  1. No matter what, you've got a significant project there. I'd be saying the same thing if you were looking at a BMW from 1985. Realize it's much harder to bring a Peugeot back because of the parts shortage. Something that old and tired will require just about everything done to it sooner rather than later. If you're good with that, then go for it.
  2. Just what the title says. The head that I bought a few years ago as "good" turned out to be not so good. I just got a call from the machine shop saying that the crack went down through the valve area and is not repairable. I'll post pictures when I get it back, but in the meantime, I'd like to get another head and get my car back on the road. I need a N9T head. Excellent shape. Name your price.
  3. I'm selling this for the same friend here in Seattle. Call or email. Thanks! http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/3358229368.html
  4. From what I've heard, R12 is readily available. Although it's manufacture has been prohibited, stockpiles have been allowed to exist. So how does it get used? In pre-95 cars - which are becoming a very small percentage of all cars on the road. Actually, many automakers switched over to R134a in 93. Plus stocks have gone up since you can recover Freon from old systems legally. From junk cars or people who have had their systems retrofitted. As a result, prices have fallen and there is plenty of R12 to go around. But most people have been convinced that it's fruitless, way expensive and evil. If you just put 134 in your system it will leak out. Look for the black sticky dust around fittings (near junction at top center of firewall on the 505). All retrofitted cars will have this tell-tale problem. The molecule is smaller than the Freon molecule and seeps past seals on systems that were designed for the old gas. In addition the new gas is less efficient than Freon and is flammable. Modern society depends heavily on refrigeration. From food safety to comfort for frail people who can't handle the heat. If you decrease the efficiency of something 10% how many people will get food poisoning that otherwise wouldn't. There probably is a death toll associated with this. But as they say, you gotta crack a few eggs to make an omelette. We moved over because...... Mother Earth?...... Some more cynical people think that because the Patent ran out of Freon DuPont could go to the refrigerant well longer with the new gas/patent. Living in the omelette!

    New phones

So I finally broke down and went out and got a new cell phone. My contact was up in Jul and I was holding out for a good slider phone, but that wasn't to be. Sliders just arent being developed that much so I pulled the trigger on a Samsung Galaxy S 3. Nice and fast but getting used to swipe is a pita. Almost got a iPhone. Strangely the line of the most important features was 3rd party support.I bought the original smartphone, the G1 and had no support. Same with the G2.never had a cradle. Using out in the car was always unfun. This should bye different. What are you guys doing in today's phone space?
  7. This with your V6 car? I thought the turbo beeped when you opened the door with the lights on and car off. That's how it works on all 3 turbo I've owned.
  8. Would this work? http://compare.ebay.com/like/290700175741?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar
  9. What year and engine? STI to us usually means pre 86 XN6 car. Your switch is the child rear window lockout.
  10. Wow, did he meet with you or did you do this via e-mail? Nice article!
  11. Hey Bill, on those studs, I couldn't bring them up in the catalog. Is this a special order item or am I slow.
  12. Thanks for the price. I'm going to order those up today! I've heard finger tight. The only remaining question I have is lube or no lube. Have you test fitted these Bill? If you look closely, the stud bosses at the top of the head have oil holes for the top end. The studs are the same thickness as the stock bolts?
  13. Nick, could you install the studs after placing the head? I don't know if there's enough room to drop the head down over the studs. They're pretty long. What do you think?

    RockAuto Sucks

Yup, it's got a steel layer in it, but just the bare minimum. What can you expect for $2. If you go ahead and machine the mating surface on the exhaust manifold and head true, it'll probablyl work. I'd order like 50 at that price (I think $1.22).

    RockAuto Sucks

So, I order up a headgasket 'kit' (Part 1) from RockAuto because they say that it comes with valve stem seals. I also order an exhaust manifold gasket (Part 2) and radiator cap (Part 3). They all have the "euro" flag meaning that it's drop shipped from Europe. Read $$$ shipping. So what arrives? A HG kit for a FIAT 2.0L engine. Radiator cap doesn't fit. Exhaust manifold gasket IS a N9T item. Although way less robust than stock. First, they are unconvinced that the gasket set, even though it says FIAT doesn't fit my N9T engine. I have to explain the two companies never shared an engine platform, etc and that the gasket set does NOT fit a N9T engine. Cutting to the chase They admitted that the gasket and rad cap were wrong They told me to keep the wrong parts They will refund the "cost" there of wrong parts The $50 shipping is MY charge (WTF?) So I paid $50+ for a $2 gasket. They said that I should not have ordered a part from Europe if I wasn't prepared to pay shipping. I told them that their system converted a valid order into a stupid one and that I wanted to just return everything and get a full refund. Their answer was no. I think I'll call my bank and dispute the credit card charge. Yes, RockAuto is good but catalog errors are on you. I have picture and email for all of this.
  16. Damn Rabin, you gotta buckle down someday here and totally own one of these butt kicking ideas. I know you got like 1008 irons in the fire, but man. Ah, you're like me. A-D-D for cool things! (just messing with ya) I guess I really want to see a a-z how-to on this. I think I got the last turbo ABS discs sets in the world. I still haven't fitted them. But, I have been fitting a lot of 'priceless' oem parts. The way I see it, they're doing no good sitting on the shelf!
  17. You should call Heads Up @ 253-833-4546 and ask for JoAnne. She runs one of the most respected head shops in the Pacific Northwest.
  18. OK. The shop sent pictures:
  19. Once I get the head off and inspect things closely, I should be able to determine why it failed.
  20. Guess it's time for me to start documenting the head-rebuild that was part of my blown head gasket saga. Goals: Rebuild turbo - maybe with a few more zots Rebuild head change out head gasket R&R everything that gets removed Things are ugly. I had an oil analysis on this engine about six months ago and they said something about coolant in the oil. They couldn't say defininatively, but car ran great. Never overheated. One day after coming home, the low coolant light comes on. Odd, I've been watching that like a hawk since I swapped over to Toyota red coolant and changed the hoses. Fired it up and a lot of white smoke. Yep, headgasket. Do ya think?
  21. If I got some pictures of it could you guys identify it? I think they want to move it as it's been sitting on the shelf in their shop all wrapped up.
  22. Hey, I was dropping my turbo gas head off at my shop and they asked me if anyone was looking for a diesel head they had done for a well known independent Peugeot shop that stiffed them. These guys are very well known and do great work so the head is probably 100%. Is there any difference between the XD2S and XD3T heads? If so, how to distinguish between them? Or are there more than 2 kinds of diesel heads.
  23. Being so far away from their cars, I can't tell how their model line-up fares these days. Everybody who goes to Europe and rents one always raves about it, but they're still loosing marketshare in the one place they have left - Europe. I think they've got all their hopes pinned on emerging markets, but I don't trust China. Don't you have to have a 51/40 split their way with a local? Things are peachy now, but wait 'till China suffers challenges of their own. Ironically, they got their view of private property from Europeans. I don't see them coming back to NA. GM is not in a position to help. If they can't fix Opel, how can they fix PSA? Sadly, I think they're done. The French govt will probably force merge them with Renualt.
  24. Well, I prepped the garage for the headgasket job. Started tearing down my spare N9T. I have two Payen HGs. I'll be bying a Meillor and BGA for comparison.
  25. So I've been doing a little research. W-H has Meillor headgaskets RockAuto has BGA (British Gaskets Automotive) Corteco was sold to ROL Mfg by Friedenburg-NOK What are people's opinions about the above brands without regards to cost? Here's an awesome article by Larry Carley about headgaskets. http://mk3ukr-supra.net/What%20causes%20head%20gasket%20to%20fail.pdf
