Edit: Rebuilding the engine myself -86 505 Turbo 180bhp version (big restauration)

Hello people.

From 2000-2002 I was 16-18 and I had a 505 GTI -86 modell sedan for both practice driving and after I got my license (we get to take it when we become 18 here in Norway). I had a lot of fun with the GTI, and loved the car, but was 18 and needed something else and traded a couple of times until I ended up with my first Alfa Romeo (that I still have).
Since then I´ve always wanted a Turbo Injection, but never really had the opportunity (or priority) to buy one when they were for sale. And for sale they were extremely rare. Maybe only 2-3 times that I could see for all those years.
But it 2015 I was offered a complete project car for about 350 USD (or 3000 Norwegian kroner) by its first owner that bought it in 1986. This equals to some kind of mortgage that the customs gives back when we wreck the cars, so I in a way got the car for free. Then it was impossible to say no, and the car was only 45-50 minutes away from me.
But the car didn't run, and it was plenty of rust, AND it had not been on the road since 2002. But anyway, I´ve now finally got my 505 Turbo!! And its a 176C engine in it, which means its the 180bhp version!

Currently, the car is being welded and getting all other bodywork done through some previous colleges of mine from Lithuania. I myself am going to build the engine (as that is where I shine, and not with bodywork). My goal is to have a really nice looking turbo, with about 300-350 bhp or maybe even more in the future (if its possible to get H-beam rods not to expensive, and that the crank already is forged and nitrided from factory?).

And here are some pictures from the car, and work done until now. I guess most people would never started on a car like this!! But since I got it so cheap, I´m willing to give it new life!

Wow!   Ambitious resto that makes me feel REALLY good about the future rust work my life 505 TD wagon needs!

As for the motor - Tama and V-M's Saab B202 rods and Volvo B21 pistons sounds like the best bet so far - but I'm fairly close to seeing if another combo works - but I need to part out one of my engines and take the crank to a machine shop first.

Thats hard work!  Respect! I have put in parts better condition turbo chassis than that. This latest one which I'm selling is far better in chassis side. If you need special parts for engine or chassis let me know (dani head, cam, rockers and full sets).

I'll remember that. Are you btw the same person that sent me a bracket for securing the ignition distributor? From Finland?

Actually, my car didn't even start, and there is a possibility that it is a rod knock in it as well. So it's definitely a big project. And with standing outdoors for 15 years, not much electrical was working either.

Btw: how much for the complete Dani head? And what's the specs on them regarding cfm flow on intake/exhaust, valve lift and sizes, duration of cam etc?

And if you know, what are the flow on the standard head?

I know the questions may be a bit technical, but I figure you might be the guy that actually knows ;)

Alfanatiker, very interesting project, and a rare model, i've been keeping an eye open for a 505 turbo and could not find a complete car at all, most of them are diesel swapped or are seized engine and much rustier than you car, best advice i can give you is spent some time and money in rust protection, things like filling the rocker panels with engine oil, waxing the inside of the frame rails, is very important, as for the electrics in my experience those cars have quality wires and connectors, no sirius electrical issues, start by checking the fuses, main battery cables grounds and everything should work.

Wires are nice quality, but the connectors are terrible.   They're unsealed so invariably they are corroded and have to be cleaned and usually sealed with dielectric grease or something similar.

I'd be happy to send you one, but shipping would be very costly since I'm in Canada.  I would message V-M to see if he has a usable one as I would imagine it would be much cheaper.

Let me know either way.

What would shipping be? I´ve messaged V-M, and also earlier about other things. But he unfortunately doesn´t really seem that active.

I belive you where the same guy that also could send me the bracket for holding my distributor, had it not been for that V-M was able to help me there? :)

No idea exactly how much - I just know they are very heavy, awkward shaped, difficult to pack and shipping anything international from Canada is very expensive.  My only reference is sending a diesel injection pump to Australia and it was $130 CDN.  A crank to Norway would likely be $500 or more.

I will admit I'm bad for trying to help and getting bogged down with cold weather and other projects - and a bad memory as I have no recollection of the distributor hold down.  :) First question I'd ask about the distributor hold down bracket is why not just adapt one from another car or make the bracket?  It's a very simple piece that would be easy to make or adapt.  Not all worth getting one from overseas.

I think you misunderstood. Regarding the distributor bracket a couple of years ago... you told me that you may have, but also told me to ask V-M first. I asked V-M, he had, and he sent me. No worries about that. You did actually help ;)

500 sounds insane. Even shipping something from Norway should be cheaper :D
And btw, it would be needed in Lithuania, as that is where my car is at the moment

Sorry - I misunderstood and thought I was supposed to send you the distributor bracket.  No wonder I had no memory of that.  :D  Glad I was some help.

V-M is the only one I know close to you that would have the spares you need.  I'll do some rough checking online to see what kind of price sea freight would be to Lithuania, but I'm guessing it will still be pricey.

Unfortunately I only know how to contact V-M through the forum so hopefully a private message gets his attention if you haven't sent one yet.

I'm here, not so active but trying ;) I have answered in pm. Sending is costly for those heavy parts for private person but I'll have a look. Luckily I have 2 extra cranks.

Sending is 100-150e roughly, depending how strong and heavy package gets.
