Hey guys, have a pretty interesting update...

I found out regrettably that the gentleman I bought my Mi16 from years ago had passed away a couple months ago. He was a really nice guy, and a friend I never would have made were it not for our mutual affection for Peugeots...

I'll spare all the details of this story, but basically, I spoke to his son, and I'll be getting the remaining 2 Peugeots he still had, a '90 Sportwagon S, and another Mi16. I was at the house today to confirm a lot of the details, so now working to arrange transport of the cars back to Buffalo. Here's some shots of them...

Early plans are to really give the put wagon a deep clean and going over and then put it on the road, as it runs and drives quite nicely. The red Mi16 has an ignition issue, and is not running at the moment. Not sure how deep or when I'll dive into that car (if ever?), but time and circumstances will tell. Perhaps it will just be a nice and complete parts car for me...

Updates to follow when all the garage work is complete, so stay tuned...

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and a fellow Peugeot enthusiast.  It’s nice to hear you were able to save the cars as I’m sure the owner would be happy they’re going to a good home.

As for the cars themselves - the obvious conclusion for me is an Mi-16 Sportwagon…. :)

Both cars seem like they’re in decent shape, sounds like it’s win-win no matter what you decide.

SRDT, thanks, I haven't a clue what the ignition issue is, that's just what his son was told by him, but I'll keep this in mind whenever I have a go at it...

Bean, an Mi16 sportwagon definitely sounds like a good idea, but this SW actually runs quite well (car only has around 137K miles), so I'm going to ride it out this way at least for a while. It does however have an Mi16 transmission though, which is pretty cool (the only thing on the car that is modified), and with the shorter gearing, actually has nice response. I like how stock it is, at least for now...

The red car is the wildcard here. With all the cars we already have, there's hardly a need for a second Mi16, but having a whole/complete parts car can never be a bad thing. And that's a worst case scenario, so I suppose whatever direction I go, it's a good problem to have...

Joe, sorry to hear about your friend passing away. Both cars are nice spec and in decent condition, but in my opinion the red Mi16 is much better specification with the black dash, and the paint looks to be in better condition. Also the 16v engine is much livly engine, the wagons are cool in their own way but 8V engines just don't have the sound and high end power of the Mi16 engine. Ignition issues on a Mi16 is pretty simple to diagnose and cheap, they are old style distributor and single coil system. You can probably get it going with the old parts you've replaced from your white Mi16.

I can understand liking the 8V with close ratio trans and it looks like the wagon has already gotten some upgrades like the Mi-16 wheels and steering wheel - the 8v probably has better low end torque, so daily driving it likely does quite well without having to wring it out.

I love Wagons - so I'd save that one for sure no matter how you do it.

Goce, looks can be deceiving, the paint on the red car has nice shine, but it has been touched up in the rear I'm quite sure, so while the tan wagon may look a bit dull, it is at least all original and should polish up nicely.

Bean, I agree, and good eye noticing the wheels and steering wheel updates to later Mi16 specification. The wagon will be used for summer daily driving with my wife and daughter. No need for speed, would just like to make a nice driver out of it, and I don't think it will take too much to do so...

Well gentlemen, I picked up the cars today...

For starters, the red car that was thought to have an ignition problem, well that was a complete misunderstanding. Turns out the battery wasn't connected, ha. This was never communicated to me until this morning. After connecting the battery, the car fired right up and drove just fine. I was thrilled to see this, because no matter what I do with it, at least it runs and drives and can be easily moved around...

The wagon I actually drove home, over 100 miles (we had a tow dolly for the red Mi16), and it ran/drove amazingly. I can't wait to start cleaning it up and then get it on the road...

More updates to follow, but a few pictures from today...

Hey guys, have had some time to get to know these cars over the last couple days, and got to cleaning them up really well (mostly the wagon, the red Mi16 just got an interior clean so far), and early observations are pretty good.

Really excited for the SW, would like to get it over to my paint guy for an assessment of some scale on the bottom of some doors, but overall it's in really nice shape. Want to give it a thorough mechanical lookover, but that might take some time to do so. Either way, big things ahead for the SW, but it will mostly end up being a mechanical restoration over time, and keep it nice cosmetically. It's a great driver...

Jury is still out on the red Mi16. It could be a nice car if I do the body work from whatever rear end accident damage it once must have had, but that's a big commitment cost-wise. It is in amazing shape otherwise though, extremely clean underneath. And it's a '92, can't be but a few that made it to the US in that model year. Probably the only one left too. Either way, in the meantime, it's cleaned up and parked in my overflow garage...

I love wagons - and that one looks really great.  Glad to see it’s going to get some love and be made even better!

Borderline cars like the red Mi-16 or the toughest - Too good to be a parts car, and not quite good enough/pricey to make really good.  My personal justification for something in that niche is to assess it as a daily/winter/workhorse or fun car to beat on for track days or something cool.  That way it can be driven without remorse and possibly fast track it a little to parts car status over time.

Bean, these are all fair thoughts. The cars will both be going on the road soon to allow a better assessment of both, but I'm definitely going to be taking the red car to my paint guy for him to give me a quote on doing everything right. Maybe it's less than I think...

Gentlemen, have spent the last few days organizing and cataloging all the spare parts I got with the 2 new cars. I also got a shipment from the former mechanic who worked on my friend's cars, and he was actually a Peugeot dealer tech back in the 80's. Came across some really cool stuff I thought you all would appreciate...

Hey guys, little update on the 2 new cars...

After much thought I decided to register and put them both on the road.

The tan wagon is something I really look forward to getting fully mechanically sorted (pretty much just needs a fpr and exhaust), and then just drive. It's really a very nice car, and while the paint has faded in some spots, it's a solid car, what I would call patina-enhanced survivor...

The red Mi16 is the wildcard here. It actually drives quite nicely, and is very well mechanically sorted (save for a small exhaust leak somewhere). Turns out whatever accident it had in the rear years ago, doesn't really seem to have been that bad. I'm going to try my hand at some home bodywork/paint, and see how it turns out. But this car might just end up being a really nice one in the end after all, as opposed to just a parts car - stay tuned...

Nothing to be jealous of, sounds like you are well on your way to having the same thing, aren't our cars more or less clones of one another? Let me know if you get hung up on anything, we have gone pretty far through this one to get it where it is. I don't (but probably should) even think much about breaking down when I drive it anymore...

Hey guys, hope you all had a nice summer, been a while since an update...

The white '91 Mi16 continues to be a great driver, took it to many cars and coffee events this summer, as seen below with my friend's R17 Gordini. It still needs the oil temperature / oil level gauge to be be fixed, but I've kind of put that on the back burner for now, since I've confirmed correct temperatures with my infrared thermometer...

The tan '90 Sportwagen is going to be my winter project this year. I've driven it a lot lately, and it runs and drives excellent, however it can be tough to start at times, and it needs some attention to the exhaust system, as well as a bunch of deferred maintenance items, ie. timing and accessory belts, plugs, etc.

The red '92 Mi16 is likely going to sit a while until I get the tan wagon where I want it, as well as catch up on some other projects. It runs and drives just fine however, so there is no real need to do anything with it, other than drive it from time to time and keep fuel running through it.

I'll post updates/pictures on the SW once we get going on it, hopefully by Thanksgiving...
