Window Tinting

I want to tint the windows in the 85 wagon. My 88 turbo wagon from Florida had them, and it really set it apart. I heard that it can be a DIY project. Plus it might be nice when traveling on the road. I heard the hardest thing is dealing with trapped air bubbles. I also need to investigate the different shading gradients. Has anybody been there and done that?

Hi Bill - up here it costs ~$300 to do a wagon, and when you consider the higher grade tint, tools, and experience - for me it's a job worth paying for.

Tint % ratings are the percent light that it allows through. Limo tint is usually 5%, most people here do 20% on the back windows and since front side windows are illegal to tint too dark - 35% will be used on the front side windows.

When I was a kid my brother tried tinting his windows himself and they looked aweful!

If you're set on it, then I'd suggest finding good quality tint, and I would find some good how-to videos on YouTube to give you hints on how to best tackle the job. With some effort you can likely do a very nice job.

i always bring my cars to the same place to get tinted...the guy there told me that the technique was very important, but the biggest advantage that the professionals have is that the tinting material they use is better than what you get from auto parts stores, etc. not only does it go on better, but it resists fading much better so your tint doesn't turn purple after a few months or years. i would imagine that some internet research would be in order to find the higher quality materials.

btw, my guy also charges around US$300.
