  1. Sorry a little late to this conversation. When my head let go many of the cracks also were originating from the water jackets. Leading me to believe that the technology is just a little too old or bleeding edge for the day to function properly 30 years forward. I truly admire you for trying to go bigger on HP. My car is finally coming together, but I'm really at a crossroads. Parts availability in general is killing my desire to keep the car. If the engine lets go, maybe a swap. These cars are like Jay Leno's strange orphan cars that can only survive and thrive with his resources. Like Anj's Porsche brake swap to deal with the unobtanium rotors, keeping some of the original Peugeot stuff is getting harder and harder. Especially if you're going to be breaking parts. And if you ain't breaking parts, you ain't trying hard enough to go faster. This kindda squirrels away from the original question you posed. I plan on using the current best practices for keeping my head alive as long as possible. I, unfortunately don't have anything else to offer.
  2. Rabin, You've done this, right? Could you confirm? Thanks!
  3. Have a call into Brian Holm for a set of fog lights. However, that might not happen. What would my options be? Are there any options that look close to period correct? Aren't ours rear-mount Bosch units? Share what you've done!
  4. Hi all, I'm going through my relay box making it new and now is the time to fuse that wire. Is this the one, right? Fan shouldn't draw any more than 10 amps, right? Thanks!
  5. Ah, this is going sideways on me. I replace the ignitor and coil with Wells/Airtex units. They are DOA. I fell for their videos on how they are so quality driven. It gets better, I got them from RockAuto. I'm not even going to waste my breath with them. I should have known. Old Bosch stuff just isn't for sale the the US. I can't find these parts. Anybody know something I don't here? I swear, this is the one thing that get me out of these cars. The damn parts situation.
  6. Title says it all. I want to replace the ignition control module in my 87 Turbo S (N9TE). I don't have confidence that the units I have are oem. I have the Peugeot number, but not the Bosch one and I can't find the Peugeot unit anyware. (surprise!) Found the Standard Motor LX621 and Airtex 6H1226 on RockAuto, but I'd rather buy a Genuine Bosch one if possible. Thanks,
  7. Hi all, Hope October is starting out well for everybody. Lining up jobs on the 87 505 turbo that need to be done. And this is a "maybe" job. The old shift knob disintegrated in my hand a few years ago and the car wasn't my daily driver so I waited in replacing it. Now, it's running much better and I want to get it 100% road worthy. I got a knob from Brian Holm but the shifter itself is a little discolored. I'd like to have it refinished before putting another knob on it as the knobs aren't really made to go on and off. Rabin, didn't you pull one insitu before? Thanks!

  9. Hey all, Long time no see. Actually, I've been lurking all this time. I figure if I don't have anything to contribute, why consume precious seconds. Anyway, this this site out: http://www.theparking-cars.com/used-cars/peugeot-505.html In The Netherlands and France mostly. 8-9K for a nice 505. Not too bad. My 505 is doing OK. Still have to do; sunroof cable (no parts), front wheel bearings (have all the parts) and get it running better (I think ignition) (bought distributor off Brian Holm). Really wanted to get it back this summer but have been très enterré.
  10. This is the problem. There are a handful of people who like Peugeots. Like them enough to own one and put up with the associated hassles. The truth is, most Peugeot owners are Peugeot owners because they couldn't afford a Citroen. Peugeot suffers from the "Renault syndrome". They will never be popular so they will never be worth much. No one saves them. It's been over two years since I've seen a Mi16 for sale. I think I saw a mint 505 turbo on Bring a Trailer and it sold for like 5K. We have the European equivalent of the "Hupmobile". I'd love to buy another mint Mi16, but I have one Peugeot and wife said that's enough. If I get rid of my 505 turbo, I'm getting a DS or SM. Don't get me wrong. I really like Peugeots and really like my car. But...
  11. Hey! This is great news Mike! How appropriate that a guy who really would appreciate this more than anyone would get this chance. Make sure you insure it properly when it's done and drive and enjoy it! Awesome!
