  1. I got the bleed done, no leaks at the new unions (under low pressure, see below), and a bubble-free bleed.... that's the good news. The bad news is there is no pedal pressure, so the NOS master cylinder must be shot. That'll come out next weekend.
  2. I saw a 504 Dangel and a separate chassis on display in 1980 at the Salon d'Auto in Paris. Impressive car.
  3. Nice, they made some Dangel SW cars with only 59 HP? I would have thought 70 at least! Should go better with the TD drivetrain!
  4. I chopped a small bit of a finger tip off on Christmas day when peeling potatoes (!) so had to let it heal before commencing garage work. This meant the week after Xmas, which I had off as holiday, was therefore a bust for 404C work. However, today I made the last of the new brake lines, version 2.0, and installed it. Next weekend I will attempt a bleed and hope to move onto the next stage: engine reassembly.
  5. Listings are up: https://kraftauctions.hibid.com/catalog/375897/46th-anniversary-antique-and-collectible-auction---weekend--2/?q=peugeot&ipp=100&fbclid=IwAR3zMYHq4jklzmRfMFPNKkMgdfuagNI2Z8Urh3Flw5HgweboweEmxfm-O6g
  6. Gauge sender and low pressure trigger, with ground to engine block.
  7. Today this arrived from Europe: an FAE Spanish-made modern oil pressure gauge sending unit, for use in my Jaeger sports instrument panel. That'll be added after the car's on the road at some point.

  9. Well, it's a bit of a mystery. I'll just keep it for....I don't know what.
  10. Yes it is, and someone told me it's from a Peugeot J7. It's a very nice piece. I don't think J7 collectors would pay much for it.
  11. The Carello 404 Coupé license plate light arrived today. Minty new. It cost me 95 Euros including postage to Canada from Italy. Actually the seller paid 26.90 EUR for the postage! There was something rattling around inside the package, which was inside the light - see the 3rd photo for details of what it was.
  12. Chad Hagen sent me these photos today of the stuff I got for $62. I think these may be SEV Azur wiper blades for the 404 404C OEM Wiper blades, SEV Azur Driving light trim for 1967-68 404C grille Headlight rings for 404C (4) NOS 2 CIPA rearview mirrors
  13. Jim Schlick, a long time friend of Peugeot fans everywhere (I had known him for more than twenty years) passed away earlier in 2022. Jim was a very generous, affable guy and a prodigious collector of Peugeots, with fifteen cars. Jim's collection of Peugeot parts, memorabilia and cars has been under the auction hammer already, with the less "collectible" cars (206, 405, 605, 406C) and poorly catalogued random parts lots having already been sold off in mid- November. I and some other Peugeot collectors were able to secure some of the parts lots, but at least one parts reseller named T. Gibson bought some others at 5 cents on the dollar and the lots he got are up on eBay at the moment at "aspirational" prices. An example being the Peugeot 204 Cabriolet hardtop he paid $50 plus auction fees of 15% for and has listed at $1000 on eBay right now. The stuff that Jeff Ray, Chad Hagen and I plus other fans bought will be used in our own cars or saved for other Club members or enthusiasts, and not marked up 20 times if resold. Since we are all Peugeot fans here, it's important that we all have a solid crack at some of Jim's treasures, as opposed to flippers and resellers. The way auctions go, sometimes there are good deals to be had on rare machinery, cutting the scalpers and other profit takers out of the picture. The next auction will happen in January and although the lots have not been prepared in the listing below yet, it's likely to include: Peugeot 403 Sedan Peugeot 403 Station Wagon Peugeot 403 Cabriolet Peugeot 204 Cabriolet Peugeot 404 Sedan Automatic Peugeot 404 Station Wagon Peugeot 404 Coupé Injection Peugeot 404 Cabriolet Injection Peugeot 205 GTI https://kraftauctions.hibid.com/auction/375897/46th-anniversary-antique-and-collectible-auction---weekend--2/?fbclid=IwAR3NR_8YdkLqN8zuOqxWDK9tW7cnx3Lzpfjui_8kHhlTzQy_dLjf8xWIs7c There is a thread on the Peugeot of North America Facebook page about this, if you're interested.
  14. Sunday I made up and installed the following brake lines with metric-nutted fittings (11 mm): firewall to front splitter front splitter to LF wheel front splitter to RF wheel rubber hose on torque tube to rear proportioning valve rear proportioning valve to LR wheel rear proportioning valve to RR wheel The only metal line not remade now is the long one that goes from front to rear, and so it's the only one with 3/8" fitting nuts. Just for symmetry and to have a coherent set of nuts I think I will do it too. Then check tightness and attempt a bleed.
