Larry Reinecke
Selling my friend's Peugeot collection for his widow. 2 diesel cars, 604 with engine installed (was running when it was parked in the shop a couple of years ago...), and a 505 with the engine removed. Includes (2) diesel engines in the shop (minus the stands), many, many extra parts and a good selection of manuals. Asking $2700.00 for the whole collection. I am no Peugeot expert by any means, so please peruse the photos I have included and feel free to ask any questions and I will do my best to provide reasonable answers. I'm really hoping this collection can go to someone who will appreciate it! Reasonable offers considered. Thanks, Larry

Bean
Thanks for the location Larry. I'm assuming the 505 is a parts car for the 604 as it looks like it'd be a lot of work to save. The 604 however looks in amazing shape. It would be ideal if you could take pictures to verify it's rust free. It should also be a 5sp, but the year would help figure out what motor should be in it. Head should have a casting number on it saying XD2 or XD3. Thanks, Rabin
Larry Reinecke
Rabin, The 604 is a 1982 model. I stopped by this evening, but couldn't get the hood open by myself because it didn't want to pop up on its own when I pulled the hood release. It was too dark out to get good pictures of the wheel wells of the car, but I was able to get a decent look at it and could not see any rust. Known issues with this car: driver's door doesn't want to open, the linkage is messed up somehow, brakes are quite draggy at the moment, battery is totally dead, even with a charge it didn't want to turn the starter or run the power windows. Yes, it is a 5 speed. As to the 505, to the best of my knowledge all it needed was a running engine to be road-worthy. The paint on that car has a few issues, but I haven't spotted any obvious body damage. It is my intention to sell both cars, the parts, engines and manuals as a complete lot, rather than try to break up the collection. Thanks for you interest, and I will try to get some better pictures of the engine in the car as well as the two in the shop for identification purposes. Bean
Hi Larry - thanks for the update. 1982 likely means a XD2S Turbo diesel (2.3L) with a Bosch VE injection pump. As for more pictures: If you can take pictures of all 4 lower door seams, both side of engine compartment, dog legs inside rear doors, and inside trunk without the matt or carpet - that should show how rust free the car is. I wish I was in the market as I have a beautifully running 1986 505 TD 5sp that would make that 604 right. I did forward it to a friend though who might be interested. wadehilts
Little update on this treasure trove: I am rescuing this 604 and the parts stash next weekend! 604 has since sat outside for 2 years but it will be restored and brought back to life! Bean
Good to hear Wade! Is this the first time you’ve posted on the forum? Glad to finally have you on here. Keep us posted on the car and the stash. Have any of the other cars been rescued? Rabin
wadehilts
I had an account and posted years ago, but it may have been thru my old email address.. The other cars are definitely in rough shape, there is an 82 diesel in the stash with no engine, and then a later model intercooled turbo wagon. Both have been outside and are pretty hammered, but don't seem to be beyond reclamation. When we get the stuff on Friday, we will probably be only able to take the 604, the two XD2S's and then a big chunk of the parts/manuals. I'll keep y'all posted! yhzman
Looking forward to hearing of your adventures... I always wanted to have a 604 TD 5 speed. Only ever test drove one in Edmonton, Alberta many moons ago. Even back then that one had its' fair share of rust if I remember correctly (it may have been at Pioneer Motors). Bean
Funny - In high school I drove from North Battleford Saskatchewan to Pioneer Motors in Edmonton just to go to an actual Peugeot repair shop. When I got my first 86' 505 Turbo in ~1994 the front strut perch rusted out. Called Pioneer and found out there was a 10yr/100K mile extended warranty and Julio sent me 2 new strut housings for free! I still have them - I took the rusted out struts apart and welded the perch back and reassembled. Rabin
wadehilts
UPDATE: We got the car back to my place last week. Big thank you to Rick Patston for helping me out with his trailer. We got the 2 XD2S engines, the 604 and as many parts as we could grab. I like the old school glass bowl filter, so I installed it. Mysteriously the car started up immediately with NO fuel filter. I quickly put one in and primed the system. Diesel looks remarkable for sitting for a few years. Added some diesel purge and tank cleaner nonetheless. It took me hours just to get all the doors unfrozen. Tragically they were all locked when parked, so if the lock lever wasn't operable it required careful door card surgery to access the linkages. Rear passenger linkage assembly was damaged by me forcing the lock mechanism, but Hugh Logie has a spare one for me! Next on my list is to finish overhauling the entire brake system and the clutch hydraulics. Then I'll need to do a coolant flush, belts and an oil change. Electrics inside the car will need some inspection too. At that point, I'll at least be ready to take it for a spin around the block and see how the engine does under load. When the car first starts up it makes a squeak/chirp from the rear of the engine - but it goes away after a bit of running. Doesn't appear to be coming from rocker shaft and the engine looks clean in the valve cover, might be Turbo or pilot bearing? I'm gonna drive it for a bit before worrying too much about it. There's a little bit of rust, but nothing terrible that I've seen thus far. Wheel arches seem solid in the trunk. Needs a lot more washing and interior cleaning. Apparently it's an 81 (according to Brian Holm, all 81 604s were labeled 82s) based on the fact that it has the older XD2S rendition (which Brian Holm says is better) and the greaseable ball joints. wadehilts
UPDATE: The 82 604 turbo diesel is up and running now! Had a lot of stuff to sort thru after it sat for 2 or 3 years outside. Rebuilt brake booster, all brake components, new blower motor, rebuilt vacuum pump, power steering hose, all electronics cleaned and tested, a couple vacuum servos replaced. About 2 gallons of white lithium grease and contact cleaner got the door mechanisms and electrical all working Injectors leak a bit but the car doesn't smoke at all and runs very well, the torque really churns thru that 3000 lb frame. Still working on getting the vacuum controls for the front passenger door lock to work. Anyone have experience with those? There's some sort of spring that pulls the lock mechanism but will give up and release if a certain (seemingly pretty damn low) amount of resistance is encountered. Also, I love that they have 5 relays dedicated to rolling up the windows and sunroof if you hold the drivers key in the lock/unlock position... If only they would have had those switches that always get dirty (because they're switching 5000 Amps to those overbuilt window motors) use the relays too! Unfortunately this week the throwout bearing crapped out on me. So I'm gonna need to pull the XD2S and replace the clutch kit. While I'm at it, I think I'm going to tune an XD3T and drop it in. I'm going to make another thread about that