  12. That sure sounds like a friction sound. Does the pitch raise with the RPMS?
  13. Ah, works normally at home on a Win10 box with Chrome 49.0.2623.110 The error occurred @ work with a Win7 machine.
  14. Site is broken. Puts up a popup window that doesn't allow a bypass. Browser is up-to-date.
  15. Name: Peugeot 505 Turbo S Category: North America Date Added: 2016-02-15 Submitter: N9TE Peugeot 505 Turbo S
  16. According to the Angelfire.com database: {I don't know who the owner of that site is, where he/she got their number, etc.} Google DOC 505 US Numbers Model Year From Model Database website 12% 1991 2223 267 1990 4292 515 1989 6095 731 1988 6713 806 1987 9422 1131 1986 14296 1716 1985 15636 1876 1984 20007 2401 1983 15241 1829 1982 16725 2007 1981 12930 1552 1979 10000 1200 Total 133,580 16,030 1989-92 also included 405 numbers. Perhaps you would halve that number to get 505s? Also, 1979 is a 'guess'. The data was no available. Using their numbers and your percentage (12%), we get 16,030. That seems pretty optimistic for a couple of reasons. The 505 was a first gen "modern" car, with fuel injection, and ECU and lots of wires. It's much easier to keep a 504 or earlier car running. Although there is a whole generation of car guys who grew up with nothing but FI & ECMS, this wasn't the case when 505s started reaching their save/crush moments (most likely in the 90s). When the tended to break the level of expertise required (back in the day) was pretty high and the value of these cars was low and prospects of the values rising still have yet to be realized. This means a lot of them met the crusher. The Peugeot name in Europe is regarded higher than in the US. By a lot. The pre-505 cars are viewed as "more collectible" and likely to be saved. How many 505s does Jim Schick have? What percentage of people in the 404 registry live in the US/CN? That might help us determine how many 505s are left in the US? Do we have a registry somewhere?
  17. I was thinking lately, how many examples are left of our cars? I'm thinking for turbos, we're talking less then 50 that are good. For all other 505s, maybe 150. 405s? Maybe 50 I base this nothing but a gut feeling. I use auto tempest all the time to search CL nationwide and for the last year, I may have seen 50 505s. Most were rolling scrap metal.
  18. tabarnak's post got me thinking. Post what you have, the condition and how much money you'd have to have to consider selling your Peugeot. I'll go first: 1987 505 Turbo S 5 speed, condition: very good, $10,000 (even then, maybe not)
  19. Where do you live? If you want a eruo-spec car and you live in the US it's not gonna happen. You'll have to go to Europe and try to convince one of the 12 owners left with decent examples to part with it. I bet there's less than 50 decent 505 turbos left in the US.
  20. Rabin is right on this. I would look Volvo. Parts are getting very hard to come by. It will only get worse. You (and everybody) should be prepared to shell out the money to professionally repair parts. A lot of places do wheels. I had a turbo done. Probably going to look into having a head welded. It's the new reality. I can't remember the last time I saw a ZDJL 2.2 car. These guys are getting seriously rare now. No matter what the trim.
  21. I replaced the tires on my Cressida. And everything attached to them. Picked up a E90 (2008 328i). (looks like above car) Man, these cars kick butt! I got a slushbox as traffic in Seattle-land is horrific. I've read up on the ZF units are they are generally considered good. The car is just soooo awesome. They're everything a 505 should have been had PSA kept in the game. Drives so well. Very refined. Hopefully I can take a number of ideas on what makes this car great and apply those principles to my remaining 505. Strange crap with new(er) cars. No dip stick TPS Start-Stop button You (almost certainly the dealer) have to "register" and "code" the a new battery to the car so it can have a charging profile Things they nailed with this car: Handling engine (brilliant N51 inline six makes me forget about Toyota sixes) HVAC (perfect) Seats (Peugeot quality - and heated) I've got to do a few things (new battery, couple of fobs, remove the go-fast tint). Nothing fancy like the go-directly-to-jail twin turbos (335I), "angle eyes" or other things. I'm a big fan of keeping things stock. So, no carbon fiber wraps, H&R springs, "cold air" bs, neon kit, neon yellow dipped 22" rims will ever touch this car. Hope others have equally rewarding things to report soon!
  22. Thanks André, I did see that. I'm doing this as a preventative measure, so I can take the time (I hope!) to find one crack-free. If that's still possible. I already have two heads with cracks. They crack pretty much everywhere.