  15. Our long-time Peugeot friend Jim Schlick of Bloomington IL passed away earlier this year and his estate had an auction of some of his car parts, the first bit of which ended today. A fellow I know through Facebook bid for me on three lots, which resulted in winning bids. Nothing massive, but still interesting for me. $20 for these SEV wiper blades for 404C and others, plus what looks like 405 wipers at the top: $15 for these two 404C driving light trim rings: $25 for 4 NOS 404C headlight rings: I mainly bid on this stuff because I thought it might be tossed if no-one bid on it, but the low price is a bonus. Chad will bring the stuff with him to Seattle in June next year and we'll go down there to meet him, buy him dinner and collect it. My 404C does not have the 1967-68 driving lights, so those will be for sale. I already have 4 NOS headlight rings so at least one of the two sets will be for sale. And a lot of those wipers will be sought after in Europe. May make a buck or five. Part two of the Jim Schlick auction will be happening sometime in the weeks or months to come, with the more collectible cars being for sale at the time: 404 Cabriolet, 404 Coupé Injection, 404 sedan, 404 wagon, 403 sedan, 204 Cabriolet, and much more. Curiously, the hard tops for the 204C and 404 Cabriolet were sold in the first auction, $50 each.
  16. Ordered an oil pressure sending unit for the Jaeger sports instrument panel - should arrive soon. It's a Spanish-made FAE unit - the original Jaegers being nearly impossible to find. This period accessory instrument panel will go into the car after it's on the road again and functioning well. The panel, as a refresher:
  17. I'm pretty confident that it'll be fine, and if it's not, I'll move to Plan B or C if required. That Cartier box sounds intriguing. Got a photo of one?
  18. A 1960s car has so many anachronisms that once you start, where do you stop? If you REALLY want to know, I do have an electronic points substitute for the stock distributor ready to use but I simply do not intend to use it until points become unavailable or for some reason, after 160K km of using points, condenser etc on a 404 DD with NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER, they suddenly become a problem. I have read that some of the cheap Chinese points and condensers that flood the market today crap out regularly, but the ones I have are made by Bougicord/Ducellier in France, just like the originals, and they typically had service lives of 30,000 km. One could also argue that the Kugelfischer injection is not optimal, so should be replaced by a Megasquirt, and so on and so on....4 drum brakes? Oh horror! No airbag, etc.....nah, it's an old car, let it be. It truly was a no brainer to buy new unions so let's leave it at that, shall we?
  19. I've never had trouble with 404 ignition systems over the ten years they were daily drivers. The distributor is new and a programmable curve for any e-replacement - probably made in China (eww) - would be a minimum requirement as any aftermarket 404 e-distributor I've heard of is preset for carbureted cars - totally different centrifugal and vacuum advance, not to mention different distributor body. I thought of the filing option on the fittings but that's super-crude to be fair, so I waited for the proper ones to come in.
  20. Well, it took seven and a half weeks to get the shipment from Der Franzose/CiPeRe.... Comparing the new fittings with extended noses I got for the front brake crossover lines with the short ones on the first set I made: Today I made up another set of the crossover lines with the new fittings. Note the bubble flares. Then installed them... I still will remake some other lines too as I damaged a lot of the fitting heads overtightening them with the incorrect metric tool back in 2019! On a related note, a search on "Luce Targa Carello" gave me a hit for this on eBay in Italy: It's a 404C license plate light, NOS, but was listed as being for a Fiat 238 van (which may well be). Anyway for 70 EUR plus 25 for postage to Canada, it's soon to be my spare. Sadly, the seller has no more. But the Fiat 238 tip could be useful.
  21. Canada did not get US spec engines in many/most Renault models. Canada prior to 2007 accepted EC certification for pollution control. I am not 100% sure about the R17G in respect of this, but I have a brochure from Canada in which it says the power is 108 HP.
  22. The exhaust is silly but the car does look good with the EC bumpers. USA/CDN 17Gs had 108 HP. My late friend Bruce had one with twin DCOEs on it, which probably had 130. When it didn't have fuel pump issues, as in this photo.....that's me standing up as Bruce diagnoses the issue.
  23. It's aerodynamics, not gearing, that will limit the top end. Don't rely on the speedometer!
