  1. I'll let you know. But, after I bought it I started buying a ton of parts to get it roadworthy. $1000 later and I pick up the car next week. I'll probably have close to $3500 into it by then. It'll stilll be a 15 yard line car. Anytime you get a good car for under 5K is cheap.
  2. Good afternoon! I was tasked with selling a 405 Mi16 and I failed. I tried and tried, but there were no takers. I ended up buying the car. It should work out and it will be my daily driver. I'll give the BMW to my wife. Anyway, there are a couple of small parts I need. I also included two pictures of the car itself. Thanks if you know where I can get them. K o l l
  3. I came up with a contact in England who runs an aftermarket parts company. Evidently, dealers don't sell direct to consumers over there. I've got $750 worth of parts coming over this week for a timing belt job on my newly acquired 91 Mi16. I was able to get $250 worth of parts for the job from Rob @ Javel. Part of the high cost is I'm replacing every hose I can get along with the water pump, tensioners and other needed parts. I'll post a part list and picture later this week. K o l l
  4. I have one in Seattle. Runs and looks good. $2,200.

Fresh burr ground beans and a french press. Best coffee is as complicated as that!
  6. It does look to be a brilliant example, good luck with the sale.
  7. Just outta curiosity, why are you selling? Looks like you finally got It sorted out.
  8. There looks to be a fairly mint 86 turbo stick in Vancouver BC. http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/3672482936.html. If you can get it by the Cali econazis...

  10. It this is a good head, I can pay you for it. And I live in Seattle. I have 2 N9T cars with blown headgaskets and 1 mine done-up head. So I might need another cylinder head. But I'm in better shape that the guy who really needs it.
  11. Damn dude. 7 505s and you're not a professional wrecker? Hats off to you. That's nuts. That's awesome.
  12. And 80 lbs lubed is like 120 lbs dry or something like that. They should NOT have come undone.
  13. Well, if we forget it's a cursed Peugeot for a moment and just figure its like one of countless iron block/aluminum head engines ARP makes bolts and studs for. With that in mind, although the pitch is different than the block threads, That pitch is probably used on a number of other stock-application studs that they sell for Toyotas, Nissans, Porsches, etc. The studs were run down in an incremental fashion starting in the center and going outwards in a clockwise fashon? What did they torque them down to?
  14. Oh wow, i'm sorry to hear of this mess. Clearly, the studs were not torqued down with enough force. Studs, by their nature are better at clamping than bolts. The fact they were removed by a quick turn of a small ratchet tells me that there wasn't much if any torque left. You have to determine exactly how assembly went. what could cause this? Interference at the thread level. Were they dirt or otherwise compromised. What might seem like a reasonable torquing could have been something interfering with the threads Interference at the head gasket. Of course things were hospital like clean? Something interfering with at the headgasket level would cause a mis-torque. Sloppy assembly. You could chase your tail, but at the end of the day, the studs were not torqued down worth a piss. what gets me is that straight-away you saw bubbles. Meaning that they just weren't torqued down right initially. Damn. This sucks. Again, sorry to hear this. I wouldn't think it was the head. Your smoking gun is how easily the nuts came off. My suspicion. incorrect assembly. What's the plan going forward?
  15. The symptoms of my 89 BHG that stood out to me the most was what I can call now as a "highly pressurized cooling system". That is, the hoses were ROCK HARD and I'd crack the rad cap after 2 days of sitting and it would still hiss. Plugs didn't show any sign of BHG when I pulled them. I've got a digital boroscope. I'll get some cylinder pictures as I haven't pulled the head yet. Also, on mine, there was no real big event. It'd consume a pint a day. Go another day and not consume anything. Then another pint. One day it was milkshake city in the oil filling cap. Check that.
  16. Yeah, I'm gonna line up with Bill on this one. Sure, there are plenty of iron block/aluminum head combos where headgaskets fail. But this cracking head thing is the real killer. I've got two 505 turbos and they both have blown headgaskets. With the news that Politecnic has thrown in the towel, it's pretty bad. I will go Citroen as well. SM preferable, but I could live with a DS.
  17. Guess is all depends on definitions here. When they say "pressure tested" what does that mean? Did they pressure test the combustion chambers? Did they test the water jackets? These heads just suck. I'm almost ready for an engine swap if my new head doesn't work out.

    Been busy

Been bush lately. Nothing but work. The daily drive reached a milestone: Oh yeah, got Jamie's cylinder head back from the machine shop. Cleaned up, fitted with new OEM valves and camshaft. Other than this, I have little else I can do. If the HG lets go now, I don't know what I'll do. I will get ARP studs and heat treat the fire rings, etc.

  20. One option might be the toyota v8 they put in the LS400. 260hp, 4.0L. Smooth as glass. DOHC and pretty good on gas. LS400s get good MPG for a 3650 car. Seeing the 505 is 600 lbs lighter, this could be a decent swap.
  21. With that kind of engine, you're going to need all the ECUs - a whole donor car. It puts out 153 ft lbs of torque. Not much. It was designed for high revving with a 9000 redline and getting it's 240HP at 8300 RPM. As great of an engine it is, I wouldn't put it in a 505.
  22. Engine swaps have been considered, but no one in the US has done one. Someone in Malaysia or Thailand put a SR20DET into a 505. I guess if you have a favorite engine, that would be a personal choice. The only engine a truly love are the inline sixes from Toyota, but I don't love Toyota parts prices and it's too long for an easy fit. Other turbo engines have their flaws. V6s are just a crime against nature and v8 are somewhat out-of-step with the character of the car. An idea engine would be modern, not-especially rare, available in turbo form, North-South, found in cars you can find everyday. That's a tall order for me and eliminates most engines. Hondas (almost all FWD), 944 (too rare), Subaru - too funky. I've though of most engines and most are not right for the 505. I guess we'll have to think about these things 'cause in 10 years all the parts will be gone.
  23. I had an alternator rebuilt with aftermarket parts. The aftermarket brushes only lasted for 2 months before the were worn down and quit working. Funny thing was in had the unit rebuilt as a preventative measure.
