the E-Mail Johnny.

  11. Do you guys have any detailed pics of the entire car?

Great work in the blog too! I posted elsewhere as well - but pricing for the mods would be most appreciated.

Can't get over how nice that rad is - VERY sweet bit of craftsmanship!

Nah, no pictures of the entire car as it's in lots of pieces, and torn apart in the garage. Once it's running again we'll post some pictures.

The radiator is nice, except they kinda messed it up, and i haven't got the fixed one back yet. We'll post pictures once we get it.

    Prices:

    - radiator ~$1000

    - turbo ~$500

What cam are you going to use? Danielson?

Using a stock cam reground to Danielson Specs.

Are you guys sure that the old LU-jet is up for the challenge?

Or maybe you're going to find out just that with the wideband o2?

We want to try to work with the stock system and kinda see what's possible. The wideband is the first step ;)

BTW, Do you guys know if there's any difference in the exhaust housing for the N9TE and N9TEA turbo?

The T3 turbine housings? Yeah, the N9TE is a .36 A/R, and the N9TEA is a .48 A/R. The turbo used on the new project car is a .48 A/R (for sure!) :D

  12. We've just launched a blog which shows some of the things we've done so far to the new car. Keep an eye on this blog as we will continue to post any future changes we've made to the car.

    http://www.505turbo.com/86505/blog/

We're really hoping to have this car done soon, but it's once again time and budget limited. Some of the things that are on the future list:

    - Put the engine back together (uuh, yeah)

    - fmic

    - Wideband o2

    - Engine tuning and LU-Jetronic (dare I say optimization? ;))

Once the engine is done and running well, we should be moving on to suspension / brakes (not sure which will come first).

As always, enjoy, and any constructive feedback is welcome!

  13. What happened to this site yesterday? Whas it some kind of server shutdown because of maintenance or?

Because when I tried to view www.505turbo.com all I got whas disney onlines homepage :).

We had some issues with traffic redirection. Welcome to hosting sites on an experimental server :)

    (Regarding the post on Peugeot-L)

Huge apologies everyone. This site isn't going anywhere anytime soon. We'll be handing it off to someone else before it gets shut down by us if it ever comes to that. We'd really like to keep all of this valuable information alive for all 505 enthusiasts that are still out there.
