Mike T
Jim Schlick, a long time friend of Peugeot fans everywhere (I had known him for more than twenty years) passed away earlier in 2022. Jim was a very generous, affable guy and a prodigious collector of Peugeots, with fifteen cars. Jim's collection of Peugeot parts, memorabilia and cars has been under the auction hammer already, with the less "collectible" cars (206, 405, 605, 406C) and poorly catalogued random parts lots having already been sold off in mid- November. I and some other Peugeot collectors were able to secure some of the parts lots, but at least one parts reseller named T. Gibson bought some others at 5 cents on the dollar and the lots he got are up on eBay at the moment at "aspirational" prices. An example being the Peugeot 204 Cabriolet hardtop he paid $50 plus auction fees of 15% for and has listed at $1000 on eBay right now. The stuff that Jeff Ray, Chad Hagen and I plus other fans bought will be used in our own cars or saved for other Club members or enthusiasts, and not marked up 20 times if resold. Since we are all Peugeot fans here, it's important that we all have a solid crack at some of Jim's treasures, as opposed to flippers and resellers. The way auctions go, sometimes there are good deals to be had on rare machinery, cutting the scalpers and other profit takers out of the picture. The next auction will happen in January and although the lots have not been prepared in the listing below yet, it's likely to include: Peugeot 403 Sedan Peugeot 403 Station Wagon Peugeot 403 Cabriolet Peugeot 204 Cabriolet Peugeot 404 Sedan Automatic Peugeot 404 Station Wagon Peugeot 404 Coupé Injection Peugeot 404 Cabriolet Injection Peugeot 205 GTI https://kraftauctions.hibid.com/auction/375897/46th-anniversary-antique-and-collectible-auction---weekend--2/?fbclid=IwAR3NR_8YdkLqN8zuOqxWDK9tW7cnx3Lzpfjui_8kHhlTzQy_dLjf8xWIs7c There is a thread on the Peugeot of North America Facebook page about this, if you're interested. PSchlick
I'm Jim Schlick's brother Paul. I found my way here to make sure you knew that the last 10 of Jim's Peugeots are currently on auction but found that Mike T has it covered. The lots including his Peugeots close on Sat. Jan 21. Thanks to Mike for his nice comments about Jim. I know he had many Peugeot friends in Canada. Jim was in a serious auto accident in early 2014 that restricted his mobility. He was able to make do and still live alone but wasn't able to drive a manual after that so most of the cars (and his Harley) sat unused in what we called the 'pole barn'. We would get several out for his annual October 'car show' (really just an excuse to socialize and look at cars), in honor of his late wife Pam, for display and to make indoor space for people to gather but they weren't driven on the road and a few hadn't moved in years. I'm sure you know that older Peugeots take a fair amount of TLC and these will as well. The auction descriptions tell which have run recently and which have not but all at least turn over. The estate executor and family decided to sell them as is rather than spend the time and money on mechanics to bring them up to roadworthy condition. I have attached some photos of what his collection looked like in recent years and a photo of Jim (on the right) with Steffen Moller, and me that was taken in the pole barn in 2012. Also FYI, the red 204 cabriolet on auction was the focus of a 2006 Hemmings article that gives background on how Jim & Pam became Peugeot collectors: https://www.hemmings.com/blog/article/gallic-bred-peugeot I'm pleased that some of you were able to get some of his parts inventory and sorry to hear that others ended up on eBay at high prices. Hopefully, the cars will go to people who really appreciate them. And thanks to anyone who reads this who knew Jim. He got a lot of satisfaction out of his Peugeots and much of that was from interactions he had with you and other Peugeot fans. Hope your year is off to a great start! Paul Schlick Minnesota I don't know if I'm posting this where people will see it. If not, move it to a better spot.
Mike T
The auctions ended today and the results were a bit above actual market value in most cases. A couple of the cars were very rough indeed, notably the 403 Cabriolet and 404 Cabriolet. A mint 403 Cabriolet would be worth nearly $100K USD but this one was probably worth 25K and that's roughly what it sold for. Similarly, the 404 Cabriolet Injection would be worth close to $70,000 USD if mint but it sold for less than the 404 Coupé Injection, which was in better condition. I took screenshots of the closing bids of the older classics plus the 406C:
Mike T
Most of these classics are going to a single new owner in California. The red 204C is going to a new owner in Chicago.
