Double02
My '81 604TD has a mystery coolant leak. It appears to be coming from near the area of the water pump, and while it isn't a huge leak, it isn't tiny either. On returning from a drive, I don't see any sign of dripping, but invariably, when I go to check the next day there's a 6" diameter puddle. The system doesn't leak with a pressure tester, and holds pressure with minimal drop overnight. Hoses all seem to be in good condition. I do have a new water pump but wanted to check for any tips before I start randomly swapping parts. Thanks.
Bean
Water pumps in general will leak from the weep hole when running, but can stop leaking when not rotating. Holding up to presure test is puzzling - do you know what pressure the system is at while running? Bad cap could overpressurize system. I'd also recheck all hose clamps for tightness, as well as hose ends for condition of hoses if they come off. How's the car otherwise?
